Top Ten Tuesday: I Meant to Read That

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

I Meant to Read That!

Every year, there are a BILLION books I hope to read, but it's impossible to get to them all. However, there are those books, which I really, really still want to read, even if I'm late to the party. I had previously talked about books I missed in 2018, and I am appending the following 10 must-read-this-year books to that list.
  • The Varlet and the Voyeur by Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway - I love this series and I just need to make time to read the latest book.
  • The Accidentals by Sarina Bowen - I love Bowen, this was a CWW pick for me, I bought this book, but yeah, unread.
  • The Emerald Sea by Richelle Mead - I really enjoyed the first two books in the series, and purchased the book, in order to encourage myself to finish the series, but you know, cracks and slips and what not.
  • The Chase by Elle Kennedy - A new book set in the Briar U world, yes please. I even pre-ordered it, and yet, it's on this list.
  • Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis - I have nothing but love for Shalvis and this series, which I have been recklessly reading out of order, but I can't read a book I don't have.
  • From You to Me by K.A. Holt - I read another Holt book, House Arrest, and that really increased my desire to read this one. The good news is I can borrow this from my library.
  • The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker - I was rejected for this ARC, and I suffered such FOMO as one after another, the fantastic reviews started rolling out. I definitely still want to read this.
  • Hooked On You by Kate Meader - This is a quite a tragic tale. I had a galley of this from NG. I downloaded the book, but when I went to read it, it was nowhere to be found. It must have been an Amazon glitch, because all the books I downloaded on that date were MIA. Unfortunately, I was slightly behind, and this book had been archived, so I was SOL. I still want to read it, though, because I enjoyed the series, and this was the final book.
  • Clara Voyant by Rachel Delaney - I regretted not requesting this book, because I heard nothing by great things about it. I hope to get to it this year, because it sounds wonderful.
  • When the Beat Drops by Anna Hecker - This a way past due ARC, but I love the sound of it, and think I will enjoy it a lot. I will probably feature it in a One Old, One New post, when I get to some books featuring musical MCs.

What books did you mean
to read in 2018, but didn't?

  1. Aw I feel for you with being frustrated for being rejected for a highly anticipated ARC!! I hope you still get a chance to read that one soon though *flails* SO many books and way not enough reading time. 😍

    1. I caved and bought the book. Now I just need to free up my schedule.

  2. Isn’t it weird that we’re excited enough to preorder books, but then we don’t read them? That happened to me with Bridge of Clay. I hope you get a chance to read these soon!

    1. The kiss of death, for me, is buying the book. If I get it as a review book or a library loan, I feel an urgency to read it, that is absent, when I have the luxury of reading it anytime I want.

  3. I hope you've the opportunity to read all of these books this year. There are so many books we wish to read, but there isn't enough time to do it. I'm so sorry the ARC for The Simple Wild was denied to you. When I'm rejected an ARC I'm dying to read, when I finally get the book it takes me a long time to feel like reading it.

    Happy readings! ;)

    1. I have had my share of high profile rejections. Usually, I can get the books from the library, but no luck with Tucker. I bought it last night though, so hopefully, I will be reading it soon.

  4. OMG how haven't you read The Chase? Hope you do get to read The Simple Wild. It was fantastic in every way.

    1. Because I am human trash! Seriously, I was knee deep in review books last year. I am in a much better place this year, and will read more of my own books. Maybe I will do a One Old, One New when the next book comes out. And, I purchased The Simple Wild last night. So, hopefully soon, it will be read.

  5. I need to read more from Mead. I hope you enjoy these when you get to them.

    1. The series was interesting, and the stories are happening concurrently, but they are layered in such a way, that they are not repetitive.

  6. I'm sorry you got the boot on the K.A. Tucker ARC! I've had that happen SO many times! FOMO is so real in that moment. It's been years since I've read any books by Mead. I never got into The Glittering Court series or the Bloodlines series. I guess deep down I just want more Vampire Academy books :)

    1. Bloodlines is probably still my favorite of her series. The characters just won me over in that one.

  7. You must read The Simple Wild! I loved that one and I regretted I didn't request it after seeing all the reviews come in. I borrowed it from the library but I just bought a copy because I loved it so much.

Kate Meader's was a nice wrap up to the series, with updates on all the couples, but it wasn't my favorite installment. Bummer when there's glitches.

    1. I one-clicked Simple Wild last night. FOMO and peer pressure win! LOL! My eLibrary doesn't have it, and I have access to 4 different online sources. --sigh-- Now I have it. Let's see how long it takes me to read it.

    1. I heard really great things about Clara and it looks like it would be right up my ally. I may have to check the physical library on that one, because NONE of the online libraries I access have the book.

  11. It just shows that there's so many good books out there and not enough time. If someone who reads over 300 books a year can't get to them all, what hope is there for us mortals who can only manage 100?

Hope you can get to these soon.

  17. I *really* need to read the rest of Elle's Off Campus series and then dive into the Briar U series. I adore her so I don't know what the hold-up is. I'm dying for you to read The Simple Wild. That one made such an impact on me.

    1. I finished the Off Campus books last year. It was a solid series for me. I one-clicked The Simple Wild last night. So, soon. I will read it soon

  18. I loved The Accidentals and the Shalvis book is good as well. I have had a book or two that I know I downloaded but somehow wasn't in my account when I went to read the book. I also have a book that shows up but will not download anymore - thank goodness I had that one on my old kindle and could still read it.

    1. Now I check my kindle after every download. It seems like it was isolated to that day, but it was really frustrating. I was able to get a few of the books from the library, but not all of them

  19. So many books to read, so little time. I really enjoyed the Tucker book. It was nice. I also need to read that final book in the Mead series. Hope you find time to get to as many as you can!

  20. We are not alone, it appears! LOL I get so excited about some books, request them, buy or borrow them, and then... they're still waiting for me to read them. I don't know what that is. I think you did good to keep your list this low. Mine would stretch quite a bit longer.

  21. It really is hard, and then we have reader mood swings. I can count on one hand the romances (straight contemporary) I read last year. I have been on a serious urban, fantasy, paranormal and thriller kick. I did read Tucker and Mead...both were good!

  25. I meant to read so many books and I forgot about The Accidentals until I saw this post and it's unread on my Kindle. I still need to buy The Simple Wild and The Chase. Why did so many books come out that I haven't got to reading?

    1. It's a cool historical fantasy, and I like the way the three women's books overlap without being repetitive.

  27. I totally meant to read The Chase as well....oh and The Goal LOL!!!! I don't know why I can't start The Goal. It's the strangest thing. Was it a pretty good read?! Great post!!! Hopefully you can get to these soon!

    1. I have to read a spinoff for a reading challenge, so maybe that will light a fire under me to read The Chase. I liked The Goal. It was interesting, because it overlapped, time wise, with Dean's book, and we get to fill in a few gaps there. Kennedy also gave a nice wrap up for all four of the boys at the end, and I was left very happy.

  30. I hope that you will be able to read a lot of these, if not all of them this year instead! It can be hard to find the time to read all the books we want to read. I haven't read more from my backlist titles and I wanted to read Song for Achilles! Hopefully soon >>

  32. It’s such a heavy sigh of disappointment when you don’t receive an arc. I feel for you Sam. Two books I really wanted to read last year were Trail of Lightning, a post-apocalyptic world and Pestilence, dystopian world with one of The Four Horsemen. ❤️❤️
