Top Ten Tuesday - From the Page to the Screen

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

From the Page to the Screen!

Happy Tuesday! I had no muse this week, so I mined an old topic. Today, I will be talking about books I loved that were adapted to the big or small screen. It's doesn't mean I saw the adaptation, but I did read the book and denoted the adaptations I saw with an asterisk (*).

  1. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
  2. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn *
  3. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan *
  4. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett *
  5. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green *
  1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
  2. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkings
  3. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery *
  4. It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
  5. Lord of the Flies by William Golding *

Any fave book adaptations?

  1. It's hilarious that I've read almost all of the books on your list, but I haven't seen any of the movies. Actually, that's a lie. I vaguely remember watching Gone Girl? Or maybe I just saw the commercials and remember how the actors look?

    1. I saw more of the older adaptations (Megan Follows is my Anne). I do find that I have read more than I have seen especially since I stopped watching TV/movies in 2019.

  2. I loved the Percy Jackson movies, and the TV show was pretty good, too!

    1. My daughter is a fan, so I did see the first two movies (movie 1 was better than movie 2), but I never saw the TV show.

  3. I'm always so reluctant to watch adaptations of books but if I recall correctly, we watched the Lord of the Flies movie after finishing the book in class. I still haven't watched The Fault in Our Stars in full (just snippets here and there) because I don't think I'd handle the feels well, haha. Great choice of topic today!

    1. I don't recall ever being *that* mad about an adaptation. Even ones where I felt like it was thin on the original source material (The Duff, Beautiful Creatures) were still entertaining. I had to watch TFIOS in pieces. It was tough.

  4. I have only seen Percy Jackson from the list above!

    1. My daughter and I were saying how we (unpopular opinion) actually liked the first film.

  5. I really enjoyed the adaptation of Happiness For Beginners by Katherine Center. I've seen the adaptations of Big Little Lies (pretty good, but not as good as the book), If I Stay (pretty good, but not the actors I'd have picked) and Anne of Green Gables, a long time ago.

    1. The Anne adaptation of my heart is the one shown on the cover I selected - the Canadian TV adaptation with Megan Follows. Saw it in my youth on PBS and fell in love.

  6. I didn't know that If I Stay had been made into a movie. I just read it a little while ago, so now I am going to see if I can find it. Thanks.

    1. I had not seen the film, though Rachel (above) said it was pretty good. It was a book I have big love for, so I would be picky with that one.
