Chonky Books!
Happy Tuesday! We are supposed to be sharing our chonky books today. I have been honest about my aversion to super long books. Maybe that's one reason why I am not a big fantasy reader. I tend to read contemporary books which do not need the extra hundreds of pages to build a world. When I ordered by read-shelf by page count, I was NOT surprised to see the results. The bulk of the ten books below are fantasy books AND they are by Cassandra Clare or Sarah J. Maas.
- City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare - 725 pages
- Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy - 610 pages
- A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas - 707 pages
- Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare - 699 pages
- Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas - 693 pages
- Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare - 689 pages
- Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - 672 pages
- The Winners by Fredrik Backman - 671 pages
- Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas - 653 pages
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas - 626 pages
What chonky books have you read?

I like a long book especially if it's within a series that I am really liking. Acheron and Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon were both long and really good.
ReplyDeleteI can understand Kenyon's books being longer since she had to build a world, but contemporaries shouldn't be massive.
DeleteI have read them all but Circle of Friends!
ReplyDeleteThose are three popular authors and fantasy too!
DeleteI miss Maeve Binchy! I loved her books.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
I read this a long time ago, around the time the movie was being made. It was good.
DeleteI haven't read a fantasy book in awhile. The longest books I generally read these days are historical fiction by Ken Follett.
ReplyDeleteI can see a historical fiction being on the longer side, depending on how deep they go into it.
DeleteOkay the takeaway here is that Sarah J Maas needs an editor, stat. Honestly that is why I stopped reading her books- they're too long and they don't need to be! Most of my longest books would be the same as yours, I think! A few Chuck Wendig books have been longer for me, but they don't *feel* as long! I too am scared of chonky books so I agree with you there!
ReplyDeleteHA! Her books are always long. It's as if she is paid by the word. LOL! Because I am not a hardcore fantasy reader, I allow the length, but I am super critical of overly long contemporary books.
