Stuffed Animal Saturday: #scandal - Sarah Ockler

Stuffed Animal Saturday is a meme that we post here at We Live and Breathe Books to showcase the book we're currently reading with one of our favorite stuffed animals and discuss our stuffed animal's opinion (well, it's really our opinion, but that's besides the point). We hope you enjoy our quirky feature as much as we enjoy writing it!

This Saturday, Helga and I are reading #scandal by Sarah Ockler .

Blurb from Goodreads:

Lucy’s learned some important lessons from tabloid darling Jayla Heart’s all-too-public blunders: Avoid the spotlight, don’t feed the Internet trolls, and keep your secrets secret. The policy has served Lucy well all through high school, so when her best friend Ellie gets sick before prom and begs her to step in as Cole’s date, she accepts with a smile, silencing about ten different reservations. Like the one where she’d rather stay home shredding online zombies. And the one where she hates playing dress-up. And especially the one where she’s been secretly in love with Cole since the dawn of time.

When Cole surprises her at the after party with a kiss under the stars, it’s everything Lucy has ever dreamed of… and the biggest BFF deal-breaker ever. Despite Cole’s lingering sweetness, Lucy knows they’ll have to ’fess up to Ellie. But before they get the chance, Lucy’s own Facebook profile mysteriously explodes with compromising pics of her and Cole, along with tons of other students’ party indiscretions. Tagged. Liked. And furiously viral.

By Monday morning, Lucy’s been branded a slut, a backstabber, and a narc, mired in a tabloid-worthy scandal just weeks before graduation.

Lucy’s been battling undead masses online long enough to know there’s only one way to survive a disaster of this magnitude: Stand up and fight. Game plan? Uncover and expose the Facebook hacker, win back her best friend’s trust, and graduate with a clean slate.

There’s just one snag—Cole. Turns out Lucy’s not the only one who’s been harboring unrequited love...

So far:

I just finished my last book right before I went to sleep, so I am only on page one of this book. Therefore, not much to say yet. I will mention why I am reading this book, though. I am a big fan of Ocular's work. So far, I have read three of her books, and they were 4 and 5 star reads for me. Ocular is another contemporary writer, who I can depend upon to deliver the type of story I will like. I was excited to see #scandal was one of the free reads on Riveted, and that pretty much solidified my decision to read this book.

Are you and your stuffed animal reading anything interesting?
Let us know in your own Stuffed Animal Saturday!

  1. I liked this book! It was different and very enjoyable overall. Ockler's books have really worked for me. I think The Book of Broken Hearts is my favorite. :D I hope you enjoy the rest of this book, Sam!

    Have a fantastic weekend. =)

    1. It's really fun, and I am enjoying being inside Lucy's head. The Veronica Mars/Keith thing makes me smile too, because I am such a VMars fangirl. I love that Ockler is so diverse. This is my 4th book by her, and they are very different from each other.
I hope you have a great weekend too!

  2. I'm curious what you end up thinking about this one. It was one that I was borderline on reading. Fun meme too!

Thanks for stopping by my weekly update!

    1. I liked it. I thought the MC was smart and sassy and lived up to her VMars references. There was a lot more going on there then the actual scandal, and I was totally onboard with all the social commentary. Definitely solidified my love for Ockler. A 4-star read for me.
