Top Ten Tuesday: Baseball's Been Very, Very Good to Me

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Baseball's Been Very, Very Good to Me!

As much as my very athletic dad would have loved to pass on his love of the game, I was never coordinated enough to sports ball. So, maybe the sport has not be that great to me, but I have read a slew of incredible baseball books. Not only did all these books feature some baseball playing characters, but they left me in such a feel-good mood.
Bonus!

These are a few backlist baseball book, which I hope to read soon.

Do you have a favorite baseball team?

  1. You have so many good books/authors on this list! I love sports romance as well. Miranda Keneally is one of my favorite Y.A. contemporary authors. I loved Stealing Parker! Whatever Life Throws At You, Dare You To, and While It Lasts were all good books, and I love Julie Cross, Abbie Glines, and Katie McGarry. I need to check out some of the other books/authors that you have on this list that I haven't tried before.

    1. I am so excited that Keneally has a new book coming out next year. I hope it really happens and isn't just a tease.

  2. I follow the Texas Rangers but to be honest I have so little time to actually see any games on TV, especially with the time difference.

    1. I watch about zero sports on TV, but my family are Mets and Yankees fans (since I grew up in NY), and we went to Mets games as kids.

  3. I haven't read any of these! I rarely read baseball romance. I mostly stick to football and hockey, but I'm definitely checking some of these out, especially Julie Cross' novel and Game On!

    1. I have read more than I thought, and even more with adult romance. Though, I feel my adult romance reading is, like yours, more football and hockey. Julie Cross' books have been delighting me to no end. I hope we get a new Juniper Falls book this year.

  4. Hahaha, I was never coordinated enough for sport ball either! The kids in my PE class would groan whenever the teacher put me on a team with them.

    1. Same. I was actually put into a locker by one girl in my class, because I played gym class field hockey poorly. It ended up being a fight between her and one of my friends, and the gym teacher ended up with a black eye. It was ugly.

  5. I knew I'd see Stealing Home on your list. Have you read The Crossover by Kwame Alexander (basketball story)? I loved it so much that I bought a copy to keep.

    1. I have not read any of Alexander's books, though, they are on my TBR.

    2. Alexander is an auto buy author for me. His writing is poetry in motion.

    3. Good to know! I had The Crossover marked for when I do a basketball book thing.

    1. My sister and my dad love it, but I went to the games for the food and kept stats to keep my head in the game. The books are great, because when there are game "clips", it's always the exciting parts.

  7. I liked Stealing Parker. I loved Dare You To. I've also read some adult contemporary sports romances with baseball that I loved. Most currently, The Locker Room by Meghan Quinn. Fun topic choice today!

    1. I loved Kenneally's books. I have a few more books to read from that series, but am really excited that she has something new coming out next year. I have read a ton of adult baseball books. I have not read that one by Quinn, but Jaci Burton, Katie McCoy, J. Sterling come to mind.

  8. Wow! That's a lot of baseball books. I was never a sports fan myself so books with sports in it--even if they were somehow magically paranormal or mystery--wouldn't interest me. This was mostly due to a childhood where I was always forced to sit out in gym because of health issues and watched everyone else play (maybe 60% of the time). It gets boring "watching" everyone for so many years. Lol.

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I wish I had gotten to sit out of gym class. It was my own hell on earth, because I was so bad at team sports. I took a D in the class one year, because I could never recover from the locker room harassment over my poor skills. It was brutal.

  9. I don't think I've ever read a baseball- centered book, but I've seen a few of these around and they look fun!

    1. I like sports books in general (and movies too). There is always so feel good, rah-rah moment, and I love it.

  10. The Game Can't Love You Back is the only once I've read on your list, but it was very fun!

  11. Sports books have never been my thing so I've never read a single one of these! There are some great covers in there though!

    1. I have yet to see too many modern day sports played extensively in sci-fi or fantasy books. They need to get on that.

  12. Wow! That's a lot of baseball books. I had no idea there were that many of them! I have no athletic ability and no real interest in sports, so I don't generally read books about them. I'm glad you enjoy them, though.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Oh, there are more. If I included my adult reads, the list would go on forever.

  13. I can't play baseball worth a darn either. I don't really watch baseball, but a good book is a good book, right? I'm more interested in basketball and the individual/pairs kind of Olympic sports.

    1. There are not as many basketball books out there, which surprises me, but I recently read a great adult series with bball. I have only read a few books featuring Olympic athletes, but they were amazing. Especially when we got to go to the games.

  14. Think the only sports-themed book I've ever read is 'Fever Pitch', which is about football/soccer. But they did do a re-make of the film version that was about baseball? I still need to watch that!

    1. Nick Hornby is someone I have been wanting to read. I loved movies based on his books. Maybe I will check Fever Pitch out. They adapted it and changed the sport? That's so odd.

    1. Me + sport romances = a very good thing. I read a ton of adult sports romances, so obviously, if I find a good YA one, I am there for it.

    1. Conviction was recommended to me by several people, and I have been meaning to read it. I think it will happen, because I am pushing hard on the backlist.

  19. I love that you have an entire top ten list about baseball books! I don't know if I've ever read about a character who plays baseball, I guess it doesn't crossover with SFF much lol.

    1. The benefit of reading so many books is the ability to put together so many lists (which I adore doing). They need more sports in SFF books. I can only imagine how great and fantastical it could be there too.
