Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great week. I was happy that dad was able to come home from the hospital. He responded well the treatment and is feeling much better. Very grateful. My Monday was the Monday-ist. There are three people who do my job with one back-up. Everyone called out on Monday except me. I would have been fine on my own, but I still had to finish up the report from the week before because it requires manager review. Then, I got this email that we were getting new laptops, and what day do I have to be in office to get mine???? Friday! It's the one day I avoid the office if I can get my three days in without it. The afternoon train is so full of day-riders and they are the worst! I am very tired on Fridays too. Not looking forward to it at all.

I got a haircut this week, and then finally got to go shopping for shoes. I bought two new pairs of Birkenstocks because they are the only shoes that don't aggravate my nerve issue. They are so expensive, so I feel like I spent a ton of money, but I know I will wear them for the next two years. I have to relax.

We had great weather until yesterday. We went from 40s in the morning to 80s. I know some people like this, but I don't. The humidity was in the 90s and we had full sun too, so it felt hotter.  The weather app on my phone is toying with my emotions. It must have some sort of glitch because sometimes, it will show the day twice with two very different temperatures. For example, Tuesday is showing 98 and 84. I really need to check it out somewhere, but it is normally reliable. This new laptop better be amazing.

Stacking the Shelves

I am really showing a lack of control with the free books. I blame Book Bub because they send me an email everyday with sales and freebies. Romance books are my weakness, they are my comfort. I could not resist. Now, I just have to commit to reading them.

I also received a few invites. I am eyeing Full Throttle and The Valencia Expat's Club. Both of those seem like good fits for me.

Read Last Week

I sort of loved everything I read this week. My top read was no surprise as it was Kristy Woodson Harvey's newest release. I love her books, and this one was a return to a world from a previous book. You didn't have to read the other book, but it was a treat for those of us who had.

Sarah Dessen's latest was very welcomed by me. This is the type of young adult books I fell in love with. Summer People also had a strong showing. I will admit I was frustrated with the heroine at times, but there was a rational for the choices she made. I just thought the people who loved her should have wanted her to seek her own happiness given her personal history, but the ending was fantastic and definitely made a difference in my overall feeling about the book.

  1. I hope your Friday commute will still go smoothly Sam! Also shoes and jackets are the clothes I spend the most on as I walk about 8 km every day in all kind of weather!

    1. I mean, shoes are important in general, and I do not cut corners on my shoes especially with all my foot issues.

  2. Yay for dad coming home!

"There are three people who do my job with one back-up. Everyone called out on Monday except me."
Can they do that and leave the remaining team member alone? It doesn't feel right. And I don't get why you have to be handled your new laptop on a certain day.

Don't feel guilty about the shoes. It was for a good cause...not out of vanity or the urge to follow a trend.

    1. If people call out, they call out. Stuff happens. It bothers me more when we are left short because they approve too many people for vacation. That's preventable. It was a bit stressful but not too bad. At least I was working from home, so I could put in a little extra time without worrying about missing the train.

  3. Oh I would be so mad if I had to come in on a Friday when I typically don't! What a pain! Like they couldn't give you the computer on a Wednesday or something!? I can pretty much only wear Tom's shoes so I understand sticking to one brand. I'm too old to wear uncomfortable shoes!

    1. I am very salty. They are distributing laptops on a schedule and people will be onsite to help with setup. My thing is that we have a place onsite that is like the Apple store where people are waiting to help you with tech issues. I will pout about this for sure. I used to wear Tom's all the times. I have so many pairs! But after the surgery, everything hurt.

  4. So happy to hear your dad responded well to treatment and was able to come home! Friday were horrible for commutes for me, too. Sorry you have to go in. Yes, that laptop better be amazing. I have Our Perfect Storm, too. Not sure I'll be able to get to it this week, though.

    1. I am so fully absorbed in Our Perfect Storm. I forget how much I adore Fortune's books. This one has me all up in my feels.

  5. I missed the news about your dad, but I'm glad he's doing better! We are doing some sort of computer upgrade at work and I'm already scared. I work remotely, so I can only imagine the issues I'm going to have. This weather is terrible! I can't stand this heat!

    1. I am working from home the hottest day (Wed) because the trains always have issues when there is "weather". Upgrades are annoying. I haven't had any problems recently and at least I can go to the tech cafe if I need help.

  6. I'm so glad your dad was able to come home. I wouldn't feel bad about the shoes, you got shoes that are comfortable for you. At least you found shoes that don't irritate your nerve issue.

    1. I was doing the math, my shoes last about two years. I more or less wear them almost every day. You are right, no guilt.

  7. It's nice that your dad is home and that he is responding to treatment. Of all days to have to go in, I hope your Friday commute goes well. I am only 8 weeks out to get Our Perfect Storm. I understand how easy it is to grab those freebies, Sam.

    1. Carla, Fortune outdid herself selling me on Canada in this one. I would love to visit Tofino some day.
