Top Ten Tuesday - Rainy Day Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Rainy Day Reads!

I am not a fan of weather, when I have somewhere to be, but I love to listen to the rain as I hide out inside. I have seen many different things people look for in a rainy day read. Some people are looking for a BIG book to pass the time, a mystery, or a book with a dark mood to match the weather. Me, I prefer to counteract the weather with a lighthearted book, that will bring some sunshine into my heart, while I wait for the storm to pass. These are some lighter reads, which left me with a smile on my face and a spring in my step.

What do you look for in a rainy day read?

  1. Yass Jenn Bennett! I totally agree that Starry Eyes is a great rainy day read, as is Geekerella! Great list!

    1. Starry Eyes may be my favorite Bennett book, though Daniel may be my fave of her YA love interests

  3. I don't read according to the weather, or for the weather, so this one had me stuck a little -- but I like your list, just looking at a few of the familiar titles in this made me smile too.

    1. Me neither, but if I did, these are the type of books I would pick

  4. I feel like I have a permanent spot in the reader hall of shame for having never read the Anna and the French Kiss trilogy. I just never got around to it and at this point I've kind of lost interest. *sigh* But Starry Eyes is high on my TBR and I hope to get to it soon!

    1. I feel like Anna is over hyped. I liked it, but I LOVED Isla. Do it! Read Starry Eyes. I don't think you will regret it.

  5. I love the sound of the rain when I'm safely and warmly indoors too! This is a great list, especially agree with Jenn Bennett, Ashley Poston, Nisha Sharma & Emma Mills!

    1. I abhor being wet and cold, but do love the sound and smell when it rains.

  6. I bought A Quiet Kind of Thunder, but it never showed up, so I’m sad. I’ll read it someday. It’s probably good for rain because there’s “thunder” in the title.

    1. I am appalled! I hope you got a refund. Not sure if there is any real thunder in the book, but it was sweet and adorable and made me super happy.

  7. I keep hearing great things about Geekerella. Really need to read it sometime.

  8. What a great lot of books! I love an easy read on a rainy day. I've loved some up there and have a bunch I need to get to as well.

    1. I always love an easy read, but they are especially welcomed, when there is something working to make me grumpy (like weather of any sort)

  9. Any and all Kasie West and Emma Mills books would be a comfort book for me, too.

  10. There is definitely something to be said for lighthearted reads on drizzly days. I took the same approach with my post!

    1. I always want to read that sort of book, but they are especially helpful when I am a little gloomy, and "weather" always seems to make me gloomy.

  11. When I'm inside, I love rain (especially at night, when I can read curled in a blanket with a cat on my lap). I bought I Believe in a Thing Called Love when it came out, but I have yet to read it.

    Happy readings! ;)

  12. Nice! It seems there's been a good split on whether people like creepy reads or light-hearted ones for rainy days! I feel like I've seen 50/50 on this today! Lol! I'm in the other 50% myself!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

  13. I'm the opposite -- I prefer broody and cozy reads on rainy days. I need more light-hearted reads in my life, though, so I'll definitely check out some of these. I like Kasie West, but she writes so fast that I can't keep up!

    1. I noticed two schools of thought dominated this TTT - go with it or go against it. Lots of light hearted books featured, but also, a lot of atmospheric, moody books. KWest has been on fire lately, just turning out book after book. I am up to date though.

  14. Such pretty, bright covers on all of these too! I'm on a waiting list for Opposite of Always--meaning my students need to finish it so I can read it! One girl who bought her own copy has said I can borrow it if she finishes it first.

    1. I can understand going with the flow and embracing the gloom, especially if that's one of your go-to genres. It's sort of fabulous to have the weather enhancing your reading experience.

  18. The Opposite of Always sounds like such a good book. I got Listen to Your Heart at the Colorado Teen Literature Conference last weekend, so that will be good to read this summer.

    1. KWest always does it for me, but I was so pleasantly surprised by Opposite of Always, and I know I want more from that author.

  19. Lighter reads can be nice, no doubt, on a gloomy or rainy day. Especially in summer! I love the look of Listen To Your Heart. :)

  21. I love the rain! We have a tin roof, so it makes a wonderful sound when it storms. I don't choose specific type of book when it rains, just whatever I'm reading at the time. :)

    1. I can't say I read according to the weather or season, but since the question was asked, I thought about what I would like to read. My mood plays a big role in how I read, and I just thought about my mood when it storms, and this is what I came up with.

  22. I'm all for crime fiction read on a rainy day, but also something light and sweet and romantic! I spy Jenn Bennett on your list! She'd be an author I'd read on a rainy day :)

    1. If I read crime fiction, I think it would be cool to go for the multi sensory approach, and pair it with a moody day.

  23. The sound of rain when you're curled up inside is just the best. Especially when you have a warm drink and a good book in hand to pass the time. I love some of your picks to do this with, like Geekerella, and see a couple here I want to read Like Foolish Hearts and Mt So Called Bollywood Life. I think I'll look forward to a rainy day if I have one of these to spend it with.

    1. I think you would adore Foolish Hearts. It's just so adorable and fantastic and Mills does family and friendship and teen banter so well.

  24. I don't have specific rainy day reads. I just work through my books regardless of weather and seasons. I do like reading when the rain is lashing against the windows though!

  26. I like to read all kinds of books and doesn't matter if it is raining or not. I like what I like. Given the choice I would pick a light romance.

    1. Mood plays a bigger role in what I will read, but I think my mood is affected by the weather, which means the weather indirectly affects my reading. Light romance is my go-to ALL the time.
