Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Now & When
Sara Bennett Wealer
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: July 14, 2020
Goodreads
For fans of Jenny Han and Christine Riccio comes a romantic dramedy about a teen girl who stumbles upon a mysterious website that tells her everything she doesn't want to know about her future.

There's something about Truman Alexander that Skyler Finch finds incredibly annoying. Actually, several things: his voice (grating), his arrogance (total know-it-all), his debate-team obsession (eyeroll), and his preppy vibe (does he iron his shorts?). She does her best to avoid him and focus on the important stuff: friends, school, and her boyfriend, Eli. His promposal was perfect--just like he is--and the future is looking bright. Or is it?

For some unexplainable reason, Skylar's phone is sending her notifications from the future . . . a future in which, to her horror, she appears to be with Truman. As in, romantically. As in, Skyler cannot let that happen.

But trying to change the future means messing up the present, and what Skyler sees keeps shifting. Classmates disappear and reappear, swap partners and futures. Turns out there are no actions without reactions, and life doesn't come with a road map. But sometimes the wandering leads you exactly where you need to be, and people--like glitchy phones--are full of surprises.
Why I want to read this book

Mysterious notification from the future indicating that she is in a relationship with a boy she sort of hates? Sound like this story holds the promise of some fun with Skyler trying to keep this future from happening. Yes, I have seen the social media from the future premise before, but this one has, what it seems, a hate-to-love twist. I'm intrigued.

Jellicoe Road
Melina Marchetta
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: August 28, 2006
Goodreads
I'm dreaming of the boy in the tree. I tell him stories. About the Jellicoe School and the Townies and the Cadets from a school in Sydney. I tell him about the war between us for territory. And I tell him about Hannah, who lives in the unfinished house by the river. Hannah, who is too young to be hiding away from the world. Hannah, who found me on the Jellicoe Road six years ago.

Taylor is leader of the boarders at the Jellicoe School. She has to keep the upper hand in the territory wars and deal with Jonah Griggs - the enigmatic leader of the cadets, and someone she thought she would never see again.

And now Hannah, the person Taylor had come to rely on, has disappeared. Taylor's only clue is a manuscript about five kids who lived in Jellicoe eighteen years ago. She needs to find out more, but this means confronting her own story, making sense of her strange, recurring dream, and finding her mother - who abandoned her on the Jellicoe Road.

The moving, joyous and brilliantly compelling new novel from the best-selling, multi-award-winning author of Looking for Alibrandi and Saving Francesca.
Why I want to read this book

Marchetta is an author I have seen mentions by many of the international bloggers I follow. Based on all the praise I have seen for her, I finally took the plunge and read Saving Francesca, which I absolutely loved. This one is a bit different. There seems to be a bit of mystery in the story, and since it's described as moving and joyous, it seems like a good pick for me.

    1. AJ just said it was weird, and I am only 20ish% in, so I have to agree at this point. I treating it like a Maggie Steifvater book, where it's confusing, but then makes sense

    1. I enjoy hate-to-love unless the hate part is sort of toxic. I read a book, recently, featuring that trope, and I almost DNFed, because they were turning sort of mean. I was glad the book saved itself.
