Can't-Wait Wednesday: Sightwitch - Susan Dennard

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I can't wait for Sightwitch by Susan Dennard!

Sightwitch
Susan Dennard
Series: The Witchlands, #0.5
Release Date: January 23 , 2018
Publisher: Tor Teen
Waited on by: Sam
From the New York Times bestselling author of Windwitch, an illustrated prequel novella set in the Witchlands setting up the forthcoming hotly anticipated Bloodwitch.

Set a year before Truthwitch, Sightwitch follows Ryber Fortiza, the last Sightwitch Sister as she treks deep underground to rescue her missing best friend. While there, she encounters a young Nubrevnan named Kullen Ikray, who has no memory of who he is or how he wound up inside the mountain. As the two journey ever deeper in search of answers, and as they brave one close call after another, a tentative friendship forms between them—one that might one day grow into something more.

Sightwitch is told through Ryber’s journal entries and her sketches, as well as through supplementary materials (such as other journals, pieces of songs, clippings from history books, flashbacks, etc.). Though meant as a companion novella, this story serves as a set up to Bloodwitch as well as an expansion of the world.
I am actually NOT a huge fan of novellas. I don't know why, but they always leave me a little wanting. HOWEVER, when I saw this one, I was pretty excited. The book features Ryber, who anyone acquainted with the series knows is a truly awesome character. I have always wanted to know more about her, and had a lot of questions regarding her. This may be my opportunity to get some answers. The other thing that really drew me to this book was the promise of a mixed format. I just talked about how much I love alternate format books the other day, and when I saw that this will be told through journal entries, songs, excerpts from historical texts, and art, I was even more excited.

What are you waiting on?

  2. I just entered a giveaway for one of the books in this series this morning. It's on my list of series that I really want to start soon. I like the idea of this book being told in an alternate format too. Great pick!

    1. The first book was incredible. I loved the female friendship. The second book was good, but not as good, because the girls were separated for most of the book. I am excited about the next books, because the bloodwitch is such an interesting character and I think the girls will be on page more together

  3. I really love the first book of this series, but never got around to picking up book 2 because it feels like we're going to have to wait a long time for book 3 to be out. This cover for the novella is so pretty though! Tor is doing great!

    1. The second book was not as good because Safiya and Iseult are separated for most if the book, BUT we get to know Aeduan better and I am totally shipping him and Iseult

  4. Sounds like they've added what they could to make sure people have to buy a physical copy of this rather than an ebook. I will add it to my collection of the other two eventually but am probably not in a hurry because I haven't read the first two yet!

    1. The ebooks usually have the graphics, but it is usually such a chore to read them. The first book is so good. You should try to fit it in.

  6. Excellent choice. I agree the hardest part about novella's is the wanting more.

    1. I am not shocked I am not usually satisfied with novellas, as I usually want another epilogue and what not with a full length. =P

  7. Ooh nice! I can't wait to read this one either! Though I am devastated that it means Aeudan's book is delayed! Hoping I spelled his name right. My cold is making my brain not function in the proper booklover capacity! LOL!

    1. The female friendship in this series is one of my favorites. I was sad they were apart for so much of the second book, but all the characters are really strong, the magic is cool, and it's action packed.

    1. The real draw for me is the format. I am a sucker for a mixed format book, and very interesting things emerged about this character in book 2, so I am eager to learn more.
