Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Rebel
Marie Lu
Series: Legend, #4
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian
Publisher: Roaring Brook Press
Release Date: October 1, 2019
Goodreads
Respect the Legend. Idolize the Prodigy. Celebrate the Champion. But never underestimate the Rebel.

With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale.

Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother.

A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe―even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life.

As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own . . .
Why I want to read this book

More like, why WOULDN'T I want to read this book. The Legend series is one of my all-time favorites, but the ending left me slightly stressed. Right after I finished that last book, I needed to know what happened to June and Day. This is my chance, and I am all in to see what roadblocks Lu is putting in the way of their HEA.

Tone Deaf
Olivia Rivers
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Release Date: May 3, 2016
Goodreads
His world is music. Her world is silent.

Ali Collins was a child prodigy destined to become one of the greatest musicians of the twenty-first century—until she was diagnosed with a life-changing brain tumor. Now, at seventeen, Ali lives in a soundless world where she gets by with American Sign Language and lip-reading. She’s a constant disappointment to her father, a retired cop fighting his own demons, and the bruises are getting harder to hide.

When Ali accidentally wins a backstage tour with the chart-topping band Tone Deaf, she’s swept back into the world of music. Jace Beckett, the nineteen-year-old lead singer of the band, has a reputation. He’s a jerk and a player, and Ali wants nothing to do with him. But there’s more to Jace than the tabloids let on. When Jace notices Ali’s bruises and offers to help her escape to New York, Ali can’t turn down the chance at freedom and a fresh start. Soon she’s traveling cross-country, hidden away in Jace’s RV as the band finishes their nationwide tour. With the help of Jace, Ali sets out to reboot her life and rediscover the music she once loved.
Why I want to read this book

I put this book on my TBR back in 2016, but didn't purchase it until last year. There are just so many things in that synopsis that speak to me. There's Ali dealing with a HUGE life change, and also wanting to start again. I love the idea of her being on tour (ROAD TRIP!) and looking for a way to rediscover her love of music. Sounds hopeful and emotional, and I love that stuff.

  3. The ending of the Legend series left me super stressed too, but I'm also not sure about this series revival. Are we getting more books in the series? I'll probably wait to read them!

    1. There was something beautiful about it, because of a comment June had made earlier questioning their connection since it was formed under such dire connections, but so much was unknown. I think there are going to be 3 more books with the focus being on Day's brother.

  4. The Legend Trilogy-Now-Series is one of my favorites of all-time too! It's one of the books that made me interested in dystopia and I agree without you regarding Champion's ending. A part of me was "okay so we gotta use our imagination now" and the other was "WHAT? NO! I WANT MORE!". When Rebel was announced, I was so happy. I didn't even mind if it was just a novella if it means I'd get more of June and Day.

    1. It hit me in the feels for two reasons. One, because of what June said, about if they would have fallen in love had they not been under such dire circumstances, and two, because we don't know what happened. I just need to know how it all worked out.

  18. Both of these books sound great same! I've heard great things about the Legend Series! Tone Death sounds like my kind of read. I enjoy a good rockstar romance, and this one sounds unique. Ali sounds like she's dealing with so much, and she would be interesting to read about.

    1. Tone Deaf is interesting in that, yes, the hero is a rock star, but it's more about the connection they form as victims of abuse. The heroine has a great backstory too, and I hope the author utilizes it more

    1. I think Tone Deaf came out in 2016, and it's been on my shelf quite a while. It paired well with The Silence Between Us. It has more depth than I expected too.

  21. Tone Deaf sounds intriguing! I have hearing loss, so I always wonder what it would be like to be completely deaf. I also like books about music. :)

    1. The author gave the heroine a great backstory as a musical prodigy, who loses her hearing due to a brain tumor. I hope I get to see more of this musical past bleed into her present.

I haven't read anything by Marjorie Lu before... I see this series around and I'm tempted but not enough to take the plunge.
I hope you enjoy them both!

    1. Tone Deaf was good. It was that sort of teen romance drama, that keeps me turning the pages. I just wish the author had utilized the heroine's backstory more, because it was a great setup, but totally under utilized.
