Top Ten Tuesday: What I Like About You
What I Like About You!
I read a lot of books, and meet a lot of characters, but there are some that win a foothold in my heart, because there is just something special about them. Thinking back to all these characters I loved, I have identified certain types of characters, which endeared themselves to me. That is what we are talking about this Top Ten Tuesday. As always, I will feature YA books I have read and enjoyed, and will give an example of a character, who fits the description from a recent read.Tuesday, August 13, 2019
Top Ten Tuesday: Book Besties!
Book Besties!
I have read many books and "met" many characters, some of whom, I would love as a friend. A few qualities I look for in a friend are: loyalty, generosity, and a good sense of humor. Many of my favorite characters possess these qualities, and below are a few I would be honored to have as a friend. I am trying to focus on newer books, but there are a few oldies in there, because I adore them too much to leave them out.

Blog Tour: Truly Madly Royally - Debbie Rigaud
Debbie Riguad
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Point
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
Zora Emerson is not here to play. She's enrolled in a prestigious summer program, and is ready to use what she's learning to change the world (or at least her corner of New Jersey, for now).
Zora's not expecting to vibe with any of her super-privileged classmates. So she's shocked to find she's got chemistry with Owen Whittelsey, who is charming, funny, undeniably cute...and turns out to literally be a prince. As in, his parents are the king and queen of a small European country. What?
Suddenly, Zora's summer is looking a lot more complicated -- especially when Owen asks her to be his date at his older brother's wedding. Can her feelings for Owen, not to mention her sense of self, survive the royal chaos?
Debbie Rigaud brings sparkling humor and insight to this empowering romantic comedy that's all about ruling your own destiny.

Top Ten Tuesday: Jersey Girls
We have a character freebie this week, and I decided to highlight books featuring characters from my home state. I was never really a Jersey girl. I spent most of my early years in Brooklyn, but I went to high school and college here, and currently reside here, so technically, I am a Jersey girl. I don't do the shore, and am not a Springsteen fan, but I will rock out to Bon Jovi, and I still think big hair is great.

Top Ten Tuesday: Highly Anticipating!
Highly Anticipating - YA Releases!
This year has been packed with amazing releases, and there are a TON I am still looking forward to. I like to keep track of these lists, and so far, I have read 9/10 books from my previous YA anticipating post and 6/10 from my adult anticipating post. Today, I will be sharing ten YA releases I am looking forward to reading in the second half of this year. December is sort of slim pickings, but I do have a book, which I will feature in an upcoming Can't Wait Wednesday post.

Top Ten Tuesday - Rainy Day Reads
Rainy Day Reads!
I am not a fan of weather, when I have somewhere to be, but I love to listen to the rain as I hide out inside. I have seen many different things people look for in a rainy day read. Some people are looking for a BIG book to pass the time, a mystery, or a book with a dark mood to match the weather. Me, I prefer to counteract the weather with a lighthearted book, that will bring some sunshine into my heart, while I wait for the storm to pass. These are some lighter reads, which left me with a smile on my face and a spring in my step.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Chase the Funk Away
Books to chase the funk away!
I have never really fell into an actual reading slump, but sometimes I fall into mental slumps. Therefore, I am spinning the topic to books that help me chase the funk away. When I am in that sort of headspace, I find I need to keep it light and breezy. I seek out funny books, books with solid HEAs, and more generally speaking, books that make me happy. Here are some recent made-me-happy YA books.

Review: Listen to Your Heart - Kasie West
Kasie West
Series: n/a
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Point
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads
Talking to other people isn't Kate Bailey's favorite activity. She'd much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school's podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she'll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.
But to Kate's surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend ... until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. Suddenly, Kate finds that while doling out wisdom to others may be easy, asking for help is tougher than it looks, and following your own advice is even harder.
Kasie West's adorable story of secrets, love, and friendship is sure to win over hearts everywhere.
