Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

We got our first snowstorm of the season. I must admit, it was not as H U G E as they predicted, but I am impressed that we actually did get snow. Watching it come down and blow around made me even more grateful that I am currently working from home. Of course, I had the snow clean-up day (Thursday) scheduled off. I was supposed to get my haircut, but my stylist rescheduled when news of the impending storm grew. But, alas, this is the haircut that will not be. First the snow, and then, about 30 minutes before I was leaving for my re-scheduled appointment, he texted me that his wife went into labor. Like I said, this haircut was not meant to be. I really need one though.

My daughter is arriving today. I love having her home. I am excited to get my Christmas gift too. I am not the woman they design clothing for. I am lucky enough to find tailored pants (with a lot of searching), but pajama bottoms are never right. Always too long or too tight. The kid started making my pjs over ten years ago, and I am getting a new batch this year. She sent me photos of her and sloth working on them. She puts my initials on the pants, because although she has tried to show me, I can never figure out the front from the back.

STACKING THE SHELVES

Again, Amazon knows how to get me to buy a book. They sent me one of the $5 this particular book emails, and with $5 off, the book came in my purchase range, so I bought it. I have really enjoyed all of Susin Nielsen's books, so it wasn't a tough decision.

What I Read Last Week

Contemporary romances for the win! My highest rated books were all romances this week. Have I mentioned how happy I am that Rachel Lynn Solomon decided to write romances? She's really good at it, if you ask me. Happy Singles Day was a wonderful surprised. I expected to like it, but it really hit all the right notes for me. It was funny and touching and it just filled me with glee. I finally read the last Wild Aces books. Into the Blue was the middle book, and again, I was surprised by the way this one hit me emotionally. It wasn't steeped in the death from the first book, the way the other two books were, though the influence was still there. An excellent reading week!

What I Am Currently Reading

Meet-Cute is living up to its name. I am really enjoying my time with Mia. I only have a bit left, so I am at the pivotal moment.

Anxious People is fantastic! I am so sad that I have no more Backman books to read after this.

What I Plan to Read

  1. My cousin lives in Binghamton NY and she said they got 40 inches of snow! Yikes. Glad your daughter is home for the holidays. That's always nice. :)

    Hopeless romantic looks cute.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!!!

    1. Those people are hardy up there. My daughter came back sort of laughing at weather after spending 4 years in Syracuse. I hope your holiday is merry and bright!

  2. How absolutely lovely Sam, she must have a keen eye for detail and those pyjama prints are super cute! Do you know how long it takes for her to make a pair? I've had a brand new sewing machine sitting in the box for the past seven or so years and only whipped it out earlier in the year to make a few masks, which turned out reasonably well. So lovely to hear your daughter is coming home for the holidays, I hope you both have a wonderful break together!

    1. The kid always picks super cute prints for me. She knows I love them. She's pretty quick with construction. She had to make a pattern, because she lost some pieces, but it's the cutting that takes the longest. I never had any sewing skills, but I sent the kid to summer programs at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, her undergrad degree is in theatre design, and she worked at the workshop for Syracuse Stage as an undergrad. She has good sewing skills. I hate that my favorite sewer is so far away. I hope you enjoy a lovely holiday season too

    1. I couldn't resist that title either. It made me giggle. I love that she can make me pjs, because I can never find any I like. She knows what sort of fun patterns I like too.

  4. It snowed here, too, but not very much. Just enough to make everything slippery. Enjoy your time with your daughter. Have a great week!

  5. Wow your daughter is super talented! I never got the knack to learn sewing...then again, I didn't really have anyone around who knew it enough to teach me! Lol. But that's awesome! I do feel you on not being able to find pants that fit in the waist and don't drag as much. I usually end up pulling them up a little high when walking around the house.

Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones as usual! Lol. Hope you enjoy them all!

    Thanks for visiting my StS!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. In 8th grade, I did this boy's math homework for a month in exchange for him finishing my sewing project. I just could not do it. My waist isn't the problem, it's my bottom. I don't like pants tight across my bottom, hips, and thighs.

