Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Most Likely
Sarah Watson
Series: Most Likely, #1
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: March 10, 2020
Goodreads
From the creator of the hit TV series The Bold Type comes an empowering and heartfelt novel about a future female president's senior year of high school.

Ava, CJ, Jordan, and Martha (listed in alphabetical order out of fairness) have been friends since kindergarten. Now they're in their senior year, facing their biggest fears about growing up and growing apart. But there's more than just college on the horizon. One of these girls is destined to become the president of the United States. The mystery, of course, is which girl gets the gig.

Is it Ava, the picture-perfect artist who's secretly struggling to figure out where she belongs? Or could it be CJ, the one who's got everything figured out...except how to fix her terrible SAT scores? Maybe it's Jordan, the group's resident journalist, who knows she's ready for more than their small Ohio suburb can offer. And don't overlook Martha, who will have to overcome all the obstacles that stand in the way of her dreams.

This is the story of four best friends who have one another's backs through every new love, breakup, stumble, and success--proving that great friendships can help young women achieve anything...even a seat in the Oval Office.
Why I want to read this book

I read about a Disney+ show with a similar premise, Diary of a Female President, but I still love the idea of this series. It's different, because the age group is a bit older, but it also focuses on the future president's friends. If there is anything I could trust Watson to do well, it's a fantastic female friendship. She has shown how well she handles that, with The Bold Type, and I am more than curious to see what she does here in YA.

Wanderlove
Kirsten Hubbard
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Delacorte Books
Release Date: March 13, 2012
Goodreads
It all begins with a stupid question:

Are you a Global Vagabond?

No, but 18-year-old Bria Sandoval wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a guided tour of Central America—the wrong one. Middle-aged tourists with fanny packs are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. When Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspokenly humanitarian sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path.

Bria's a good girl trying to go bad. Rowan's a bad boy trying to stay good. As they travel across a panorama of Mayan villages, remote Belizean islands, and hostels plagued with jungle beasties, they discover what they've got in common: both seek to leave behind the old versions of themselves. And the secret to escaping the past, Rowan’s found, is to keep moving forward.

But Bria comes to realize she can't run forever, no matter what Rowan says. If she ever wants the courage to fall for someone worthwhile, she has to start looking back.

Kirsten Hubbard lends her artistry to this ultimate backpacker novel, weaving her drawings into the text. Her career as a travel writer and her experiences as a real-life vagabond backpacking Central America are deeply seeded in this inspiring story.
Why I want to read this book

I have had this book on my TBR for several years, but what made me decide to read it was a reading challenge prompt. I needed a book with a non-western setting. Though this book starts out in Wyoming, it then takes us to Central America. That's why I am reading it, but I added to my TBR, because I love traveling via a book, and bonus points for taking me to less popular book locales.

What are you waiting on?

    1. I love the premise. I like that we will get a series too, and get to really know these women, who were instrumental in the life of the first female president of the US

    1. It's a neat story, the years leading up to the presidency, and focusing on the circle of friends that shaped her is a great angle.

    1. I love to travel through books, and to be honest, a majority of the books go to Europe. It am starting to see more non-US locals that are non-western, but not as many.

  12. Wanderlove's been on my shelf for ages until I did an unhaul in 2017 and gave it away. I actually still see the book at the bookstores I frequent. Here, it's rare to find books published before 2015 displayed so it's kinda surprising I still see this one on the stands.

    1. Wanderlust is pretty good. I started it yesterday, and this whole wandering thing becomes a way for the MC to work through some things that are holding her back at home - toxic relationships, fear of the future, etc.

  19. Most Likely has such a fun premise! I like the idea behind having to guess which friend becomes president! I can see why you were drawn to Wanderlove! I love "traveling" through reading a book :) Great picks!

    1. I am not sure if they tell you who, and that would make it even more fun. There was a TV show, Jack and Bobby, maybe, and it was about the childhood of two brothers, one of which would become president, though you didn't know which at the time. I loved the idea of it.

  20. Most Likely sounds lovely because I love books about strong friendships and it seems like we are really going to get to see friends support each other career wise as well. Yay! And as for Wanderlove I am always here for more books set in nonwestern settings :)

    1. I think Most Likely will keep the identity of the future president under wraps too, which will add a bit of mystery to the story. I am all over that
