Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Deadly Little Scandals
Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Series: Debutantes, #2
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Mystery
Publisher: Freeform
Release Date: November 5, 2019
Goodreads
"Think of the White Gloves like the Junior League-by way of Skull and Bones?"

Reluctant debutante Sawyer Taft joined Southern high society for one reason and one reason alone: to identify and locate her biological father. But the answers Sawyer found during her debutante year only left her with more questions and one potentially life-ruining secret. When her cousin Lily ropes her into pledging a mysterious, elite, and all-female secret society called the White Gloves, Sawyer soon discovers that someone in the group's ranks may have the answers she's looking for. Things are looking up... until Sawyer and the White Gloves make a disturbing discover near the family's summer home--and uncover a twisted secret, decades in the making.

No one is quite who they seem to be.
Why I want to read this book

I really enjoyed Little White Lies, and am looking forward to catching up with Sawyer, Grandma Lily, and the other debs. I can't wait to see what the girls get mixed up in next, and await even more surprises from them. Oh, and we still need to get some more closure there. The ending of book one really left me hanging.

Always Never Yours
Emily Wibberley, Austin Siegemund-Broka
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Penguin Books
Release Date: May 22, 2018
Goodreads
Shouldn't a girl get to star in her own love story?

Seventeen-year-old Megan Harper is about due for her next sweeping romance. It's inevitable—each of her relationships starts with the perfect guy and ends with him falling in love . . . with someone else. But instead of feeling sorry for herself, Megan focuses on pursuing her next fling, directing theater, and fulfilling her dream college's acting requirement in the smallest role possible.

So when she’s cast as Juliet (yes, that Juliet) in her high school’s production, it’s a complete nightmare. Megan’s not an actress, and she’s used to being upstaged—both in and out of the theater. In fact, with her mom off in Texas and her dad remarried and on to baby #2 with his new wife, Megan worries that, just like her exes, her family is moving on without her.

Then she meets Owen Okita, an aspiring playwright inspired by Rosaline from Shakespeare's R+J. A character who, like Megan, knows a thing or two about short-lived relationships. Megan agrees to help Owen with his play in exchange for help catching the eye of a sexy stagehand/potential new boyfriend. Yet Megan finds herself growing closer to Owen, and wonders if he could be the Romeo she never expected.

In their fresh and funny debut, Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegemund-Broka break down the high school drama to find there's always room for familial love, romantic love, and—most importantly—self-love.
Why I want to read this book

This is YET another book, which I believe was a CWW pick, but this pub has no love for me, so obviously, I didn't get an ARC. However, I jumped on the opportunity to read the second book from this duo, If I'm Being Honest, and I LOVED it SO much, I went to Amazon and paid full price for this book. I know, it's shocking, but it happened. That is how much faith I have in this book. Fingers crossed, this is another 5-star read for me.

What are you waiting on?

  3. I kind of want to read the first one since I got to read and review the first book in that series. But since I no longer have a contact at Disney, I doubt I'll get a review copy of it, so probably won't get it read. Great picks!

    1. I like the second cover for DLS. I love that it features the debs on it, and am happy the publisher jumped on the illustrated cover train with that. My library always gets Disney titles, that's why I don't cry as much every time they reject my ARC requests.

    1. Loose ties to the previous book. The characters from this book and If I'm Being Honest intersect towards the end of the IIBH. They are very much standalones, and exactly what I look for in contemporaries.
