Save the Bookstore!
Happy Friday! I recently read The Last Page, and one part of that story was saving the bookstore from closure. This had me thinking about other bookstore books I have read, and I was finding it hard to think of one where the bookstore WASN'T being saved (maybe the safe bookstores aren't as memorable?).
Don't get me wrong. It's always a good time reading about the community rallying to save something. It usually involved people from every generation banding together for the greater good. It gives me something to root for, and these books tend to be quite feel-good as well, but it makes me believe that all bookstores are doomed!
As far as this plot, there is normally quite a bit of drama, but it's more about the danger of the store closing than people being horrible. I can get behind that because if you know me, you understand I am not huge on drama. This is drama which always seems to result in something positive and most of the time, the store is saved.
Below are some "struggling" bookstore books I have read. Have you read any of these books?
- The Last Page by Katie Holt
- The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
- The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy meyerson
- How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry
- The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay
- Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
- Goodnight June by Sarah Jio
- The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs
- The Cat Who Saved Books by SÅsuke Natsukawa
- Love Walked In by Sarah Chamerlain
I have two questions for you:

Yes, I think you're right, most books that have bookstore settings are about saving the store! Staci Hart has a series that sort of has a bookstore setting (some of the characters work there) and that bookstore fortunately did not need saving! It's also part bar, so that probably helps, ha!
ReplyDeleteI am sure I read something set in a profitable bookstore, but I suppose that didn't embed in my memory the way the drama of saving the store does. HA! The bar keeps it open for sure.
DeleteI haven't read any on your list, but I've read several books with the same situation. This Book Made Me Think of You was a recent one.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great book! I didn't remember the bookstore was failing until right now. HA! I remember all the touching sweet stuff.
