Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for

Start at the End
 by Emma Grey
Published by Zibby Publishing on April 7, 2026
Age/Genres: Adult, Fiction
Goodreads

From the bestselling author of The Last Love Note and Pictures of You comes an epic story of two soulmates who have to start over before they’ve really begun.

When Audrey and Fraser tumble into a love story for the ages, theirs is an epic, unbreakable romance—until one tragic moment upends everything. Facing the unimaginable, wrestling with guilt, they’re left haunted by “what ifs.”

Would their lives still have imploded if they'd done one little thing differently? Where would they be if events had unfolded the other way around?

This powerful, emotional, sliding-doors novel about love, loss, grief, and hope asks if our stories are already written. Are we able to change fate? And is it ever too late to start again?

I have had great success with Grey's previous books, and therefore, this was an automatic add to the TBR. Her books tend to be quite emotional, and you know I am always down to shed some tears. I also like that this is about second chances and it never being too late. I whole-heartedly support these ideas and love reading about them.

The Paper Palace
 by Miranda Cowley Heller
Published by Riverhead Books on July 6, 2021
Age/Genres: Adult, Fiction
Goodreads

It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a fifty-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at "The Paper Palace"—the family summer place which she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: last night Elle and her oldest friend Jonas crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside.

Now, over the next twenty-four hours, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband, Peter, and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love, Jonas, if a tragic event hadn't forever changed the course of their lives.

As Heller colors in the experiences that have led Elle to this day, we arrive at her ultimate decision with all its complexity. Tender yet devastating, The Paper Palace considers the tensions between desire and dignity, the legacies of abuse, and the crimes and misdemeanors of families.

This book was all over my feed a few years ago when I added it to the TBR. It's not something I would automatically add, but people were really hyping it. Needless to say, I forgot about it until it popped up on my Goodreads feed again. I am actually nervous about this one. The whole story is built around adultery and it is literary fiction. I have read books that were done well which involved adultery, but like literary fiction, they can be hit or miss for me. Let's hope my Goodreads friends have good taste, and this is a winner.
