Top Ten Tuesday - Bookish Buzzwords

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Bookish Buzzwords!

Happy Tuesday! Today, we are talking about buzzwords that make us want to or NOT want to read a book. My brand is pretty much low drama, warm, and fuzzy. I like to read books that make me happy and have a happy ending.

I think it's no secret that I read for escape, and as such, I rarely want to read books that are dark or seem like something I can read in the new paper. There are certain tropes I will always grab, so I cheated and have some trope instead of buzzwords under my YEAs. Please forgive me.

Buzzwords that are a YEA
  1. Found family
  2. Second chance romance
  3. Friends-to-lovers
  4. Uplifting
  5. Charming

Buzzwords that are a NOPE (mostly)
  1. "Important"
  2. "Timely"
  3. Political
  4. "Realistic"
  5. Dark

What makes you read or not read a book?
Let us know in the comments!

  1. You know that if a book is dark, I'll grab it LOL. But not dark as in "ripped from the headlines". I love me a found family though!

    1. I know you like those darker themes. I suppose true crime can be dark and ripped from the headlines, no? I don't read that. It's terrifying. Found family seems very popular. Makes sense why I see it in so many books I read.

  2. "Charming" is a word I definitely love for my books!

  3. I wanted to put found family on my list, too. I left it off because it's two words, and the prompt said buzzWORD. Haha.

    1. You are a true purist, AJ. It's harder that way.

  4. I mostly avoid the same buzzwords as you do, although it depends on "dark." I don't mind a darker read, but I don't like anything too dark or disturbing. I value my sleep and my sanity too much for that!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

    1. Yes, I don't want to be reading stuff that scares me, but things that are too deep can keep me awake too.

  5. I'm also not one for the political reads, although I find a lot of fantasies do have a political bent to it and that usually works for me, lol. I'm a huge found family lover as well. I will read all books with that trope 💜

    1. It's funny you mention fantasies. My daughter and I were discussing it, and she said she only wants to see politics in her dystopian books.

  6. Found Family, second chances, new beginnings, magical, quirky, all words that draw me in. I do read some books with darker themes (crime thrillers, historical fiction) but an not a fan of politics or espionage and intrigue, unless there is some humor to it. I love books with older characters. I didn't do this topic because I couldn't think of ten.

    1. I have read a thriller here and there, but I have to be in the right headspace for it. I tend towards lighter fare with HEAs.
