Can't-Wait Wednesday: Little White Lies - Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I can't wait for Little White Lies!

Little White Lies
Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Series: n/a
Release Date
Publisher: Freeform
Waited on by: Sam
"I'm not saying this is Sawyer's fault," the prim and proper one said delicately. "But."

Eighteen-year-old auto mechanic Sawyer Taft did not expect her estranged grandmother to show up at her apartment door and offer her a six-figure contract to participate in debutante season. And she definitely never imagined she would accept. But when she realizes that immersing herself in her grandmother's "society" might mean discovering the answer to the biggest mystery of her life-her father's identity-she signs on the dotted line and braces herself for a year of makeovers, big dresses, bigger egos, and a whole lot of bless your heart. The one thing she doesn't expect to find is friendship, but as she's drawn into a group of debutantes with scandalous, dangerous secrets of their own, Sawyer quickly discovers that her family isn't the only mainstay of high society with skeletons in their closet. There are people in her grandmother's glittering world who are not what they appear, and no one wants Sawyer poking her nose into the past. As she navigates the twisted relationships between her new friends and their powerful parents, Sawyer's search for the truth about her own origins is just the beginning.

Set in the world of debutante balls, grand estates and rolling green hills, Little White Lies combines a charming setting, a classic fish-out-of-water story, and the sort of layered mystery only author Jennifer Lynn Barnes can pull off.
I have been interested in started Barnes much lauded The Naturals series, but we all know I have commitment issues. When I saw she was writing a standalone, I knew I had to learn more about it, and what I found out totally delighted me.

Why I want to read this book
  • A female auto mechanic
  • Debutante season
  • A mystery father
  • Socialites and secrets
  • Family and friendship
Every line of that blurb contained another reason for me to read this book, and who doesn't enjoy the season?

    1. People rave about The Naturals and it is a goal of mine to start it in the 2nd half of the year, since new releases slow a lot by then.

  10. I'm so excited for this one too! I haven't read her Naturals series (I'll have to add it to my TBR pile!) but I've read and loved Every Other Day and Raised by Wolves. Regardless of all that, though, I'd read this based on the socialites and debutante aspects alone. Hope you enjoy it! :)

    1. Socialites and Debs are always fun. Their way of life is so outside my own, and I just find it fascinating.

  12. I love that the MC is an auto mechanic! I don't see that often :) wow a six-figure contract?? that's hard to turn down even if you are not into to makeovers and big dresses and all that comes with debutante balls! Definitely would be a fish-out-of-water experience for me! LOL Sounds fun!

    1. Oddly enough, the female MC in Love & Luck, though not an official mechanic, was also gifted at fixing cars.

  21. I have to say, as soon as I realised there was a female mechanic I was intrigued. I think I like characters with mechanical skills in total, but then it being a female character on top of things is always great!

    1. I was surprised to see another book featuring a female mechanic, because I just read of one in Love & Luck, and I thinks it is fantastic.

  22. I loved the Naturals series so as soon as I saw you post this and spotted the authors name I was like 'sign me up'. I didn't know she was a doing a standalone and although this sounds like it's a little different from her series I am still expecting to totally love it. She writes very good characters, they're flawed and interesting so I've got high hopes I'll be loving all these debutantes.
