Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! I was happy to see last week end. I have been really tired because our volumes are out of control at work. I don't think it's going to be slowing down, so I will just have to hang in there. Speaking of work, my accommodation is coming to an end. I have off Monday, but Tuesday, I will be back at work. My mother is still in the cast and my father just had another round of chemo, so I am hoping for the best while I am gone. I do welcome the routine though. I like schedules and routine. It helps with my anxiety. My mother is retired and has no sort of schedule which means I had no sort of schedule for the past 2 months. It was hard and put me off balance.

Yesterday, we went to a memorial for my old neighbor from Brooklyn who was a dear friend of my parents. She passed away in May but didn't want a funeral, so they did the memorial instead. It was nice to see so many people I grew up with from the old neighborhood, and it was amazing how many people attended the service (over 100!). I was impressed with my muscle memory too. The church workout never leaves you. I always knew when to sit, stand, and kneel.

Other than that, it's been summer, so I hate the weather. I think I am the rare person that wishes for overcast days, but think about how much cooler it could be. I love sunny skies...when it's cold, but not now.

I keep trying to find new sneakers. I hate ordering online and the ones I have for working out are no longer sold. I am hoping for the best. As for new shoes, I ordered another pair of Birkenstocks. They are the only shoes that don't aggravate my foot. I ordered the London which is a closed shoe which will be good for the fall. I have two pairs of clogs already (lined and unlined) and am eyeing the ones with a back strap. Though, if the London works out, they also sell it lined which could be a good option for the cooler weather. I have to paced myself since Birkenstocks are not cheap.

Stacking the Shelves

I won't lie, when I got that email from Sarina Bowen saying her new book was Read Now on Netgalley, I ran, I did not walk, to download it. Looks great! I bought a book from my TBR that was on sale. The Friendship Fling has good reviews and sounds like a lot of fun. I always need fun in my life. The other three books were invited. An Academic Affair is appeals to me and with it being a November release, I do have room in my schedule.

Read Last Week

This was an amazing reading week. Not one. Not two. But THREE five star books.

I was not surprised that The Seven O'Clock Club scored high with me because of my love for grief and loss books, but this one had a fantastic twist that really tugged at my heartstrings. The new Shalvis was a big win as well, but again, no surprise because I adore her books.  What did surprise me was how much I enjoyed Half a Chance. This is an older book that I listened to for my New Hampshire prompt. It was sweet and touching, and the author did a beautiful job with some very sensitive topics. This was a gem.
