Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

I don't recall anything eventful happening this week. So, no news is good news. I am leaving on Friday for Chicago to go see my daughter perform. It's been a while since I've seen her dance, and even longer since I have seen her tap. Needless to say, I am super excited. Here's hoping the weather is decent, because she had planned a river cruise, and she also got us tickets to see Aly & A.J. (the Radio Disney artists from back in the day).

This is the show my daughter is dancing in.....
I haven't seen Aly & AJ since Kiersten was about 8 years old (circa 2003), so I don't know any of their new songs, but I loved this one back in the day.

And, as always, I leave you with something cute....
Let's Discuss!

What I Read Last Week

I read two books I knew I would enjoy  (Meader), two I was worried about due to early reviews, but enjoyed (Riccio, Darrows), and two which were my top reads of the week (Morrison, Melleby). It was a very good reading week.

  1. You have some great books lined up. I do love Kate Meader though, I still need to get my hands on her new series, but boy I love those covers.

I hope you enjoy Bride Test....I LOVED that book, even more than TKQ.

    1. I have had good luck with Meader's books, and I enjoyed the new series. It starred a solid friend group and the last two were really emotional. I am so excited for more Helen Hoang. I should be reading that one by Tuesday, I think.

  2. Oh have a good trip to see your daughter!!! I spy two books I am waiting on approvals for so I am not getting my hopes up lol. Enjoy them all and can't wait to hear what you think. Have a great week!!

    1. There are a few pubs out there doing a lot of last minute approvals (RH, I am always dropping everything for their books), and I got the Buxbaum because of a tour, otherwise, I would still be in approval limbo for that one too.

  3. I didn't know your daughter danced! I assumed she was away because she was studying far from home...

    1. My daughter danced her whole life, but now only does it for fun. One of the choreographers teaches a drop in class she takes, and asked her to audition. She's an analytics consultant by day, but it warms my heart to see her still dancing after all the years she put into it.

  4. I agre, no news is good news. Yay for being able to go see your daughter perform, though. That will be exciting. It's cool she got tickets for you, although I've not heard anything by ALy & AJ in a while so now I'm off to spotify them. And you plan on reading The Bride Test soon? I'm excited to see what you think. Have a good week.

    1. Kiersten is very loyal to those bands from her youth. I remember the ecstatic text I received, when she found out they were making music again. I am super excited to get back to Hoang's world. I am mostly only seeing raves, so I feel pretty good about it. I finished Bright Burning Stars this Morning and am starting Acevedo's book, which is in verse, so it should go quickly. I may be reading TBT by tomorrow.

  5. Wow! Sounds like fun times ahead! I remember Aly and AJ though I never really listened to them. I think that was in my "I need to be an adult" teenage phase! Lol. I watched Disney Channel but never told anyone about it! Sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

Nice new reads too! Totally new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy each and every one of them!

    1. I saw Aly & AJ open for the Cheetah Girls (they performed after a very new band called the Jonas Brothers). My daughter was all about Radio Disney. I have seen many of their artists live. It will be interesting seeing Aly & AJ all grown up.

  6. It was actually a pretty good reading week-finished three and DNFed a few more. It all helps the TBR!

    1. I DNFed a book. I hardly ever do that. I was a little sad, but the book was going nowhere after 20%. What are you going to do. Glad to hear your week was good.

    1. They already have 3 shows under their belt, so it should be really good by the time I see it next week. I wish the forecast was better, but it's kind of crummy for these parts as well.

    1. I am pretty impressed that my daughter is still dancing. It makes me feel like all that money I spent was worth it, as it is something she still loves. I hope your recital is fun, and you should really post a picture.

    1. I had done that book via audio as well (though I had eARC, I truly suck). I thought it was fabulous! Hoang's debut was strong, and all the buzz has been really positive for the sequel too.

    1. Aly & AJ's first release was in 2005. So, they've been around awhile, and my kid is in her 20s. They are a very millennial thing. Glad blogger remembered you.

    1. I was expecting With the Fire on High to be in verse. It isn't, but the chapters are nice and short and have lots of Acevedo's fantastic wordplay. I am about 40-ish% through, and I am fully onboard TeamEmoni.

    1. That pub is not always generous with me. So, yes, joined the tour to get the book (I am shameless), but I have read all of Buxbaum's books (YA and adult), and am really a fan. TBT was great. I am glad Hoang had no sophomore slump.

  21. I hope you enjoyed heading to Chicago to watch her perform! You have such a talented daughter, especially as she can tap dance! Yes, sometimes no news is good news. I did listen to the newest AJ and Aly song. It was okay, but I do love their music that I grew up on more.
