Twelve stories. Twelve months. Once chance to heal her heart...
When Tilly Nightingale receives a call telling her there’s a birthday gift from her fiancĂ© waiting for her at her local bookshop, it couldn’t come as more of a shock. Partly because she can’t remember the last time she read a book for pleasure. Mainly because Joe died five months ago… The gift is simple – twelve carefully-chosen books from Joe, one for each month, to help her turn the page on her first year without him.
Tilly sets out on a series of reading-inspired adventures that take her around the world. But as she begins to vlog her journey, her story becomes more than her own. With help from Alfie, the bookshop owner, her budding new following and her friends and family, can Tilly’s year of books show her how to love again?
It had been six months since her husband's passing when Tilly received a call from the Book Lane Bookshop. Before his death, her husband arranged for a special gift - one book a month for year. Though initially caught by surprise, Tilly began to look forward to these books which which were a huge source of comfort and healing as Tilly learned to navigate a world without her Joe.
Anyone who knows me is aware of my penchant for grief and loss books. I cannot express how much it helps me to see someone be able to suffer a great loss and comeback from it. Page did a beautiful job exploring and conveying the emotions Tilly was feeling. I was crying right along with Tilly each month when she received her new book with a letter from Joe. These letters were lovely and encouraging, and each book they accompanied served a purpose as Tilly's heart slowly healed and she began to live again.
It was wonderful and sometimes painful to experience Tilly's flashbacks, but I appreciated getting to see her and Joe's love story unfold. I also adored that this gift of 12 books brought the people of Book Lane Bookshop into Tilly's life. The owner, Alfie, was someone who understood grief as he still felt the loss of his father every day. He became an invaluable confidant, who along with Tilly's sister and friend provided endless support while Tilly began to shed her grief and look towards her future.
This was a touching and emotional story of love, loss, healing, and friendship which was also a love letter to books. I am sure all readers will enjoy the book references and may even share the characters' fondness and belief in the power of books. Overall, this book hit all the right notes for me. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me FEEL, and these are all markers of a winning book for me.

Two competing meteorologists are forced to find common ground in this opposites attract, When Harry Met Sally inspired romance, from New York Times bestselling author B.K. Borison.
Jackson Clark and Delilah Stewart have had their fair share of run-ins over the years, often ending in disaster. While Jackson thrives on routine and organization from the comfort of his radio booth, Delilah loves the spontaneity and adventure out in the field. When they’re partnered against their will to cover the snowstorm of the century, they find themselves scrambling to figure out how to work together.
Eager to be taken seriously as a journalist, Delilah offers Jackson a deal. If he can help her ace this assignment, she’ll help him rediscover his long-lost fun side. With an undiscovered chemistry burning beneath their clashes, the unlikely partnership quickly tumbles into an easy and surprising friendship.
But when other feelings start to enter the equation, can Jackson and Delilah withstand the storm? Or does what happens in the mountains, stay in the mountains?
Opposites attract in this grumpy/sunshine workplace romance. With a historic storm set to hit Maryland, Jackson and Delilah are tapped to provide on-site coverage for the TV and radio station. While in the field, they find they have a lot more in common than they thought, but would Jackson and Delilah's mountain romance be possible in everyday life?
I fell in love with this crew when I read First Time Caller, and I am excited to see this world growing. The whole radio station gang was back, and Borison expanded the cast with the addition of Jackson's family and the TV news crew. The supporting characters were wonderful, made me laugh, and added so much to this tale. I adored them all and am imagining the possible followup books that could feature them.
Delilah was not technically new to me as she made a few appearances in the last book popping up and disrupting Jackson's life. I have to admit, she was delightful. I loved this quirky and adorable woman who pushed Jackson out of his comfort zone. She was chaos where he was order, but they complemented each other so well. I loved their rapport and chemistry, and I liked that they shared problematic mothers. It really helped them understand each other, and that understanding led to something deep and meaningful.
Jackson was a star to me. I adored his nervous babbling before, and we got lots more of it here, but we also got to see what a wonderful and big-hearted person his was. Yes, he comes off as a grump, but here was a man who became the legal guardian for his twin sisters. He provided them the sort of stable home he always wanted, and he loved them dearly.
Delilah was equally kind. She was super friendly and cheerful while dealing with her own issues. One being a toxic workplace, and another being her grandfather's battle with Alzheimer's. Though both situations were tough, she put on a brave face and pushed forward, always giving her all. As chaotic as she was, she was a source of calm for Jackson, and someone he really needed in his life.
There was weather and antics and swoony times all of which brought a smile to my face. I am so in love with this Charm City world, and I cannot wait to return for more.
