Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Six Angry Girls
Adrienne Kisner
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Release Date: June 2, 2020
Goodreads
A story of mock trial, feminism, and the inherent power found in a pair of knitting needles.

Raina Petree is crushing her senior year, until her boyfriend dumps her, the drama club (basically) dumps her, the college of her dreams slips away, and her arch-nemesis triumphs.

Things aren’t much better for Millie Goodwin. Her father treats her like a servant, and the all-boy Mock Trial team votes her out, even after she spent the last three years helping to build its success.

But then, an advice columnist unexpectedly helps Raina find new purpose in a pair of knitting needles and a politically active local yarn store. This leads to an unlikely meeting in the girls’ bathroom, where Raina inspires Millie to start a rival team. The two join together and recruit four other angry girls to not only take on Mock Trial, but to smash the patriarchy in the process.
Why I want to read this book

So many reasons, chief among them that I can feel the grrrl-power from here, and I am all about that. Not only does the feminist angle appeal to me, but I want to know more about all the young women mentioned in the synopsis. They sound like they are having a tough time, and there is nothing I love more, than to root for an underdog. Oh, and mock trial. Love that! Want to read about it! Also, I keep getting a 12 Angry Men feel, and well, that was a stupendous film.

Defending Taylor
Miranda Kenneally
Series: Hundre Oaks, #6
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Release Date: July 5, 2016
Goodreads
There are no mistakes in love.

Captain of the soccer team, president of the Debate Club, contender for valedictorian: Taylor's always pushed herself to be perfect. After all, that's what is expected of a senator's daughter. But one impulsive decision-one lie to cover for her boyfriend-and Taylor's kicked out of private school. Everything she's worked so hard for is gone, and now she's starting over at Hundred Oaks High.

Soccer has always been Taylor's escape from the pressures of school and family, but it's hard to fit in and play on a team that used to be her rival. The only person who seems to understand all that she's going through is her older brother's best friend, Ezra. Taylor's had a crush on him for as long as she can remember. But it's hard to trust after having been betrayed. Will Taylor repeat her past mistakes or can she score a fresh start?

The Defending Taylor ebook will have a bonus Catching Jordan short story about Jordan and Sam Henry called Touchdown!
Why I want to read this book

I started this series back in 2014, and now, I will read my final book (Yes, I read out of order). This is bittersweet for me people, but I am so happy I picked this series back up. Each and every book has been a delight for me, so, it's a no brainer to finish it off. I borrowed a copy of this from the library, so I hope it has the short story at the end. That is absolutely something for me to look forward to, as Kenneally has done such a wonderful job keeping us updated on what's going on with Sam and Jordan.

What are you waiting on?

  3. I love seeing you continue on with the Kenneally series. But it's sad that this is the last one. :( I hope it provides some kind of awesome update or epilogue at the end! It would be such a feel-good way to end.

    1. I want to cry, because I didn't even read the last book last, though, the finale (Coming Up for Air, which I already read) was stupendous. Kenneally did give us an epic epilogue featuring the couple who started it all, Sam and Jordan.

  4. I hope you enjoy these both when you get to them! I've been wanting to read The Hundred Oak series for a while and just haven't gotten to it.

    1. I am such a fan of the Hundred Oak books. Kenneally does that low drama, but meaningful type of YA contemporary, that I love.

    1. Her books are always so good. With the Hundred Oaks books, she always incorporates something topical from teens, and I love that she digs into her own experiences to craft these stories. I started Taylor last night, and it's as good as I expected.