    1. Same. I might not have to travel in it, but I still don't want mountains of snow. Hope you have a fantastic holiday!

  7. Ugh, how unfortunate about the hair. I get super cranky when I can't have mine done (see: March-to-May lockdown. I hope not to experience such a thing again).

Did you enjoy watching the snow from the warm and safe cocoon of your own home for once? 😉

You're so lucky to have a daughter who knows how to make you pretty things. My mum used to do the same when she was younger (not pajamas though) - now she's got eye and bones/muscle troubles, so she stopped years ago.

    1. He texted and worked me in for Monday, but I now have to see about some time off at the last minute. I am going to login at 6:30am and work until 1:45pm. Then see if I can logon again later, but only if the queue is popping. Otherwise, I have a lot of personal time, like 53 hours. I felt for the snow removal people out there. When the snow was coming down it was also really windy and cold. I was very happy to not have been out in it, and even happier when I heard they stopped the buses. Sewing is a skill I wish I had. When the kid was home, she was too busy to teach me, and now, she's too far away. Maybe someday.

  8. You reminded me that I need to try that Chanel Cleeton series. I've been meaning to. It looks good!

Now that dog shaking his paws is just like mine when she sees me. Have a great Sunday!

  10. My salon just had to shut down for a month because of Covid exposure - I'll be weeks past my scheduled appointment so I feel your pain.

Rachel Lynn Solomon is an autobuy author for me and I am so excited she is branching out into adult romcoms - can't wait to read this one!

    Happy holidays!

    1. Gaaah! Sorry to hear your salon was shut down. My guy is renting one of those suites. So, it's him and the chair, no other people. I enjoyed all of Solomon's books, but the last two, which were more rom-com were standouts for me.

  11. oh I need a haircut so badly, I haven't had one all year, and I normally get a trim every six weeks. My hair is driving me crazy LOL Good for you getting some snow, we have been getting a ton and I am loving the winter wonderland vibes.

    1. Wow! I have had two haircuts this year. One was in my sister's yard in May, while the salons were still locked down. I am not a huge snow fan, but it bothers me less since I don't have to travel in it

  14. Can you believe it's going to be 76 degrees here tomorrow?! I'm jealous of your snow. Although I'd have to drive in it, so I take that back, lol. I'd take it on Friday and through the weekend, though. So nice that you get to spend time with your daughter and that she makes you PJs when they're so hard to find for you.

Yay! So happy you loved Into the Blue! I also enjoyed Anxious People. I must get to Backman's other works.

    1. I hate snow. I would be whining a lot more if I was commuting to work. I think it's 39 or 40 today. Not bad. It's sunny. I read Britt-Marie, but I listened to all the rest of Backman's books, and I have to say, the narrator is wonderful!

  15. I love that your daughter makes your PJs! And I'm so glad you get to see her soon.
I had one haircut this year: February, right before the lockdown. But my hair is curly so 1, it takes FOREVER to grow out, and 2, if its a bit janky or uneven at any point its too hard to tell because its curly!

    1. I am glad she makes my PJs, because I cannot find any that fit the way I like. At least with curls you don't have to worry about it looking flat or limp. Mine is really straight and makes me bananas when it's too long.

  16. It got very cold here but no snow. On the very rare occasion that we get some, it's usually tiny ice balls. Have a lovely holiday with your daughter.

  17. I love it that your daughter is making your PJ's, that's so sweet. My mom used to make clothes for me when I was young and I always felt special because no one had the same clothes that way.

SNOW?!?! I want snow too. I love walking when it's cold outside, yesterday it was 3 degrees Celcius, the perfect walking temperature!

Have a lovely last week of the year :)

It’s been raining for a week here, so different to last year when everything was on fire!

  21. My hair stylist had her baby right when I was finally getting back to get my hair done too :-( On the plus side they let her use the salon all alone on Mondays now so I can go without worry.

In my next life I want a sewer and baker in my life lol

    1. She just makes the pjs, but I am grateful. It's usually more expensive to make clothing than to buy it, so there's really no reason unless, as in the case of my pjs, it's impossible to find something in the store.
