Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for

Beverly Bonnefinche is Dead
 by Kristen Seeley
Published by Rising Action Publishing Co. on September 1, 2023
Age/Genres: Adult, Fiction
Goodreads

Socially awkward, anxiety-riddled Beverly Bonnefinche only loves three things in life: her parents, books, and a homeless man named Bill. Without them, the only way Beverly manages to get by each day is with the help of a peculiar coping mechanism that allows her to dissolve her feelings.

Yet everything changes for Beverly when she meets Henry, a persistent, friendly man who sees something in Beverly most people have missed. As their relationship develops, despite her best intentions, Beverly soon finds herself stepping outside of her carefully controlled life and forging new friendships.

It’s only when a series of twists and turns threatens to unravel her new life, and her mind, that Beverly must determine if she’s got it in her to stop trudging through life—and finally start living it.

Uplifting and emotional, Beverly Bonnefinche is Dead is an unforgettable story of love, loss, friendship, and what it means to ultimately find the courage to be who you are.

Honestly? The title of this book grabbed my attention. I immediately wanted to know a bit more about Beverly, and after reading the synopsis, I am positive that I want to take this journey with her. Beverly is described as socially awkward and dealing with anxiety, but she meets someone who makes her want to take a chance and embark on friendship with him. Described as a story of love, loss, and friendship, I have a good feeling that this book will warm my heart and make me smile.

South of Buttonwood Tree
 by Heather Webber
Published by Forge on July 21, 2020
Age/Genres: Adult, Enchanted Realism, Fiction
Goodreads

Blue Bishop has a knack for finding lost things. While growing up in charming small-town Buttonwood, Alabama, she's happened across lost wallets, jewelry, pets, her wandering neighbor, and sometimes, trouble. No one is more surprised than Blue, however, when she comes across an abandoned newborn baby in the woods, just south of a very special buttonwood tree.

Sarah Grace Landreneau Fulton is at a crossroads. She has always tried so hard to do the right thing, but her own mother would disown her if she ever learned half of Sarah Grace's secrets.

The unexpected discovery of the newborn baby girl will alter Blue's and Sarah Grace's lives forever. Both women must fight for what they truly want in life and for who they love. In doing so, they uncover long-held secrets that reveal exactly who they really are--and what they're willing to sacrifice in the name of family.

I have been enjoying all these magical books so much! I was excited to read my first Heather Webber book, and it was such a hit that I am now working through her backlist. Blue is a finder, but it seems like some big things are coming when she finds a newborn baby in the woods. The synopsis teases of secrets, family, and sacrifices, and I definitely am interested in the full story.

  2. Carole has the right idea about working through the backlog. I'm always distracted by the shiny new books I see everyone else reviewing. I still have so many unread gems waiting on my shelves!

    1. It's a fun way to make myself read backlist book, though I have been much better since discovering so many new-to-me authors and delving into their backlists.

    1. I think I found her through GR links when looking for books like Sarah Addison Allen's. Her books share a lot of the things I adore about Allen's books.

    1. I finished Webber's book this morning. It was wonderful! The magical bits were pretty cool, the family secrets ran deeper than I anticipated, and the town was so lovely.

  7. The fabulism aspect is new to me Sam but you make it sound delightful (PS it's Sophie from Beware of the Reader but it seems my phone does not know my avatar as my computer does 🤣)

    1. Fabulism is what many refer to as "magical realism". My understanding of magical realism is that it's related to works by Latine authors and involves a more political focus. It's simply books set in the real world with magical touches.

  8. The title of that first one is definitely an attention grabber!
