Top Ten Tuesday: Something Paranormal This Way Comes

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Something Paranormal This Way Comes!

It's almost Halloween, and scary things are synonymous with this day. Well, we all know I lean towards the light and fluffy, and therefore, haven't really read many scary books, but I have read some  that feature some otherworldly creatures, and fall nicely into the paranormal genre.

Blog Tour: The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig - Don Zolidis

The Seven Torments of Amy and Craig
Don Zolidis
Series: n/a
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
Janesville, Wisconsin (cold in the sense that there is no God) 1994

The worst thing that's ever happened to Craig is also the best: Amy. Amy and Craig never should've gotten together. Craig is an awkward, Dungeons & Dragons-playing geek, and Amy is the beautiful, fiercely intelligent student-body president of their high school.

Yet somehow they did. Until Amy dumped him. Then got back together with him. Then dumped him again. Then got back together with him again. Over and over and over.

Unfolding during their senior year, Amy and Craig's exhilarating, tumultuous relationship is a kaleidoscope of joy, pain, and laughter as an uncertain future-and adult responsibility-loom on the horizon.

Craig fights for his dream of escaping Janesville and finding his place at a quirky college, while Amy's quest to uncover her true self sometimes involves being Craig's girlfriend?and sometimes doesn't.

Seven heartbreaks. Seven joys.Told nonsequentially, acclaimed playwright Don Zolidis's debut novel is a brutally funny, bittersweet taste of the utterly unique and utterly universal experience of first love.

Top Ten Tuesday: Villains I love & Villains I Hate

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Villains!

Every great story need conflict, and the conflict is often times provided via a villain. Many times, the villain is a character I despise in the story, but sometimes, I grow to love them. It could be because the author gave them a great redemption arc, but it could also be because they are just that fabulous.

Discussion: Retell it to Me

This Week’s Topic: Retell it to Me

My trip to Disney had me thinking about the characters, which had me thinking of the fairytales that inspired many of them, which had me thinking about retellings. Yes! What's old is new, and retellings never seem to go out of style.

How many have you seen?

Just like every generation has their version of A Star is Born, every generation is bound to have one, two, or ten different version of some classic story.

Top Ten Tuesday: In the Library!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

In the Library!

So, we are supposed to talk about libraries we love or want to visit, but I honestly don't have such a list, therefore, I am talking about books I enjoyed or want to read, which also happened to feature libraries or bookstores.

Discussion: Why I Read OwnVoices Books

This Week’s Topic: Why I Read OwnVoices Books
I had read a blog post earlier in the week discussing how many OwnVoices authors are attacked for the representation in their books, which by the way makes me nuts. You know, questioning someone about their personal experience as member of a particular group, but I am not here to discuss that. What it had me thinking about is why I read OwnVoices books.

Review: This is Kind of an Epic Love Story - Kheryn Callender

This is Kind of an Epic Love Story
Kheryn Callender
Series: n/a
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
A fresh, charming rom-com perfect for fans of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Boy Meets Boy about Nathan Bird, who has sworn off happy endings but is sorely tested when his former best friend, Ollie, moves back to town.

Nathan Bird doesn’t believe in happy endings.

Although he’s the ultimate film buff and an aspiring screenwriter, Nate’s seen the demise of too many relationships to believe that happy endings exist in real life.

Playing it safe to avoid a broken heart has been his MO ever since his father died and left his mom to unravel—but this strategy is not without fault. His best-friend-turned-girlfriend-turned-best-friend-again, Florence, is set on making sure Nate finds someone else. And in a twist that is rom-com-worthy, someone does come along: Oliver James Hernández, his childhood best friend.

After a painful mix-up when they were little, Nate finally has the chance to tell Ollie the truth about his feelings. But can Nate find the courage to pursue his own happily ever after?

Top Ten Tuesday: In It For the Long Haul

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

In it for the Long Haul!

This week we are talking about those long books we've read. In all honesty, the longest book I've read is the Bible, but I am going to stick to my fiction books for this list. I read primarily contemporaries these days, which don't tend to be super long, but I tag in for an SFF book every now and again, and those are the books that pretty much dominate this list.

Isn't It Romantic?: Real Love Double Review

I had the pleasure of reading two books in the Real Love series. Both were fauxmance-romances, but each turned, as the series title eludes, to real love.

Blog Tour: The Geography of Lost Things - Jessica Brody

The Geography of Lost Things
Jessica Brody
Series: n/a
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
In this romantic road trip story perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Morgan Matson, a teen girl discovers the value of ordinary objects while learning to forgive her absent father.

After Ali’s father passes away, he leaves his one and only prized possession—a 1968 Firebird convertible—to his daughter. But Ali doesn’t plan on keeping it. Not when it reminds her too much of all her father’s unfulfilled promises. So when she finds a buyer three hundred miles up the Pacific coast willing to pay enough money for the car to save her childhood home, Ali can’t wait to get going. Except Ali has no idea how to drive a stick shift. But guess who does?

Ali’s ex-boyfriend, Nico. And Nico has other plans.

He persuades Ali that instead of selling the car, they should “trade up” the items they collect on their trip to eventually reach the monetary amount Ali needs. Agreeing with Nico’s crazy plan, Ali sets off on a unique adventure that is unlike anything she ever could have expected.

And it’s through Ali’s travels, through the strangers she meets and the things that they value—and why they value them—that Ali eventually comes to understand her father and how his life may not have been as easy and carefree as she previously thought. Because just like the seemingly insignificant objects Ali collects, not everything is exactly as it appears.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Authors I would love to meet!

I have been able to attend some great book festivals, BookCon, and BookExpo at which I have met many authors, but there are quite a few of my "go-tos", who I have never met. Today, I share ten authors from my "to meet" wishlist and my favorite book by them.
