Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! I hope all is well with everyone. Lots going on with sportsball if that's your thing. I am not a sports fan, but the excitement in my area for the World Cup and the NBA playoffs is contagious. I am especially loving the posts from the World Cup visitors. There is a German named Freddy who is doing a whole tour of the south, and his posts are a delight. It's fun to see things I know through a different lens. I am trying to hold on to hope that the World Cup events do not impact my commute. NJ Transit has made many announcements and there was a lot of drama about the prices, but I cannot see how it would impact me. People going to and from the city, sure, but I suppose I should be leery as it is NJT which is a disaster.

This week felt so long. It was very hot, and it was slow at work (at least for me). It was recently that the head of our line of business is moving to a new position in the firm. First and foremost, he was great, but I am nervous because there is a big change rolling out for my group. It was suppose to go live in May, but it's late, but it will have a huge impact on the size of the staff needed. I hope they name a new person who has a vision for what they will do with us once this all goes down. I hate looking for a job. It's like dating, very painful.

One exciting thing I did this week. I booked a ticket to Chicago for September. I really want to see the Pokemon fossil exhibit which is visiting from Japan. It got there AFTER my visit in May. I also hope to visit the Hello Kitty Cafe. It will be a short visit, Friday night to Tuesday morning, but I am excited.

Stacking the Shelves

Another good week of invites. I already had the new Stone, but I had my eye on both the Barry and the Derogatis. I may download those.

Read Last Week

I knew this was going to be a good reading week because I had books by authors I have had great success with in the past. The new Shalvis was a delight, as expected, and I was glad that Lavine's newest was a solid hit for me. Not that Kind of Proposal was an utter delight! It was a rivals to lovers tale that was filled with lots of rom-com moments. The main premise, where her ex asks her to plan his wedding is bonkers, but it was so much fun accompanying the hero and heroine through all the planning meetings as they fell for each other.

I also enjoyed the backlist book from Freya Sampson. It's a mystery, I suppose, but more than that, it was a charming multi-generational story that made me smile. Again, I had a great time reading this one.
