Top Ten Tuesday - Last Ten Books I've Acquired

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Here at We Live and Breathe Books, two of us choose five books each week. This weeks topic is...

Last ten books I've acquired!

Kiersten's Picks

Persuasion
Martina Boone
Heirs of Watson Island, #2
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

This was the most exciting book that I've acquired recently! If you saw my review (and giveaway) of Compulsion or my Waiting on Wednesday for Persuasion or my Top Ten Tuesday post for most anticipated releases for the second half of 2015, then you know I really wanted this book. I requested it on Edelweiss in hopes of getting approved, and I actually shouted out of excitement when I saw the email that I was approved. I'm definitely eager to read this one!

The Young Elites
Marie Lu
The Young Elites, #1

In the past month or so, I've started getting books from the eLibrary. Even though you have to wait a long time for some of the books, it's kind of worth it since some ebooks are really expensive. The Young Elites is my most recent library read, and it was awesome! I can't wait for The Rose Society to come out so I can find out what happens.

Red Queen
Victoria Aveyard
Red Queen, #1
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

My mom also uses the eLibrary to get books, and since we have a joint Amazon account, we share the books we get from the library. My mom has waited for months to get Red Queen, so obviously I'll be reading it too. I'm excited to see what all the hype is about!

The Lost Herondale
Cassandra Clare & Robin Wasserman
Shadowhunter Academy, #2
Goodreads | Amazon

One thing I love about the eLibrary is that they've been getting all the Shadowhunter Academy novellas. I know this is kind of a touchy subject, but it pains me to spend $3 on a novella that's less than a hundred pages. I'm not knocking the work that goes into the stories, but I just don't feel like I'm getting my moneys worth, especially when after all ten novellas come out they'll be bundled for $10 (aka 1/3 of the price of getting them individually as they release). Anyway, I got super excited about the possibility of more Herondales, so I ended up putting this one on reserve and reading it before the first novella. Luckily, it didn't seem like I had missed that much in the first story, but I will be reading it soon (hopefully).

Fire & Flood
Victoria Scott
Fire & Flood, #1

Since I have so many books from BEA, a Kindle Unlimited membership, access to the eLibrary, and so many ebooks from various Kindle sales over the past few years, I've been trying to buy less books just for the sake of a good deal. Fire & Flood is the most recent Kindle deal I've purchased because it looks really interesting. I'm always up for a good dystopia!

Noor's Picks

So I'm not really an ebook person like Kiersten -- I had my parents buy me an eReader for a birthday or holiday forever ago and used it very few times and have like four things on it -- so until I read her half of this post I completely forgot that I downloaded three poetry books onto the Kindle app on my phone because there was this readCOLOR Kindle event with the books celebrating the anniversary of the books so that's why three of these books are poetry books and also why they're ebooks since it's a very uncommon thing for me to read not-physical copies of things (not very uncommon for me to read poetry though).

Go Set a Watchman
Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockingbird, #2
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

So technically I haven't acquired this book yet, because it comes out July 14th, but it's been preordered and I'll have it the day this post is published so I'm counting it. I'm sure everyone's excited for this book, whether you first read To Kill a Mockingbird as a required reading for English class but found it an endearing story (like me) or you read it on your own and thought it was heartwarming/breaking or whether you never read it at all. Maybe you hated it, maybe you loved it, in any case, there's so much buzz surrounding this ~65 year old manuscript and I can't wait!

All the Bright Places
Jennifer Niven
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

I picked this up the other day at, of all places, Target. I was just innocently strolling along when all of a sudden I spot a YA book aisle. Of course I wanted to buy a lot more than one book but 1. my mother was on my case about all the unread books I have and 2. I haven't gotten shelves for my new room yet so I have nowhere to put books yet -- I haven't even unpacked the ones I brought, theyre in the garage (I just shuddered writing that, I hate the garage). Anyway, this book looks so good and I want to read it right now.

salt.
Nayyiray Waheed
Goodreads | Amazon | Book Depository

This is one of the ebooks I mentioned in my little paragraph beneath my "Noor's picks" header but above my first choice of book, as are the next two books. Nayyirah Waheed gives off such an ethereal vibe, in her social media presence and in her writing and this work was the bomb dot com. Definitely worth reading, even if you're not usually a poetry type person. If you appreciate the command of language, check out her work.

Nejma
Nayyirah Waheed
Goodreads | Amazon

I think Nejma came after salt. but don't quote me on that. In any case, I got this at the same time and read it a while after (a few weeks) and felt it fill my lungs. I love the cover, I love the contents, I love the author. It's a beautiful piece of work. I highly recommend following Nayyirah Waheed's social media accounts if you enjoy her. I personally love her Instagram -- she posts a lot of her work on there and updates frequently.

Zimbabwe
Tapiwa Mugabe
Goodreads | Amazon

Described as "[introducing] a fresh and bold voice into the rich current that is emerging from young African millennial artists" on Goodreads, this is the third poetry book that i mentioned and Mugabe's first poetry collection. I actually haven't read this one yet and I'm going to be honest and say it's because it's digital and I forget about things that aren't physically in front of me because I'm spacey to a fault but now that I've remembered it I'm probably going to read it soon.

    1. I really liked it but I can see how someone might be on the fence. I loved how dark Adelina was - it kind of reminded me a little of Celaena from Throne of Glass.
