Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Again Again
E. Lockhart
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: June 2, 2020
Goodreads
In this novel full of surprises from the New York Times bestselling author of We Were Liars and Genuine Fraud, E. Lockhart ups the ante with an inventive and romantic story about human connection, forgiveness, self-discovery, and possibility.

If you could live your life again, what would you do differently?

After a near-fatal family catastrophe and an unexpected romantic upheaval, Adelaide Buchwald finds herself catapulted into a summer of wild possibility, during which she will fall in and out of love a thousand times—while finally confronting the secrets she keeps, her ideas about love, and the weird grandiosity of the human mind.

A raw, funny story that will surprise you over and over, Again Again gives us an indelible heroine grappling with the terrible and wonderful problem of loving other people.
Why I want to read this book

My first experience with Lockhart's work was We Were Liars, and it was a great one. From there, I went on to read the Ruby Oliver books and Frankie Landau. All were hits, therefore, I want to read this because it's something from Lockhart. I have heard this deals with multiverses, and we see how these different possibilities play out for the main character as she deals with some hurts, losses, and family issues. I like the concept, and trust that Lockhart will execute yourself. If that's not enough for me, it also has romance, and you all know I live for that.

Up to This Point
Jennifer Longo
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Random House
Release Date: January 19, 2016
Goodreads
She had a plan. It went south.

Harper is a dancer. She and her best friend, Kate, have one goal: becoming professional ballerinas. And Harper won’t let anything—or anyone—get in the way of The Plan, not even the boy she and Kate are both drawn to.

Harper is a Scott. She’s related to Robert Falcon Scott, the explorer who died racing to the South Pole. So when Harper’s life takes an unexpected turn, she finagles (read: lies) her way to the icy dark of McMurdo Station . . . in Antarctica. Extreme, but somehow fitting—apparently she has always been in the dark, dancing on ice this whole time. And no one warned her. Not her family, not her best friend, not even the boy who has somehow found a way into her heart.
Why I want to read this book

This book has been on my TBR since, like, 2015, when I first heard about it. But, since I didn't have it, I was not rushing to read it. Then, I read Longo's current release, What I Carry, and I was blown away. That day, I knew I had to read more of Jennifer Longo's books. I thought I would start with this one for two reasons. One, it's set in Antartica. That's unusual. Two, the main character is a dancer, and the former dance mom in me loves stories about dancers. Sounds like a winning combination to me.

  1. Love the sound of Up To This Pointe as I'm a sucker for any dance theme in a book. Thanks for drawing my attention to it, as it's going straight on to my tbr.

    1. I pushed it up my TBR and finished it the other day, and it was wonderful! There's a lot of ballet in there, but it's really about how to recover after realizing you can never live your dream. I have now read two of Longo's books, and I am a fan of her work.

  2. Again, Again sounds emotionally intense and yet the blurb says it's a raw and funny - and that makes it such a good mix to me. I hope it's as good as it sounds!

  5. ooh, I didn't know E. Lockhart's new book has a cover now but I love it! I liked We Were Liars but the Genuine Fraud was kind of a miss for me. But I'm still really interested to read this one! :)

    1. I have not read Genuine Fraud, only because the synopsis didn't hook me. This is more my speed, and I have enjoyed her other contemporaries (Ruby Oliver, Frankie Landau Banks)

  6. Again Again looks to be quite different than Lockhart's usual but I love when authors veer in new directions and I've enjoyed her books.

    1. I felt her last book was a big departure too, though, this feels like it meets somewhere between her contemporaries and that last one.

    1. Like I said, Longo has been on my TBR for years. In fact, all three of her books were there. She is fantastic! I actually finished Pointe the other day, and it was another 5-stars for a Longo book.

    1. Pointe was excellent, but Longo's current release was probably a touch better. It's set out in your neck of the woods too.

    1. I have read six of Lockhart's books, and have enjoyed them all. I have Genuine Fraud, but have put it off, because I am really a contemporary reader. My co-blogger loved it, though, which is encouraging for me.

  18. These covers look so good next to each other! It's weird how they released so far apart and still the covers have similar vibes. But anyway, I've not really read many E Lockhart books, I read We Were Liars and then sort of forgot about them as an author but that sounds like a weird and slightly intriguing read, I'll look forward to your review. And Up To This Pointe, I remember seeing it about and I never got the whole Antarctica thing, I feel like I must have not actually read what it was about. I definitely want you to read and review that one because it sounds like dance and Antarctica should not be in the same book so now I want to know if it works.

    1. Pointe was so good. I have read two of Longo's books, and both had explorer's incorporated into the story. What I Carry had John Muir and Pointe had Robert Falcon Scott, which was her link to Antartica, which was where she escaped to as her dreams unraveled. It was an interesting choice, and I liked the way Longo used it in the story.
