Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Lucky Caller
Emma Mills
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Henry Holt
Release Date: January 14, 2020
Goodreads
With the warmth, wit, intimate friendships, and heart-melting romance she brings to all her books, Emma Mills crafts a story about believing in yourself, owning your mistakes, and trusting in human connection in Lucky Caller.

When Nina decides to take a radio broadcasting class her senior year, she expects it to be a walk in the park. Instead, it’s a complete disaster.

The members of Nina's haphazardly formed radio team have approximately nothing in common. And to maximize the awkwardness her group includes Jamie, a childhood friend she'd hoped to basically avoid for the rest of her life.

The show is a mess, internet rumors threaten to bring the wrath of two fandoms down on their heads, and to top it all off Nina's family is on the brink of some major upheaval.

Everything feels like it's spiraling out of control―but maybe control is overrated?
Why I want to read this book

Obviously, I automatically added this book to my TBR, because Emma Mills wrote it, and I simply adore everything the woman has produced. Her books are like a towel out fresh out of the dryer. They make me feel warm and happy. I am looking forward to meeting each and every member of her radio team, and to get to the root of why Nina and Jamie stopped talking. Hands down! This is one of my most anticipated 2020 releases, and I am chomping at the bit to read it.

The Distance from A to Z
Natalie Blitt
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: HarperCollins
Release Date: January 12, 2016
Goodreads
Seventeen-year old Abby has only one goal for her summer: to make sure she is fluent in French—well, that, and to get as far away from baseball and her Cubs-obsessed family as possible. A summer of culture and language, with no sports in sight.

That turns out to be impossible, though, because her French partner is the exact kind of boy she was hoping to avoid. Eight weeks. 120 hours of class. 80 hours of conversation practice with someone who seems to exclusively wear baseball caps and jerseys.

But Zeke in French is a different person than Zeke in English. And Abby can’t help but fall for him, hard. As Abby begins to suspect that Zeke is hiding something, she has to decide if bridging the gap between the distance between who she is and who he is, is worth the risk.
Why I want to read this book

It appears, that I purchased this book in June of 2016. Yep. Clicked and forgot it. Then, early this year, I had the pleasure of reading Blitt's most recent release, The Truth About Leaving, which I enjoyed very much. It made me looked into Blitt's back catalog, and I realized I had another one of her books. Many reviewers have called this a cute contemporary, and when have you known me not to up for a cute contemporary? That's right, never. I am looking forward to watching this love match happen.

What are you waiting on?
Any backlog books you want to read soon?

    1. I am loving A to Z. So cute! I am at like 90% already (started this morning). So, as long as the ending doesn't suck, I would call it a win for me.

  14. Oh, I'd like to know why Jamie and Nina stopped talking, too. Plus, I love that cover. I've always wanted to learn French and the Distance From A to Z sounds like fun. Both books sound delightful.

I love that you combined CWW and Books From the Backlog. Maybe I'll copy you sometime! :)

    1. There is so much French in A to Z, and it's just an adorable romance to boot.

YES! Join us for Books from the Backlog. It's been a great way for me to make a commitment to one backlog book per week. I read each one I feature (that's my own part of the meme)

    1. I didn't start pleasure reading again until like 2013, and I definitely have some one-clicks from back then too. I am tackling my shelf books one a week via this meme.

  16. I just found Lucky Caller, and it just looks so good. It will be my first Emma Mills song, but I've definitely seen good things for her. It looks adorable and like it shall be providing the feels. Wonderful post! :)

  17. I've been meaning to participate in Carol's Beat the Backlog feature, but haven't made the plunge yet. I feels like it's a commitment I cannot fully commit to right now. Even though I have been doing better with reading some of my older books! I have two of Emma Mills books that I recently purchased from Book Outlet on a whim, and I'm looking forward to reading both. :)

    1. Carol's meme is simply to feature a backlog book, which I paired with my Can't Wait Wednesday. I have made the commitment to myself to read that selected book. It's been a good way to make myself read the book and not just talk about it. Emma Mills is such a favorite of mine. I like lighter books, which focus on family, friendship, and romance, so they work for me. They have depth, but they are never heavy. These are my go-to type books, because I know they will lift my spirits.

  18. I am very excited for Emma Mills newest release, although I actually forgot about it. The cover is different to her previous book, though! I am used to a certain cover style for her so I'm not certain of this new one. I suppose I'll wait until I see it in person.

I've done that so many times buying a book and promptly forgetting about it. I hope you read and enjoy The Distance from A to Z.

    1. It's weird to see an Emma Mills book with people on the cover. It really goes against the artsy covers of her past books, but you know, illustrated covers are all the rage 🙄 I DID enjoy A to Z. Honestly, had it had an epilogue, I probably would have given it 4.5 - 5 stars. I liked it a lot, but needed a bit more of the future to be satisfied.

    1. It seems a lot of us have a copy of A to Z. I will say, I enjoyed it so much, and I would have gone beyond 4-stars had Blitt given me an epilogue or something. I just needed a bit more.

  20. Lucky Caller sounds cool! I haven't heard of the author but I'd take a chance. I'm curious about why they stopped talking too... And hoping for a romance to blossom once they work it out, lol.

    1. You read a lot more UF and Mills is very much YA contemporary. She's not HUGE, but I feel like she is fairly well known by YA readers. I am a big fan. I actually have this book, and am trying to control myself, though I will probably read it soon.
