Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! Can you believe this is our last November Sunday? The year really is flying by. Hope anyone who celebrated had a great Thanksgiving. It was nice to have my immediate family together for the first time in a rather long while, and the food was great too. I am in a pretty good mood, because I was lucky enough to have the company of my child all week. It was nice. She even made me lunch on workdays, and she is a very good cook.

Pumpkin Cobbler

Not much else going on. Work was busy between an outage and a chunk on people out for the holiday, I had to switch gears a bit and cover two functions. Hey, maybe I will be remembered for my flexibility, right?

Don't judge when you see my haul below. Amazon knows I will buy books each and every time they give me a deal. It's interesting, because the offer has changed over time. Last time it was $20 of books, $5 credit. This time, $25 of books, $6 credit. I fall for it every time though, and even purchased some newer releases. In all fairness, the four eLibraries I have access to have no books by that publisher, so it seems like a justified purchase to me.

What I Read Last Week

This was a really strong reading week. I finally found another 5-stars with the new Shalvis. I swear, this series gets better and better with each book. My throwback books were both really wonderful too, and I was happy to see that things are still good with me and Moose Springs.

What I Am Currently Reading

Not My Match is fun and exactly what I was looking for. I am not sure it's better than the first book of the series, but it's solid.

This Is How It Always Is is emotional and very interesting. It's about a family and how they navigate things, when their 5 year old son tells them he wants to grow up to be a girl.

What I Plan to Read

My library loan for the new Niven book came through, and I am eager to start it. I have heard great things.
How was your week?

  1. I actually think it's a good thing to switch gears - sometimes I get so bored (not to mention, I haven't enjoyed my job for a long time now) that I would welcome a change of any kind!

Your kid is good at spoiling you LOL.

    Those Black Friday monkeys 😂.

    1. I had to get back into the groove of the other role, while still keeping with my new one, but hopefully I won't have to juggle too long. I laughed so loud when I saw the monkeys. It was like seeing those old Black Friday Walmart videos.

  2. I'm glad to hear you had a lovely Thanksgiving, I'm always sad that we don't celebrate it in The Netherlands, when I see all the amazing pictures.

    1. You don't have a family holiday sort of like it? I always like a reason to gather the family, even more so now that my daughter lives so far away.

    2. No, sadly we don't. Just Christmas, we celebrate that for two official days... Easter and New Year.

  3. Glad it was a good Thanksgiving... and the pumpkin cobbler looks like it turned out wonderfully! Hooray for the book haul! I didn't take advantage of it this time around. I feel almost overwhelmed but the sheer number of unread books I have.

    1. The cobbler is even better cold, which surprised me. Tastes a lot like pumpkin pie, but the topping elevates it (and it's better because no crusts). I cannot resist the Amazon credit deal. I really wanted to read those two Page Street Kids books, and my library never gets any of that pubs books. I caved.

  4. Glad you a had a nice holiday! And time with your daughter! Sounds like a good week all in all!

Nice new reads! All totally new to me ones. I was surprisingly good when it came to Amazon's sales. I mean, I'm still tempted to hop on and take advantage of their buy 2 get 1 sales. But since I've a Secret Santa exchange with the bookish community, I really need to wait for that before I go off my wishlist!

Hope you enjoy all the new reads!!

    1. You have great self control. Those incentive credits are really the only time I buy books.

  5. I can never resist buying new books, too - I bought some this weekend! Glad you had a great visit with your daughter!

    1. The older I get, the faster time passes in general. I thought this year would drag given the conditions, but it seems like it was yesterday we went into lockdown.

  7. That's awesome you were able to spend Thanksgiving with your daughter.

Those monkeys- oh my gosh what a trip! :)

Marcelo and the Real World- neat cover!

    1. That's the tree house Marcelo's dad let him stay in. I like when things from the story make the cover. Yes, those monkeys were hilarious

  8. That's what I always like the most about Thanksgiving is just getting to spend time with family that I don't get to see all the time. So this year kind of sucked a little with not getting to do as much of that. But I did get to see a few family members so that was nice. You got some great books there! I wish I had money to spend this year. With losing my part time job at the bookstore back in April thanks to the pandemic, I had to wait till my end of the month paycheck for money, which I was lucky that it came today, but not in time for Friday. Probably better. I'd have spent a ton on books at the bookstore like I always do.

    1. Sorry to hear you lost your part-time job. I really don't buy many books, but I can never pass up those incentives. I probably get that from Amazon once a quarter.

  9. Glad you got to spend the week with your daughter. I love it when someone cooks for me! What a treat.

I love Alpacas and that pic just makes me smile. So cute.

I had to laugh at the book title Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Jumper! I hope the story is good. :)

    1. I have had Christmas Jumper on my TBR for so long. When I saw it for under $1, I had to buy it. I love being taken care of, so I will always welcome the kid and her cooking.

  10. Yay for all the fun books you were able to snag! I'm glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, and that you had your daughter for a whole week. That had to have been lovely.

  11. I have also had my daughter home for the past week and my realtor delivered a pumpkin pie to our house. I almost feel like we are living parallel lives :) I tend to be a sucker for just about any deal so I know exactly what you mean. I hope you enjoy all of your new books and have a great week!

    1. That was nice of the realtor. Pumpkin is my favorite! Tough when the kids leave, but awesome when they come home

  12. I have fallen for that Amazon deal many times. Lately, I've been taking the deal with Prime for a later shipment and a credit towards digital downloads.

    1. I didn't even know about that. My mom and daughter have prime, but I don't. I just have them buy stuff for me.

  20. I'm so happy you had your daughter there for the holidays and that's awesome she is such a great cook! I didn't even think of that benefit for down the road lol. My 9 year old loves to bake so I guess I'm setting myself up for baked goods in our future ha! And I can't wait to see what you think of Not My Match by Ilsa Madden-Mills, I loved the last book by her that I picked up. Hope you enjoy!

    1. My daughter started cooking in middle school, when she took a foods class. I am a bit more invested in her sewing though, because I am short and I really miss having her here to hem my pants. Not My Match was different from the first book, but I enjoyed it. I feel like the Giselle might be a hard sell to readers of the first book, but she has reasons.

    2. Sewing too?! Aww you're so lucky, here's hoping you could sneak that in while she was home, And that makes sense, I'm sure she's jaded because of what happened but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

    3. The only problem is all her sewing machines are in her apartment in Chicago. She would hand stitch for me, but I know she could machine hem in minutes, so it seems like asking a lot.
