One Old, One New: Middle Grades Edition

One Old, One New features two books - one old, one new, which are connected in some way. Today, I am sharing two middle grades books. They explore different issues, but both are wonderful additions to a middle grades reading list.

Five Star Friday: August 2020

On the first Friday of each month, I will share my five-star reads from the previous month. Fingers crossed, I have lots of books to tell you about. I know 2020 has taken a lot from us, but I am still reading so many good books. I finished 41 books last month, and a whopping 8 earned all the stars. It's also interesting that 5 of these are new-to-me-authors, and I am positive that I will be reading more of their work. August was a good reading month. I found so many books that made me smile and left me warm and fuzzy, and for that, I am grateful.

Top Ten Tuesday: Outside YA

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Outside YA!

Today, we are supposed to highlight books we don't usually feature. WLABB was started as a YA blog, and I try to stay true to the founding bloggers vision by featuring mostly YA books. But, I do read outside of YA, and I have encountered some real gems, which I want to scream about. Without further ado, here are some brilliant middle grades books I have read, in the recent past, which deserve some of my love.

Top Ten Tuesday: They Made Me Do It!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

They Made Me Do It!

This week's topic is books I bought/borrowed because ________ (fill in the blank). I have talked about my obsession habit of searching high and low for new books, so I do feel as though I have my finger on the pulse of what's new. However, I am not always sure, if I want to commit, and read the book. Therefore, my spin on this topic is listing some books, which I was convinced to read, because of fellow book pushers. These were all wonderful, and I enjoyed them immensely. So, a big thank you for helping me decide.

Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:

Top Ten Tuesday: Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Spring TBR!

I am a HUGE fan of spring. It's a season of renewal and more moderate temperatures. It's also a season of a BILLION book releases. Seriously, look at the number of books coming out between March and June. I could never read them all, but I still want to. I have a pretty packed list of review books for those months, and I am very excited about many of them.

Top Ten Tuesday: Getting Social

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Getting Social!

This week we were supposed to talk about authors we follow on social media, but to be honest, I don't really follow too many. Since I still wanted to sort of stick with the topic, I decided to feature some YA books in which social media plays a role. The YA target audience has always known life online, and because it is such an integral part of their lives, it should be a topic featured in YA books. Many of these focus on the community and online friendship, but also show the pros and cons of life online. As always, these are books I have read and enjoyed.

Top Ten Tuesday: Standout Singles

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Standout Singles!

This is one of those topics, which I thought would be simple, but it wasn't. Apparently, I do not read many books with single word titles. I have to say, I do admire authors, who are able to boil their book down to one word, and really have it fit. Maybe that's why I don't have too many single word titles on my read shelf. Because of that, I had to go back further than I normally do, but I was able to find some great books with succinct titles to share with you this week.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books Make Great Gifts!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Books Make Great Gifts!

When I was reflecting on this topic, I realized how lucky I am. First of all, I prefer electronic copies of books, so I don't get sad about not getting physical ARCs and whatnot (though, some of those boxes are amazing). Then, I am lucky enough to get a lot of new and newer releases via NetGalley, Edelweiss, and my public library system. Therefore, I struggle with the original topic, but I thought of listing some of the ARC requests I was rejected for, so maybe if someone is looking for a gift for me, they can keep these books in mind. Without further ado, here are some books I was rejected for, but still want to read.

Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here at WLABB, I put a little twist on CWW by featuring an upcoming release along side a backlist book or a "newly discovered" book I am looking forward to reading.

This week I can't wait for:
