Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Throw Like a Girl
Sarah Henning
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: January 7, 2020
Goodreads
Friday Night Lights meets Morgan Matson's The Unexpected Everything in this contemporary debut where swoonworthy romance meets underdog sports story.

When softball star Liv Rodinsky throws one ill-advised punch during the most important game of the year, she loses her scholarship to her fancy private school, her boyfriend, and her teammates all in one fell swoop. With no other options, Liv is forced to transfer to the nearest public school, Northland, where she'll have to convince their coach she deserves a spot on the softball team, all while facing both her ex and the teammates of the girl she punched... Every. Single. Day.

Enter Grey, the injured star quarterback with amazing hair and a foolproof plan: if Liv joins the football team as his temporary replacement, he'll make sure she gets a spot on the softball team in the Spring. But it will take more than the perfect spiral for Liv to find acceptance in Northland's halls, and behind that charming smile, Grey may not be so perfect after all.

With well-drawn characters and a charming quarterback love interest who's got brains as well as brawn, Throw Like a Girl will have readers swooning from the very first page.
Why I want to read this book

How am I expected to resist this book, when the synopsis mentions both FNL and Morgan Matson? These are things I love. I also adore girls breaking barriers - girl QB? Yes, please. The set up sounds really fun, and then there is the whole private-school-girl-in-the-public-school-world, which for some reason, can be great, when done well. Most of all, I am here for the sports story feels. I play zero sports, and my high school sport was track, which is pretty solitary, but I love team sports books, and I think this will be a real winner for me.

Love Scene, Take Two
Alex Evansley
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Swoon Reads
Release Date: June 12, 2018
Goodreads
Debut author Alex Evansley delivers a sweet summer romance in this inventive novel about a young heartthrob and teen author falling in love.

Teddy Sharpe is kind of famous. He might actually be on his way to being really famous, especially if he'd nailed an audition for the lead role in the movie adaption of the newest bestselling young adult book series. There's just one problem: He totally blew the audition. And he's stuck in a tiny North Carolina airport. And his maybe-ex-girlfriend kind of just broke up with him.

The weekend isn't exactly looking good until Bennett Caldwell, author of the very book series he just auditioned for, takes pity on him and invites him to her family's lake house. Away from the glitz and glam of Hollywood for a few days, Teddy starts to relax . . . and somehow he and Bennett just click. But dating is hard enough when you aren't the subject of several dozen fanblogs, and the Internet is full of juicy gossip about Teddy and Bennett . . . gossip that Bennett might not be prepared to handle.

Chosen by readers like you for Macmillan’s young adult imprint Swoon Reads, Alex Evansley's debut novel, written from both Bennett and Teddy's perspectives, will have teens laughing, swooning, and falling in love along with these fantastically relatable characters.
Why I want to read this book

I am pretty sure this was a CWW pick for me, and I definitely know it was on my missed in 2018 list. I don't think there is anything in that synopsis, that doesn't call to me. It sounds so well suited to my tastes, AND Tanya, who understands my reading needs, believes I will adore this one. I am excited, that I finally made space on my weekly TBR for it!

  1. Throw Like a Girl sounds very fun! I've read a book about a female baseball pitcher, so a female quarterback could be really cool!

    1. Whoo hoo for your niece! I lacked the coordination for anything that required too much skill, but I was pretty good at track when I was younger. Now, I am a sloth

    1. When I saw the name, I thought she wrote fantasy books. I was surprised by that, but there are a lot of authors who are great at genre jumping.

  11. I like the sound of both of these, Sam!

I've had Love Scene, Take Two on my amazon wishlist for a while now... I've been stalking it waiting for a good price. It was up at £12.99 for the ebook when it released which was just crazy! It's dropped now though but it still costs the same as a paperback and that's more that I'd want to spend on an unknown (to me) author, you know? I'll keep stalking... One day, I'll get it, lol.

    1. I got lucky and won a book of choice in a giveaway, and Love Scene was my pick. I won't pay more than $5 (usually) for an ebook, but the eLibrary NEVER gets Swoon titles and with all the Macmillan ebook drama, they probably never will.

  14. I had been interested in Throw Like a Girl ever since I saw it on Netgalley. It was one of the books I was eyeing on the site but didn't request it in the end. I have enough in my TBR. Still, my excitement and interest for this is still on its highest level. I mean.. a female quarterback? I'm here for that.

  15. They both sound fun. And the title Throw Like A Girl is so catchy. I'd grab it just because of that. LOL

    1. I like that they are taking a phrase meant to be insulting and using it to empower.

  16. I understand nothing of American football really but love girls killing it in what are usually seen as male dominated sports. I love Morgan Matson novels so really looking forward to giving it a read and seeing if there's any resemblance. Great choices this week Sam!

    1. I am by no means sporty. I know basics of most sports, but I love that I can still enjoy a sports book without that base. Sometimes I am nervous, when they name-drop in a synopsis, but I think this one will deliver.

  17. Wow, in Throw Like A Girl I want to know who she hit with the punch because she loses out on so much from a single hit. That would be so hard to have to experience all at once :( The synopsis has me so curious about that book now...

    1. That's real world right there. I remember taking adolescent psych, and it is found, that many teens engage in reckless behaviors, because they never think "it will happen to them". It's good to see a character face pretty major consequences for bad decisions, and I sense a big personal journey and a cute romance, so you know I am there for that.
