My Week in Review
Happy Sunday on this last day of May! Can you believe tomorrow is June? The year is flying.
I had a short work week - Monday holiday, Friday vacation day, and yet, I wasted so much time. I told people I do this. I really need to make lists to keep me on track. One of the things I wasted time on was the great Carousel of Progress debate. I love this attraction. It's one I went on every time I visited Walt Disney World (which is 75+ times). The proposed update makes me feel quite old. It will feature the 80s and 2000s, two eras I experienced first hand. Not sure how I feel, but I hope they don't mess this up. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

A small haul this week. Summerland Cove looked interesting, but I got the invite with less than a week before publication, so I won't be downloading the ARC. I will keep an eye out at my library for it though. I will definitely download Something About September since it was already on my TBR. Love the cover, and I feel it's a good fit for me.
Invites
- Something About September by Julia McKay
- The Devoted by Catherine Cho
- Summerland Cove by Ellen Baker
Read Last Week
This was a decent week. I suppose my disappointment lies in that I expected some of these books to wow me more. Sampson didn't let me down! I had a rollicking time reading Most Ardently Yours. It was a time-traveling (?) romance where the heroine manifests Mr. Darcy. Out of the book and into real life. It had all the fun fish-out-of-water stuff, but there was also a bit of twist which I really enjoyed.

I think you nearly read in one week what I read last month LOL
ReplyDeleteI try to stay on track there. I have a list, it helps.
DeleteI can't get anything done without a schedule by now LOL.
ReplyDelete"I love this attraction. It's one I went on every time I visited Walt Disney World (which is 75+ times)."
75+ times???!!!
The '80s are ancient history now (*sighs*), but the New Millennium??? Really???
The deer and the turtle are funny. Poor thing though, being surrounded like that - lucky for her to have an armour!
We lived in North Florida for almost 7 years and would use our resident passes to visit the parks almost once a month. It was a great perk of being a Florida resident. The deer's reaction - hilarious! I love animals.
DeleteI've been to Disneyland in California when I was a little kid but I don't remember much. I've never been to any of the other sites.
ReplyDeleteI was there once, and it made a big impression on me. I liked the smaller park.
DeleteYay for having days off! I never get everything I want to get done either and the hours slip by. What can you do? I'm looking forward to If Books Could Kill. Hope we both love it!
ReplyDeleteI started If Books Could Kill this morning. It goes right into the craziness. It's an interesting take on the living-the-story trope
DeleteThe Carousel of Progress was one of my favorite rides at Disney. I loved how nostalgic and out-of-date (lol) it was. We are going to Disney later this year and I'm sad that I won't get to experience it one more time!
ReplyDeleteRight! I enjoyed the look at life waaay back when. I am so sad it will be closed for you.
DeleteI'm feeling very mixed emotions about this update. On the one hand, it has become kind of a time capsule from Walt's era, and gives all the nostalgia I crave when I visit the parks. On the other, an update means they plan to keep it around for a while, which is a win in my book. I'm nervous about the quality, but I have a feeling they know how important it is to get this one right.
ReplyDeleteThe general consensus seems to be split. People feel it follows Walt's vision to update and show "progress", but they don't want Disney to shank it.
DeleteHow nice to have a short week. I think updating the attraction is a good idea. Some of the Disney attractions are very outdated, although I was sad when they ended It's a Small World. That instagram reel is wonderful. I loved the deer's reactions. A very small haul this week. I usually enjoy Freya Sampson, but this book wasn't on my radar, so thanks for that, Sam. I hope you are having a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhere did they end Small World? I had to google. Looks like it closed in Disneyland for a month to remove holiday decorations. You scared me, Carla. That's mine and my daughter's favorite. Most Ardently Yours was a bit different for Sampson, but I do feel she has been mixing it up a bit lately. I found it fun and amusing.
