My Week in Review
Happy Sunday! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I am getting excited about the end of August because I will be closer to my trip. This week was a bit frustrating. I was in the office the other day and set the woman next to me into a laughing fit when she saw me do my silent scream and fist shaking at the computer screen. Do you ever feel like nobody understands their job? This week was full of such things. Monitoring the inbox is the gift that keeps on giving, I suppose. We were shorthanded two days as well when other people called out, so I was very busy.
And Murphy's law was in full effect. As always, my morning train was late every day and so was my afternoon train, but more so than usual. Monday started with the late AM train, then there had been an accident on the highway between my job and train station. They went from three lanes to two, and it took 30 minutes to do the usually 12 minute drive to the campus. Then, in the afternoon, the train was 16 minutes late. Same thing happened Tuesday in the PM, but of course, when there was traffic on the highway for some reason I am unaware of in the afternoon (another 30 minute bus trip), the train was on time. We JUST made it. Good times.
Not much else to report. Weather has been good, 80s during the day. We had a thunder storm come in Thursday night, and the result was glorious. I was reveling in the cool breeze. It made me even more excited for fall.

Stacking the Shelves
I have not been requesting much from Netgalley, but I cannot resist a good Read-now. I had no idea Sara Barnard was writing adult books. I am a big of her young adult books, and obviously had to download her new Berkley release. I have only read a handful of shifter books, but Tree Daddy had a fun name and a Yeti thrown in there. I was intrigued. I love Lynn Painter and I was too late to get the download last time, but I got lucky the second time around for Trust Fall. I also downloaded the new Schusterman for my daughter to read and review for the blog. She is the unofficial hype-man for the Scythe series and was excited to see a spinoff.
I got a few invites too. I was most excited about Under the Orchard's Spell as I adored Adams' previous release. I clicked that one immediately.

Read Last Week
Reading was slow this week. I think I am just extra tired and stuck in a rut. I really need to go somewhere and do something that isn't work or chores, but I am happy to report that Natalie Sue did it for me again. I love her sarcastic heroines and watching them grow and change during her stories. Mona was put on an administrative leave after an incident with a high level client. During that time, she became more involved in the community housed in the building where she lived. As expected, the place is filled with quirky characters who I grew to adore and the story turned pretty warm and fuzzy.
I also enjoyed Swear on This Life. It's been a minute since I read a Carlino book. This was angsty which is pretty much a Carlino signature though I felt this was a lot gentler with my heart than her most recent release. It was a friends-to-lovers second-chance romance with most of the drama being confined to their past. It was interesting the way the past unfolded via a fictionalized version of the characters' life.
