My Week in Review
Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is doing well and surviving the weather.
I love when my daughter comes to visit, but I usually have to spend time catching up after she is gone. I was racing to finish my book last night and got so caught up in my book this morning sitting on the patio with the weather so nice that my post is late, but at least it's still Sunday, right?
Last Sunday, my daughter and I sent to the city to see The Lost Boys. Every Tony they won was well earned. As a fan of the original movie, I think they did a magnificent job adapting it for the stage. I always love seeing shows with my daughter because it's where they BFA she earned comes into play. She give some interesting commentary and often has me looking at things in a different way.
It's not summer without some poor air quality due to Canadian wildfires. I swear it was exactly this time last year that we had the same issue. I was sitting outside Wednesday evening when the wind picked up before the storm blew in, and right after the rain stopped, you could smell the smoke. By Thursday morning, everything was hazy. We were in the "unhealthy" zone, but out west, where my daughter is, they were in the hazardous area. I am enjoying a beautiful day today though. Glad it moved out quickly.

Stacking the Shelves
I picked up some great books this week. Very excited to be approved for the new Jennifer E. Smith. I am fan of her adult and young adult work, and this one sounds great. My daughter wanted to get Cursed City and thought I would be approved faster (I was). I always love when she contributes to the blog, so keep an eye out for that review. A Fall to Remember caught my eye, so I downloaded it, and I wanted to earn my camp badge and downloaded The Christmas Yes List since it was already on my TBR.
There were a bunch of fun looking freebies out there, and I got some invites too. I do usually read Macomber's holiday books, and You're the One That I Haunt looks good to me as well.

Read Last Week
My week started off amazing with five-stars for The Burning Side. This book had me in my feels, and Damoff did an incredible job capturing and conveying the emotional of everyone involved. I also loved Chase Me If You Can. It was a great rivals-to-lovers story elevated by all the storm chasing. That aspect of the story really grabbed me. As expected, Tarah DeWitt's upcoming release was wonderful. She never disappoints.

I am LOVING all the Jimothy love!! I'm glad you enjoyed your time with your daughter, but I know how you feel about having visitors. It always feels like I have a million things to do that I put off! We got the wildfire smoke ass well. Most of Ohio was in the hazardous zone, but Cincinnati was only in the unhealthy zone so we got lucky. Its a bit worse today though. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt had been a while since we had a new internet animal to cheer for. Loving it! My daughter is in Chicago - it seems the midwest got hit pretty bad which makes sense based on where the fires are. You were lucky. In NJ, the unhealthy was down the center of the state and in the neck (where I live). I hope the winds come and move some of it out for your soon.

DeleteI have been seeing that racoon everywhere. I love it. The Original Lost Boys movie was so good. Glad that what you saw was good too.

DeleteI didn't think the wildfire smoke was as bad as last year, but it was definitely prevalent. Henry's daycare wouldn't allow the kids to go outside, so I'm sure they were bummed to miss their water play!

DeleteI had to look BFA up. I love how your daughter gets to teach you things or make things for you because she's pursued a different education and interests. I hope all those nasty fires aren't threatening you anymore!
ReplyDeleteLike me, my daughter was great at math (using that more now in data science), but she is very creative (way, way more than me. Like way, way more) I am awed by how good she is at so many things. I hope for everyone (especially the Canadians) that the fires get under control.
DeleteIt makes me so sad when forests burn Sam. Trees are important to maintain a tolerable climate and it seems we destroy more and more of them.
ReplyDeleteIt's natural for the earth to burn a bit, for renewal, but places that get these wildfires need to do more control burns or something to prep. I don't know.
DeleteI was in Montana and we had a little bit of the haze from those Canadian fires the day before we left. We would've had more I think, but we had a lot of rain storms. Sounds like a nice visit! The Lost Boys as in the vampire movie? I loved that movie! I also loved Chase Me If You Can! The whole chasing storms thing was fun and I picked it up mainly because I loved the Twister movies and it gave me a similar vibe. I'm enjoying the new kind of "adventure romance" that's becoming more popular.

DeleteSo funny, a friend of mine just told me about Jimothy today, then I saw this post. I will have to check out more posts about him. I also got the Ellie Alexander and Melissa Ferguson books. I will also be watching for Debbie Macomber's book, I love them. So glad you had a lovely time with your daughter and saw a great production. The smoke was really bad here in Southern Ontario for about 4 days, but is okay now. Have a great end of July, Sam.
