Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

In a Nutshell Reviews are my version of mini-reviews, because sometimes, you just want the highlights. Last week I was searching for books on the lighter side, because my life seems to be playing out like a dystopian novel. I was happy to pull both of these oldies, but goodies, from my shelves, and both were hits!

Bring on the puppy piles and unicorn kisses! I can't imagine there are many out there, who are not looking for a little lift right now. I won't lie, and say that I am "ok", because I'm not. It's tough times right now. Worrying about our loved ones, our health, our country, and our world. For most, their normal day-to-day has ceased to exist, and it's in times like this, that I appreciate the escape a book gives me. I have made no secret of the fact, that I often flee life via my books, and tend to read certain types of books in search of that exact thing.
This week, we were supposed to build a list around a certain genre, but I wanted to talk about books that make me happy. When I think about books that bring me joy, they are usually super cute and low drama. Then, there is my love for romance books. They always make me happy, because seeing someone find their HEA never fails to make my heart soar. I also adore seeing someone achieve something great, be it a small or big success. Because of that, I gravitate to sports books. I love having someone to root for and cheer on.
I honestly have a LOT of fun and happy books on my read shelf, but as always, I want to try and feature newer releases.
This is one of those topics, which I thought would be simple, but it wasn't. Apparently, I do not read many books with single word titles. I have to say, I do admire authors, who are able to boil their book down to one word, and really have it fit. Maybe that's why I don't have too many single word titles on my read shelf. Because of that, I had to go back further than I normally do, but I was able to find some great books with succinct titles to share with you this week.
My love of a book usually relies heavily on my love of the characters. All of these books featured multiple stand-out characters, who I was naturally drawn to, and wanted to get to know better.
I love a good challenge, and I had fun combing my read shelves looking for book titles featuring numbers. You would think there are numbers everywhere, right? Wrong. I guess I don't read a lot of books with numeric titles, but here are some I throughly enjoyed.

We have a character freebie this week, and I decided to highlight books featuring characters from my home state. I was never really a Jersey girl. I spent most of my early years in Brooklyn, but I went to high school and college here, and currently reside here, so technically, I am a Jersey girl. I don't do the shore, and am not a Springsteen fan, but I will rock out to Bon Jovi, and I still think big hair is great.
Once again, I was not really feeling the topic, but you all know, I love making lists. I have read over 170 books so far, and many were great, but not too many earned the full 5-stars from me. Below, are the 8 books, which have earned 5-stars from me, and two others that were so, so close, and I want to show them more love.
I started pleasure reading again back in 2013. I was mostly reading my daughter's books, and only leaving ratings on Goodreads. Then, the kid gave me a talking to about leaving my thoughts, and I started doing so. I mean, these thoughts were like a sentence. I found one early review that was just two words. I have come a long way since then. I joined WLABB at my daughter's request back in 2017, but I feel like I started reviewing my books a little more seriously after my first BEA/BookCon back in 2015. Because, I was not consistent until I joined the blog, I decided to share my first ten reviews from WLABB.
Yep! I am going off topic again, but I was thinking about this a lot lately. Last week, when we were all talking about things that make us pick up a book, I saw a few people mention small town settings. Then, I smiled, and thought, "me too". I lived in Brooklyn, NY until I was 13 (and a half), but spent the rest of my teen years in a one square mile town near Rutgers University. It was a bit of a culture shock at the time, but when I look back at that small town, I do so with some fondness for the distinguishing things about small towns. Below is a list of some YA books set in small towns, that I read and loved, and since I haven't done this topic before, I am going back as far as I want.
Have you ever read a book, and wished that you could do a Freaky Friday thing with that character? Though I have yet to find a character with a perfect life, I have encountered quite a few with perks I would love to enjoy. These are all books I have read over the past year, which I really enjoyed, and found myself envying some aspect of the main character's life.
