Off Topic: You Compare it with a Hallmark Movie Like That's a Bad Thing

Off Topic is WLABBs post for discussing non-bookish things. This week, I am talking about

If there is one thing I look forward to, it's Saturday nights, because that is when the new Hallmark movies air. I will, without shame, aver my love for these movies. Yes, they may be a little cheesy and predictable, but I cannot help by enjoy every second of them.

Why I enjoy Hallmark movies:

  1. These movies are fun and lighthearted. Sometimes, the world can be scary and cold, but these movies always warm my heart and leave a smile on my face.
  2. I am a lover and love and will never turn away from a sweet romance. I don't think I have every seen a non-romantic Hallmark movie, and therefore, I know no matter what movie is on, it will appeal to the romance lover in me.
  3. These movies are good, clean fun, dare I say, wholesome, and sometimes you want to revert to that kinder, gentler kind of entertainment. As a bonus, they can be enjoyed by the whole family.
  4. I NEED an HEA, and these movies always end happily ever after. I dare to dream that some things can end with joy and happiness, and it's movies like these that help me hold on to that hope.
  5. They do these seasonal themes, and it's always fun to find the common thread through the group of films.
  6. I sort of love that they pull from the same pool of actors for these movies. I like seeing a familiar face. It's like coming home.
  7. When things are tough, I just want something that I can depend on, and I can pretty much tell you where each movie is going early on, and I love it. It is very comforting to know how things will turn out at times.
  8. There are always people committing acts of kindness in these movies. I need to be reminded of stuff like that, because as I said before, the world can be a cold, scary place. This helps me keep my faith in humanity.
  9. Each movie ends with a kiss. If you don't believe me, watch a few.
  10. My favorite time of year is approaching too: Countdown to Christmas! An HEA with holiday magic? What more could I ask for!

Now it's your turn!

  1. My husband likes to watch the Hallmark Christmas movies - the cheesier, the better! I don't even know why, as soon as December rolls around, he's all into it! It is nice that they are generally feel-good, happy-endings movies, though.

  2. I haven't watched a Hallmark movie in so long! I do love them though, especially the Christmas ones! I always see the commercials and then forget to DVr them to watch. Perhaps this year I will make a better effort to remember. :)

    1. My DVR has a standing date with the Hallmark channel, and then I watch them on Sunday. It gives me a little lift before I start a new week.

  3. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Hallmark movie. Actually, I'm not even sure I get the Hallmark channel (I'm assuming these are aired on the Hallmark channel?). I'm not a TV watcher so I'm out of the loop. Maybe I'll check and see if I even get the channel and try one out sometime. I can always use some light-hearted entertainment with a guaranteed HEA. :)

    1. Tanya, this is shocking! 😊 There are two Hallmark channels (one shows mysteries). I don't watch a ton of TV, but I look forward to my Saturday night movie every week. If you are going to give it one chance, wait for the Christmas movies at the end of the month.

  4. My mom LOVES Hallmark films. My dad does too actually, which I find adorable. They'll happily watch them together. My most favorite movies are the Christmas one, so I can't wait for all of those!

    1. I think as I get older, I become more of an escapist. I don't want raw and real, for the most part, I want happy and fluffy. I want to be taken away to a happy place for just a little while, and these movies do that for me. And we have the Christmas movies to look forward to at the end of the month. 😊

  5. I really like Hallmark movies! I can't say I love them, but they are always there! My family and I always watch a specific Hallmark movie around Christmastime - Holiday in Handcuffs! I don't know if you are familiar but it is just so fun to revisit every year. My mom is a huge fan of Lifetime movies, and I also love seeing the same group of actors! It's fun being able to recognize them from other Lifetime movies! :D

    1. I have seen Holiday in Handcuffs. It's quite fun, like most of them are, which is why I have this solid relationship with the Hallmark Channel. I will never forget my daughter telling me how health teachers should be grateful for Lifetime movies, since that is all they showed during her four years of high school.

  6. My mom recorded a whole bunch of holiday Hallmark movies last year, and I ended up watching some of them with her. Not my usual style, but some of them were fun. :)

    1. So me and your mom could be friends. 😀 I sort of think they appeal to a little older audience. I have noticed, as I get older, I want more happy and less sad. These fit that bill.
