Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for

Tired Ladies Take a Stand

You've heard of Year of Yes. Introducing... Year of No.

During one unforgettable year in their twenties, best friends Emma, Fern, Carolina, and Andi make a pact to embrace whatever life throws at them, inspiring Fern to write a memoir detailing their escapades and the magical power of saying Yes.

But fast forward twenty years and they have reached their bandwidth of responsibilities. Fern is a full-time writer struggling to pay the bills. Carolina is a fitness-obsessed workaholic. Andi is a disillusioned human rights lawyer. And Emma is a stressed-out divorcée in the thick of planning her daughter’s wedding. To reconnect to the fun, fulfilled women they were before, they must learn how to stop saying Yes to everything asked of them. And so begins the "Year of No."

Heartfelt, emotionally perceptive and sharply funny, Tired Ladies Take a Stand celebrates the bonds of female friendship and women reclaiming their autonomy in a world that expects them to do it all.

This title made me add this book to my TBR. Seriously, if there is anything I can identify with, it's being a tired lady. It's also great that this is about embracing NO. I just saw this reel of the Olsen twins saying, "No is a full sentence." This is great advice, and I do find I am better at embracing this as I grow older. With this, I am very excited to read about fictional women leaning into saying no.

Funny Feeling

When falling in love is the punchline…

Farley Jones is a loud, chaotic, and hilariously clever standup comedian on the way to stardom. The only thing she loves more than the rush of telling jokes in front of a revved-up audience is her hot older manager Meyer, though he doesn’t have a clue. Keeping her feelings hidden from him is agony (a tragedy, even―in lieu of flowers, please send cash...) but Meyer has been Farley’s closest and most treasured friend, not to mention vital to the trajectory of her career. She can’t risk ruining their relationship by telling him how she truly feels. After all, who else would have the patience to put up with a hot mess like her?

A former standup star himself, single father Meyer Harrigan left the stage years ago in order to focus on raising his deaf daughter Hazel. Farley has been everything to them since she came into their lives three years ago, and despite his grumpiness, his protectiveness over Hazel, and his disdain for public attention, Meyer will do anything to make her standup dreams come true.

When the biggest opportunity of Farley’s career comes along and forces the pair to fake-date in order to stir up publicity, it doesn't take long for their act to bring all those other funny feelings out into the open. Like most matters of the heart, it quickly begins to feel like anything but a joke.

Touching on the creative spirit and all that comes with sharing that gift, Tarah DeWitt's Funny Feelings is a swoony story about friendship, love, and looking for the laugh in life.

I bought this book back in May 2022. I kept meaning to read it, but you all know how I avoid my own books. I recently read Dewitt's upcoming release, Savor It. I loved it so much! That along with my monthly keyword being "funny" helped pushed this one up the TBR. It also sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I mean, it features comics, but it has some great tropes too - fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, and single dad. I am confident Dewitt will deliver a stupendous story for me.

    1. I am about 60% through, and I love it. It features comics, so it funny, but I am also onboard with this couple.

  2. I am a tired lady as well, and one of my life mottos is "no is a complete sentence." So far it's not working very well with Henry, but I'm trying!

  4. There were so many titles on my TBR that published last week, so I'm overwhelmed with choices. I'm working trough them, but it will take some time. A new John Sandford and CJ Tudor or my priorities, but I also just got the new Salman Rushdie.

    1. It's a lot like the upcoming one. There are few great, what do they call it, "clench" covers. The book was great, too. I finished it this morning.

  6. I think women need to learn to say "No". I ran myself ragged trying to be everything to everyone, always saying yes. I am interested in reading Tired Women take a Stand.

    1. It's so common for women to be the "caregiver" to everyone. As I age, I lean into NO more.
