Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! Hope you are are enjoying the weekend. I am excited because I worked my last day in office for the year on Thursday. I had to do the farewell tour though we will be back in a few weeks. I am already relishing all my free time and spending the money I will save on train fare.

I was happy to finally find something for my daughter for Christmas. I don't mind giving her money, but I also like to have something for her to open. I think I have chosen wisely. I know my mother will like her gift and dad gets cash. He likes to do scratch offs, and every time I buy them, they are losers.

I have been doing some research and found some exercises to strengthen my foot. With the extra time, I can try some of those. Hopefully I can get some relief from the pain in my foot. It's been two years since my surgery, and it still hurts. That's not right. I am also trying to do more for my shoulder. Although PT helped increase my range of motion, I still have a lot of pain. And NOW, I am pretty sure I have tennis elbow or something going on in my right arm. Aging is no fun.

I am also excited to try out some new recipes. I always kept it simple because what I brought to work needed to store and travel well, but now I can go all out. Maybe have more variety in my life.

This is crazy! Poor bear!

Stacking the Shelves

I got some great titles this week. PS I Hate You was on my TBR, so I welcomed the invite, and I adored Corrello's previous book and cannot wait to read 32 Days in May. Crash Landing was read-now, and I couldn't resist. It sounds like a fun one. I already had Temple of Swoon, but I like getting invited anyhow, and Playing Flirty is new to me, but sounds like another fun one for the TBR.

Read Last Week

My week started with my favorite read of the week - Is She Really Going Out with Him. This was a legit rom-com which also gave me lots of feels. I laughed, I swooned, I shed a few tears. It was great. Cousens' books just keep getting better and better.

Higgins and Backman's books were great, too. I have grown to expect high quality from them, and they did not let me down. Higgins' book was told with her signature charm and humor, but it was really emotional too. She took on quite a taboo topic and did it so well.

I am just starting both of these books, but please look at those covers next to each other. A lot of similarities there.

  1. A Festive Feud seems like the perfect book for this season. I have a couple I want to read for the Ho ho ho Read a Thon, I'll add this one in case my library has it.

  2. I hope your exercises will be successful! It must be heaven not to have to commute/go to the office for a month and a half.

Glad your invites have been better targeted lately...

    Seriously, that bear!

  3. I love new recipes. I tried one this week, semifreddo. It was good.
I hope the exercises help. I've been buying Christmas presents since March when I see something that I think someone will like. lol

    1. You are so good! I always start holiday shopping late. It doesn't have the urgency that it did when my daughter was small and I was worried about getting a hot item.

  4. I'm so happy for you to have extra time and cash now! That is awesome! And getting older is the hardest thing ever-everything just seems to start breaking down!

  5. Yay for not having to commute! I think it'll free up so much time and alleviate a lot of stress. I hope you see some results with your PT. Don't give up. It really does help! For a long time it didn't feel like I was making any progress and then it starts to kick in.

    1. I don't have a ton of stress but more time will be amazing. I won't pay for more PT (I have spent over $400 already), but I some of the exercises. I am not sure if they are helping.

  6. Ugh, I'm sorry you're in pain - sometimes it seems like nothing helps! But maybe with your free time, you'll find exercises that work for you.

  7. That poor bear! I had surgery on both of my feet about 12 years ago. At the same time, because I am an idiot. One foot is great and the other has hurt ever since. I hope that you can get the problem figured out. Yay for finding some Christmas gifts already and not having to go into the office. Have a great week!

    1. I feel like that bear could be me with his bad luck. I heard doing both at once is the best thing, but too bad it only worked on one. My surgeries were 25 years apart. I thought that might have something to do with it (I weigh more, am old), but then there's your story.

  8. My old boss used to say "Getting old ain't for sissies." It was funny at the time, now it's just a fact. It's like, it's always something. Lately my big issue is severe leg cramps at night. So now I try to do stretches every night before bed. Geez. I really loved This Used to Be Us by Carlino.

    1. Ain't that the truth, Tanya. Leg cramps while you sleep must be terrible and also, affect your sleep. The stretching is always good when you reach our age. Gotta keep those muscles long.

  9. Gosh, I hate to hear that your foot is still causing you pain. I hope the exercises you found will make a difference! Yay for finding the perfect gift! I did a little Christmas shopping yesterday, but I still have more to do. I keep seeing great reviews for Cousens newest book.
