This week I can't wait for Someone to Love!
Melissa de la Cruz

Waited on by: Sam
Constantly in the spotlight thanks to her politician father's rising star, Olivia Blakely feels the pressure to be perfect. As the youngest girl in her class, she tries hard to keep up and to seem mature to the older boy she's crushing on, even as she catches his eye. But the need to look good on camera and at school soon grows into an all-consuming struggle with bulimia.Five Reasons I want to read this book:
As Liv works toward her goal of gaining early admission to art school, including taking part in an upcoming student show, her life spirals out of control. Swept up in demands to do more than she's ready for, to always look perfect and to succeed, Liv doesn't know who she is anymore. It will take nearly losing her best friend and even her life for Liv to learn that loving herself is far more important than earning the world's approval.
- I can already tell this will be really emotional. I live for emotional reads.
- I really like when characters go through the fire and come out stronger on the other side.
- I believe de la Cruz will responsibly explore the character's bulimia, and I am interested in seeing which aspects of the disorder she employs in this story.
- The family aspect sounds like it could be quite interesting. A high profile parent always brings additional stress, and the political spotlight is a intriguing angle.
- I like de La Cruz, so why wouldn't I want to read one of her books?
What are you waiting on?

Oh yes, definitely emotional -- and you're right the family angle is going to bring something different to the story -- and pressures as well.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I want to feel someone else's pain.
DeleteI just requested an ARC for this one a few days ago because I thought the synopsis sounded so good. I agree that it sounds like it's going to be an emotional read too, which I always enjoy. I've also never read a book that focused on an eating disorder, so I'm very curious to see how the author handles that. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteThis is an ARC I know I won't get. I never get approved by HarlequinTEEN, but I still hope to read it.
DeleteI hope you love this one. I'm not sure I can handle any emotional reads right now, I'm still on a horror kick - but I may try it eventually. Hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI shockingly read a sort of spooky book the other day, Book of Lies. It was not too scary, which is probably why I was ok with it.
DeleteThis does sound like it will be an emotional read, and I think the scrutiny on politicians' families is a really timely topic.
ReplyDeleteI have always taken issue with the way a politician's family is judged, and it has bothered me since I first noticed all that (Amy Carter was the first I remember being angry about). I feel like the politician/star is fair game, because they signed up for it, but leave their families alone.
DeleteYou know I have not read one book by her! But I love the sound of this one. It definitely sounds like it will be an emotional read.
ReplyDeleteI saw her at YallFest a few years ago, and she was so fabulous, I wanted to see what she was all about.
DeleteI still haven't read a book by her and not sure how that happened. This sounds good!!
ReplyDeleteI just finished her adult novel yesterday, and I enjoyed it. So, I am looking forward to seeing how she handles a very different type of story.
DeleteLove the sound of this book! I'm already feeling all the feels just from the blurb. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW.
Feeling the feels is a big requirement for me when I read.
DeleteI am super excited for this books as well. It will definitely take me on a roller coaster of emotions, but I think that it will be worth it. I hope that we both love it! :)
ReplyDeleteJust for the blurb, I feel like the story is going in a positive, hopeful direction, and that's how I like my reads.
DeleteOooh! This looks cute! Great pick!

Thanks. I am looking forward to it.
DeleteThis sounds like it will be a fairly emotional read but an inspirational one too. Nice choice.
ReplyDeleteJenea's Book Obsession's CWW
Exactly. I think there are some people out there that could get a lot out of a book like this.
DeleteI do love emotional books too and this one is new to me! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI complained to my co-blogger about telling me to read a sad book, and she told me, "it's cathartic." Must be when I sometimes crave an emotional read.
DeleteNice pick! Doesn't sound like my kind of read though. Regardless, I hope you will thoroughly enjoy it once you read it!

Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I feel like this could be a winner for me if things are handled properly.
DeleteBack in the day I used to be OBSESSED with Melissa's Au Pairs series, but I really haven't read a book by her since then. This one sounds really good though - definitely emotional and I love me some emotional books. I'm also interested to see how she approaches bulimia in this. Great pick, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI have had my eye on that series. I know, I am late to the party again, but I think I saw it on some summer themed list this past summer, and it looks like a series I would like.
