Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday and hello, February! Do we really still have two months of winter left? They were actually still clearing the snow by me on Friday. It's everywhere! The trains stopped running last Sunday at 2 pm and started up again Monday night on an abbreviated schedule. I was happy the train was about on time Tuesday, but it was packed! I like my less full train. Wednesday I drove. My manager let me flex 1 hour, so I left work at 2:30 pm, but that didn't make any difference with the traffic. That drive home is a bear. But the best part was that I did not have to go into the office a third day. The campus was closed Monday, so they didn't count it against us.

Sorry to hear another storm is heading for the Carolina's, but I have glad to hear it was not coming my way. These disruptions to my routine and schedule are really putting me off.

Yesterday, I was food shopping and realized when I was doing self-checkout that I forgot my wallet. I thought, I would just activate my Google Wallet, but I apparently did not remember my CVV. I called home, and it took both my parents to find the card in my wallet and give me the code. At one point, my father told me he was old, what did I want from him. When I got off the phone, one of the workers asked me if I was having a rough morning. The whole call with them was pure comedy.

My daughter's birthday is this week. I have grown accustomed to NOT celebrating with her, but I always wish I could. She is supposed to come visit this month. We have tickets to a play, so I am crossing my fingers and toes that the weather gods are kind to me, and she has not delays or whatnot to deal with.

Stacking the Shelves

I was excited to see the Harvey book on sale. I read the other three books in the series from my library, but this did not have the last one. Now, I just need to fit this into my TBR soon. I saw the new Shalvis up on Edelweiss, so I downloaded it. I have been loving the Colburn Brothers series and am still holding out hope that Shalvis will give us a book 4 for their sister. Her husband had died unexpectedly, and she was raising their twins on her own. She has slowly been healing, and I would LOVE to see her get an HEA.

Read Last Week

No stinkers this week. I did a last minute swap to read another book by Michiko Aoyama when I saw it available at the library. I used to have a backlog of ARC reviews to pick from, but since I am reading one less book a week, I am pretty much posting within a week. I decided to pair Aoyama's books together.

Hot Chocolate on Thursday was the warm and cozy book I hoped it would be, and Adams did not disappoint with the final When in Rome book. I am sad it's over, but I am excited to see what new world Adams will create for us.

  1. I must have missed something but are your parents staying with you now as you speak about them finding your wallet?

  2. That's funny about your parents. Happy birthday to your daughter. My grandson turned 13 yesterday.

  3. I hope we both love Once and Again! I will also keep my fingers crossed that your daughter is able to make her visit with no hiccups. Honestly, I can relate to you trying to get your parents to find something. I have to walk my mother how to turn her video on during a WhatsApp call every single time. How to Find Romance in a Bookshop and Untamed Heart look amazing!

    1. You have great patience. I made my daughter explain WhatsApp to my mother before her trip to the UK. I am still thinking about downloading those books. Morr is new to me, but I have read all Alexander's books. I liked them all.

  4. The weather doesn't sound fun where you live! Love Taz the Llama! So cute. I hate that when I forget my wallet! I've used Apple Pay with my phone when I did that and it worked well. At least it was some entertainment for your co-workers, haha!

    1. Ilamas are great. Taz is special for sure. Not my co-workers. I was the supermarket. Entertainment for a stranger.

  5. Ugh, there is still so much snow everywhere! I hope we don't get any more any time soon.

    1. Hey, it was above freezing today. A few more like this and some of the white stuff may melt.

  6. Omggg I LOVE Taz! I am also very, very sick of the cold and the snow. I really hope your daughter is able to come, that has to be so hard ♥♥ Glad you had a good reading week, too!

  8. I try and use the "I'm Old" excuse all the time, but my kids tell me I'm not, so what can you do. I miss not celebrating birthday's with my daughter anymore. It's been 3 years now with her living over 2000 km. away. The snow at home has been brutal which of course wreaks havoc, I'm so glad to be in Cancun. It is tough to commute in that kind of weather, I'm sure. I am going to start the When in Rome series soon. I've seen so many good reviews. I hope this week has been a good one for you, Sam.

    1. I have not spent a birthday with my daughter since she turned 18. She went away to college, grad school, and then moved to the midwest. Travel in the winter is iffy. I loved the Rome series. As for that matter, I have enjoyed all of Adams' books. I hope you like them.
