Top Ten Tuesday: I Want to Go to There Volume 3

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

I Want to Go to There!

I am always raving about traveling via a book, therefore, I was excited to see this topic pop up again. This is actually my third installment of I Want to Go to There (volume 1, volume 2). Don't worry, I have visited some fabulous places since then.
  • Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau - Paris felt like an actual character in this book, and Jouhanneau did an incredible job showing me the city. It's one of the few places overseas I have visited, but it's been a while, I really enjoyed my return trip.
  • With You All the Way by Cynthia Hand - I appreciated Hand taking me to Hawaii. She shared history, some of the culture, and many breathtaking views with me.
  • Things That Grow by Meredith Goldstein - I have visited all the states Goldstein featured as I am well acquainted with the northeastern part of the US, but I had never seen any of the gardens she mentioned. I appreciated visiting them and enjoyed exploring them with Lori.
  • Amelia Unabridged by Ashley Schumacher - I have yet to visit the state of Michigan, and though Amelia didn't travel much throughout the state, I fell in love with the bits I did see, especially the bookstore. It sounded like such a magical place, and I really hope a shop like that exists somewhere.
  • Destination Anywhere by Sara Barnard - I only enjoyed a very short visit to Western Canada, and so, most of what Barnard showed me were unexplored for me. I really felt like I shared each and every discovery with Peyton.
  • Float Plan by Trish Doller - I am not sure I could handle the responsibilities of piloting my own ship, I found this visit to the Caribbean fantastic!
  • Mistletoe in Paradise by Jill Shalvis - Another boat trip in the Caribbean for me! Again, it was a wonderful escape, and I really do enjoy sailing.
  • The Romantic Pact - A good portion of this book is spent in Germany. I visited relatives in Germany back in 1990, but didn't really see much outside of Mannheim. Quinn took me on a rather popular trip via the Romantische Strasse, and I had a great time taking this tour with Crew and Hazel.
  • Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert - I don't know about anybody else, but I really want to visit this small town and stay at Jacob's B&B. I want to battle the fowl, visit the local pub, and eat Eve's culinary creations.
  • Much Ado About You by Samantha Young - Obviously, I want to visit the book store featured in the story, but I am also interested in seeing the entire town. It sounds like a delightful place to be. The beach, the pub, and the delightful citizens are calling to me, and I can see me booking a trip to there.

Where would you visit, real or fictional?

  1. Ooh I'm curious about the Michigan bit now, since I live there! Which part of Michigan if you don't mind my asking (assuming it's specified, which it may not have been). Also, I'd love to read more books set in Hawaii. and PAris...

    1. I don't remember if they specifically mentioned where in MI, since the store was fictional, but it was lakeside.

    2. Ah. Yeah we're on the west side (not far from Lake Michigan) but I grew up on the east side.

  2. Paris is a place I've wanted to visit forever, and the Caribbean islands would be nice, too!

    1. I have been to a few islands and Paris once. All were amazing in their own way. I hope you get the opportunity to visit soon

  3. I want to be the owner of Jacob's B&B! It just sounds too cute and peaceful! Will also take Jacob if he comes with it!

  4. I grew up in Michigan. So many beautiful places to see. Now I'm on the Gulf Coast and it's gorgeous here too. As for far away places, I will travel to them through books:)

    1. It's nice you have been able to stay near water. I have always lived on the coast (in NY, NJ, and FL). I couldn't image being far away from water. I have been to the gulf coast, but never MI. I do hope to get there at some point now that the kid lives in the midwest.

  5. Hawaii is my favorite place to vacation. It's the first place I want to go when it's safer to travel.

    1. I think HI is beautiful, but not being a beach person, it's not high on my list. I can totally understand the draw though.

  6. I went to Canada when I was very little, so I remember nothing. I'd love to go back. I'd also very much be up for Germany, if only I could get there with some sort of teleportation device...

    1. I went to Canada several times as a kid and only briefly a few years back. There is so much to see. Fingers crossed we can travel freely again soon.

  7. Oh yes, I loved the town in Much Ado About You! Great choice! I wouldn't mind staying either Jacob's B&B from Eve Brown either, lol.

    1. I would love more books set in Jacob's town. Between his bestie and the sisters, I feel like there are stories to tell.

  8. I just finished FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER, which is set in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. I've never visited the state, but it's on my list since I have ancestors from Branch County that I want to know more about. I'll get there one of these days!

    Happy TTT!

    1. My ancestors are from Brooklyn or Europe. We are too new to the US to have spread out much.

  9. I love that we can still travel in our mind through the books we read. One of the big pushes that motivated me to go to Paris the first time was a book series by Laura Florand. It's amazing how these places can come to life with talented writing. Hope you get to visit each and every place you shared! :)

    1. Some books are just set in places, and that place is simply backdrop, but when authors treat the setting like another character in the story, I find it such an incredible experience. Look at that! I have had wanderlust since I was a kid. I signed up for a service via PBS and had penpals all over the world, because I wanted to know about all these places.

  10. I didn't realize that The Romantic Pact took place (at least partly) in German. I've only been once (about 10 years ago) but I really loved it and would love to go back.

    1. I was in an Airport in Germany back in like 2012, but I haven't visited since 1990. I really hope to see more of the country at some point since my father and my maternal/paternal grandparents are all from Germany

    1. I do too. The Paris/London trip I went on has changed a bit and now includes visits to the countryside. I am jealous they changed it after I took my tour.

  12. I always want to visit the bookstores that show up in books. I could see myself having a great time sailing as well.

  13. Gah, I want to go somewhere, anywhere, and these all sound amazing! In a perfect world, I would leave the country, go... everywhere. I really want to go everywhere. Perhaps that is greedy but idk, I just do (not that I WILL, of course hahah).

    1. Same, Shannon. If money and Covid were no issue....
Don't worry, when you kids get older, you usually have more money to spend on yourself. It's great when the kids can pay their own way too (exhibit A: My wonderful vacation - could not have afforded that if I was paying for 2)

  14. What a great list! And my tbr just grew so much. ;) I've only read Float Plan, but I also enjoyed sailing through the Caribbean. I would love to actually go sailing someday.

    1. My sailing through the Caribbean was nothing like Anna's, but I saw the pretty blue water from a very big boat.

  15. I'm curious about what small town Jacob's B&B is in! I should get my act together and read this series... It's been too long and I already own the first two so I've no excuse.
