Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I can't wait for....
The Shortest Distance Between Love & Hate
Sandy Hall
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Swoon Reads
Release Date: July 9, 2019
Goodreads
A teen girl starting at a new school is torn between long-held loyalties and a bright new love.

Paisley is really looking forward to college. She is ready to take charge of her destiny and embrace some new experiences! Finding a hot guy to make out with at her first ever college party seems like a great start . . . until her best friend informs her that mystery guy is actually Carter Schmitt, Paisley's sworn enemy who basically ruined their lives in middle school.

So much for new people and exciting new experiences. Oh well. Paisley will just pretend he doesn't exist. Of course that would be easier if Carter, AKA her super-hot-sworn-enemy, hadn't ended up in three of her classes AND the same work study. Is it too late to rethink this college thing?
Why I want to read this book

A few years back, Swoon Reads did a book tour, and Sandy Hall was part of it. At that time, I had not read any of her books, but she was so funny, that I knew I had to read her books. My prior experience with Hall has been positive. As expected, the books were funny, but also sweet and adorable, which is something I value. I like that Hall does YA-goes-to-college too, because it's a niche we need more books in, and this story sounds like it will be a great addition to the group that's already out there.

The Chai Factor
Farah Heron
Age/Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: HarperAvenue
Release Date: July 9, 2019
Goodreads
Thirty-year-old engineer Amira Khan has set one rule for herself: no dating until her grad-school thesis is done. Nothing can distract her from completing a paper that is so good her boss will give her the promotion she deserves when she returns to work in the city. Amira leaves campus early, planning to work in the quiet basement apartment of her family’s house. But she arrives home to find that her grandmother has rented the basement to . . . a barbershop quartet. Seriously? The living situation is awkward: Amira needs silence; the quartet needs to rehearse for a competition; and Duncan, the small-town baritone with the flannel shirts, is driving her up the wall.

As Amira and Duncan clash, she is surprised to feel a simmering attraction for him. How can she be interested in someone who doesn’t get her, or her family’s culture? This is not a complication she needs when her future is at stake. But when intolerance rears its ugly head and people who are close to Amira get hurt, she learns that there is more to Duncan than meets the eye. Now she must decide what she is willing to fight for. In the end, it may be that this small-town singer is the only person who sees her at all.
Why I want to read this book

I remember when people starting buzzing about this book last year. Honestly, all I had to hear was the word "rom-com", and I was sold. But, I am also in love with the idea of this driven heroine, who is being sidetracked by a barbershop quartet, who challenges her and those around her.

What are you waiting on?

    1. I think YA goes to college fills that gap, that NA doesn't, because they tend to be hardcore romances.

    1. That's why I read a Jason Reynold's book. He captivated me at his BookCon panel, and I had to read something by him.

    1. I hope I can get copies of these books. My library gets all the hyped books, and rarely those smaller books I want to read.

    1. She has done a book set in college before, and it has that YA feel, while still tackling those issues experienced by college aged folks. She does it well too.

    1. Set in college, but not your traditional NA romance type book. That's what people are clamoring for and post college books too, that are not all about the romance. (though I love romance)
