Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Chain of Gold
Cassandra Clare
Series: The Last Hours, #1
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Release Date: March 3, 2020
Goodreads
Chain of Gold is the first novel in a new trilogy that stars the Shadowhunters of Edwardian London.

Welcome to Edwardian London, a time of electric lights and long shadows, the celebration of artistic beauty and the wild pursuit of pleasure, with demons waiting in the dark. For years there has been peace in the Shadowhunter world. James and Lucie Herondale, children of the famous Will and Tessa, have grown up in an idyll with their loving friends and family, listening to stories of good defeating evil and love conquering all. But everything changes when the Blackthorn and Carstairs families come to London…and so does a remorseless and inescapable plague.

James Herondale longs for a great love, and thinks he has found it in the beautiful, mysterious Grace Blackthorn. Cordelia Carstairs is desperate to become a hero, save her family from ruin, and keep her secret love for James hidden. When disaster strikes the Shadowhunters, James, Cordelia and their friends are plunged into a wild adventure which will reveal dark and incredible powers, and the true cruel price of being a hero…and falling in love.
Why I want to read this book

First, let's just look at the cover. *sigh* So, beautiful! Regardless of your feelings for this author or her books, you have to admit, her covers are exquisite. Now, why I want to read this book. The Infernal Devices remains my favorite of her Shadowhunters books, and I am beyond excited that we get to catch up with Will and Tessa's children. The time period, the family history, gaining more insight on the backstories of other families -- this all excites me! I also love this world, so I will always want to read new Shadowhunter books.

A Little Wanting Song
Cath Crowley
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Knopf
Release Date: June 8, 2010
Goodreads
A summer of friendship, romance, and songs in major chords. . .

CHARLIE DUSKIN loves music, and she knows she's good at it. But she only sings when she's alone, on the moonlit porch or in the back room at Old Gus's Secondhand Record and CD Store. Charlie's mom and grandmother have both died, and this summer she's visiting her grandpa in the country, surrounded by ghosts and grieving family, and serving burgers to the local kids at the milk bar. She's got her iPod, her guitar, and all her recording equipment, but she wants more: A friend. A dad who notices her. The chance to show Dave Robbie that she's not entirely unspectacular.

ROSE BUTLER lives next door to Charlie's grandfather and spends her days watching cars pass on the freeway and hanging out with her troublemaker boyfriend. She loves Luke but can't wait to leave their small country town. And she's figured out a way: she's won a scholarship to a science school in the city, and now she has to convince her parents to let her go. This is where Charlie comes in. Charlie, who lives in the city, and whom Rose has ignored for years. Charlie, who just might be Rose's ticket out.

Told in alternating voices and filled with music, friendship, and romance, Charlie and Rose's "little wanting song" is about the kind of longing that begins as a heavy ache but ultimately makes us feel hopeful and wonderfully alive.
Why I want to read this book

After reading Words in Deep Blue, I became obsessed with reading Crowley's backlist. It's an utter disappointment, that all her books are not available in the US, but I go straight to Amazon, and one-click the ones I could. Let me tell you, Words was not a fluke, because I also found Graffiti Moon incredible. A Little Wanting Song has music, romance, a STEM girl, and friendship -- all elements I tend to adore, and I trust that Crowley would have assembled them is some spectacular way.

What are you waiting on?
Any backlog books you want to read soon?

    1. Clare always has beautiful covers. I have grown to expect something epic every time. CWW is fun for me, but I also see it as my way to put a wish for a book out into the universe, and Carole's backlog meme has given me the push I needed to commit to my shelf books.

    1. I think you can read each series separately. I read the series out of order, but I think reading TID before this series would be a good idea.
