Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

I think the only thing interesting about this week was the weather. I had the opportunity to wear my full length parka, my shorter coat, and my windbreaker. I won't lie, it was exciting to break out the windbreaker, even if the warm temperatures didn't stick around too long. I always find the coat-conundrum weather frustrating. Like, one morning it was 30°, but then it was over 60° in the afternoon. Layers, they always tell us to wear layers.

I was happy to be finally getting back into my sleep groove. But, it seems the universe let me have this just in time for daylight savings to come and mess with it again.

The best news of the week is that the track repairs were actually finished according to schedule. No more lining up to be let off the train in Hamilton. That was a nice way to start to week.

I am actually doing something fun this week! My daughter is coming for a whirlwind visit, because we have VIP tickets to see Dashboard Confessional on Friday! I always love a Dashboard show, and to sweeten the deal, The Get Up Kids are opening. They are all-time favorites of mine. What can I say, emo for life.

Here's a face I could never say "no" to
That walk!

STACKING THE SHELVES

Not many new books added this week, but I GOT THE NEW ABBI WAXMAN! I am a little excited about that book.

What I Read Last Week

The week started off with a bang, and I am happy to report, no DNFs this week. I loved Garvin's debut, Symptoms of Being Human, and he wowed me once again. The Lightness of Hands was simply wonderful, and it was great getting acquainted with the world of magic.

What I Am Currently Reading

As I write this post, I am only two chapters into Late to the Party, but I can say I am intrigued by this idea of Codi feeling as though she is a terrible teenager, and now much embark on those teen rites of passage.

I am really loving Undone. It's a second chance romance, where the couple's first time around was kept a secret from their group of friends. Every time I am in the hero's head, I have to let out an "awww", because he has a really high emotional IQ, and wow! He really loved the heroine, who surprised him with the breakup. I am interested in learning more about the heroine's backstory. Something happened, something which left scars, and I want to know what it was.

  1. It's funny...you're trying to avoid DNFs and I would actually welcome them at the moment! The more DNFs I get the quicker my mega pile is reduced! Of course I still want a few good reads in amongst them!

    1. My TBR is forever growing, but I like to think I know how to pick books I would enjoy. DNFs make me sad. They're book failures for me.

  2. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one feeling the wrath of daylight savings! I am thinking it will help me finish up a few books, but that is yet to be determined! I am intrigued to find out more about the new Abbi Waxman now! I hope that you love it. :)

    1. I was sort of getting happy about having a shred of daylight as I walked to the bus stop at 5.50 am too. Now, it's pitch black again. BOO! I have enjoyed both the Waxman books I have read, with Nina Hill being a solid hit for me. I like her humor, and think I will love her new book

  3. Boo to the up and down weather but hooray for the track repairs being done. I feel like I'm in the minority but I never like the shift to DST. I go to bed early so it being light out at 8:30 and 9:00 messes with me. It's funny to me how often I don't know the bands you mention. Because we're the same age! But I think my musical knowledge practically ended in the 80's and I never progressed past that golden decade. LOL I read the first book in that Kristen Callihan series years ago and even though I really enjoyed it for some reason I never continued the series. I need to fix that.

    1. I think a lot of people are not a fan of DST. I understand why it was once a good thing, but it's 2020, we really don't need it any longer. Let's join OH and AZ and do away with it. I was more alternative, when we were teens. Emo became more of a thing when I was in college and thereafter. My daughter embraced it, and still shares my love for these bands. I know of the bands you tend to feature, but I don't KNOW them. The interesting thing about Callihan's series is that it started in college, but continued in the NFL. It was a subtle shift, but a shift all the same. I did't understand the way, but I didn't care either. Still great romances.

  4. Yeah the weather is definitely at the wonky stage where you got wear the winter coat in the morning and by afternoon you're walking out wearing no coat at all! It's a tad annoying, lol.

Nice new reads! Those are all totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

  6. I'm glad the blasted coronavirus isn't messing with your mother/daughter indoor fun, and you can still go to shows! Concerts, etc. have been cancelled/postponed here in Italy until God knows when.

    1. I haven't heard anything. Other areas have been closing schools for deep cleaning, but not in these parts. I just heard that there will be no non-stop Acela trains from NYC to DC. I could benefit from this, since Amtrak always causes delays for my trains.

  7. OMG Sam! That kitty is too cute!!! And the dog joining the cat, aaaw. Now good for you that the track repair are done as I know all about train delays *sigh*. Our weather is also weird and we had no winter at all! It's never happened before. What we got though were tons of rain and wind. I can't wait for spring!

    1. That buddies vid even made my dad smile, and he's a tough customer. It got cold here, but we didn't really get any snow, which I am ok with. We got a lot of rain, so, no worries on our water reserves. I am all about spring too. The forecast is calling for warm temps this week .Whee!

  8. the vids are sooooo cute, but the dog and cat in the window...we need more of that in the world. i am pretty good at choosing books, but the deeper i go into my tbr, which i too am trying to organize and trim down, i feel i will find some. early in my blogging days, i clicked on everything...sorta.

    1. Isn't that precious? When my daughter got her first kindle, she would buy the daily deal almost every day. We have a lot of older YA books. Some are ones I want to read, others, not so much.

  9. Yay for the track work being completed. The weather has been all over the place here too. I actually managed one day this week where I didn't wear a coat at all, which was nice. I hope you and your daughter have fun at the concert. It sounds like it should be a fun one!

    1. No coat = goals. I love sweater weather, and we sort of skipped that in the fall, so, I am hoping to get more of that in the early spring.

  10. This back and forth weather is driving me crazy too! It will be really cold in the morning, like 50-60 degrees, and then reach the high 70's to low 80's in Southern California. I never know if I should put shorts or pants on my daughter for school. Have fun with your daughter at the show! It sounds lie you're going to have an amazing time :)

    1. I haven't heard anything, so I am assuming all is good for the event. We don't go in the pit any longer. I am too old for that. Since we are VIP, we get in early, and I am hoping to nab our spot at the half wall with chairs. I don't want to be crammed in on the floor

  12. I hope you have a blast with your daughter! I used to listen to Dashboard Confessional all the time. :) I haven't read that book by Rimmer (how's the audio?), but I won an ARC of her newest! Before I Let You Go killed me.

  13. Ooh have fun at the Dashboard Confessional show. I'm definitely a fan of emo and pop punk music. I'm so over the back and forth weather as well - it's actually pretty nice today, so I'm going to try and get outside for a bit.

  14. The weather is confusing right now. I have no idea what to wear from day to day. I am not happy about the fact that they changed the time today. It takes me forever to get used to any of these time changes. I wish they would just leave it alone. Have a great time with your daughter at the show! Have a great week!

    1. I keep saying, every state needs to get on the OH/AZ bandwagon and abandon DST. It's no longer needed like it was, when it was first adopted. It just wrecks havoc now.

Those videos were just what I needed. Especially the dog hugging the cat. That was perfect.

I like the look for a fair amount of your books this week! Penny Reid has been one I've been meaning to try for ages and now I have some of hers, I shall! :)

    Emo for life haha. :)

The weather has been up and down here too, it reached 60 today but then drops again, which is normal for here I guess but I am getting spring fever.

Glad the books seem to be going well!

    1. Don't worry DST has wrecked my sleep schedule once again. College is not good for anyone's sleep schedule. I went to engineering school, and would be in some building or computer lab for days. I remember trying to get my factory to have profitable outputs, and we were so gross from not showering for several days in a row. I will never not enjoy Penny Reid. She's a star
