Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

The winter of 2018 just won't give up. Another week, another nor'easter. This time, we got about a foot of snow AND for the first time in 3 years, my company closed the campus. Yeah for snow days! The free food game was pretty good too - Chick-fil-A, cupcakes, and breakfast were supplied last week, and you know how free food always tastes better.

Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

I had a rough commuting week. Thank goodness it was only four days long. We did get Chick-Fil-A at work one day and pizza another. So, that was good. Other than that, I throughly enjoyed the sneak peek of spring we received this week, and am really looking forward to more of that.

This week I had talked about how I like to read feel-good books because I enjoy the escape, and then I saw this post:

Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

I think we had three different seasons this week, as the temperature rose and rose, hitting 65 on Friday! I slept with my window open in January. In NJ. This is not normal. I am pretty excited about the three day weekend. Seriously, last week was the first 5-day week I worked since October. It was tough.

Other than the mundane, I read a lot, and I finally watched Everything, Everything. I really enjoyed the film. The casting was excellent, and I must commend whoever scored the film. The musical choices were superb and perfectly set the mood for each scene.

Speaking of adaptations, I kept seeing the trailer for Forever My Girl on Goodreads, so I decided to listen to the audiobook. It's looks very Nicholas Sparks, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

My Week in Review

My week started with tears, when I had to drive my daughter to the airport. It was so nice having her home. I will miss her, and am looking forward to seeing her in May. We survived the snow cyclone. Congratulations, everyone! AND, I heard the temperatures are going to be in the 30s soon. Yes, this has me excited.

My Week in Review

Another fine week! I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My sister did a stupendous job cooking the turkey. It was browned to perfection and super juicy. Gold star! I have to train the new person at work this week, and although I am flattered that management thinks I am skilled enough for this task, it will greatly hinder my audiobook listening.

My sister's turkey

I am currently enjoying Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas, and am loving have FIVE new movies this week. Loving it! I am also trying to find what reading challenges I want to partake in next year. I considered the Pop Sugar Challenge for about a minute, but that list was really hard. I like something that I makes me feel a sense of accomplishment, you know what I mean? If you are considering any interesting challenges, let me know in the comments.

Sunday's with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

This week flew by, as September winds down, and I begin counting down the days until I see my daughter. I am excited, because I have not seen her since June, and that is the longest I have gone in 22 years without seeing her.

I was super busy this week with family stuff and whatnot, so I did not get to troll the internet too much, but I did see this little post, which made me super happy:

I know I have mentioned this before, but in case you missed it, Legend is one of my favorite series, and it ended in such a way, that you can make a decision about what happened, but you never really knew. Imagine my delight that Marie Lu wrote a short story for us fans. It was a bonus with a Warcross pre-order, but she confirmed in this post that it will be available for purchase at some later date. Yee haw! That makes me happy.

I am pretty excited about a TV adaptation of the Raven Cycle books. Let's hope they do it justice.

Also, My mom told me that she bought the book below, because my cousin is profiled in the book, and she is even on the cover. I thought that was pretty cool.

I went a little nuts with romances this week. There were a ton of great ebook sales, and I could not resist. I also had to request the ARCs. I loved Roehig's debut, and am really excited to get my hands on his next book. I am also a fan of Jen Doyle's Calling It series, and squeed when I saw this book.

What I Read Last Week

So, Tuesday, I was at the bust stop, waiting to ride the bus to the train station. I was so absorbed in A Short History of the Girl Next Door, that when I checked the time, I realized the bus was already 6 minutes late. Then I looked around and I was alone at the bus stop. So, I ran the four blocks back home, and drove to work. This meant I did NOT get the three hours that I normally have to read, and I did NOT get to finish A Short History until the next day, which was a shame, because it was by far my favorite read of the week. (In case you are wondering, the other two women who are always at the bus stop with me were BOTH off on Tuesday, so I don't know if the bus ever came. )

  • Shooting for the Stars by Sarina Bowen (audiobook): This was the final book in the Gravity series, and it was wonderful. The ending was so good and such a gift.
  • My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella: This was Kinsella being Kinsella. Such a fun and quirky story filled with humor, warmth, and hijinks. I enjoyed it immensely. ★ 1/2
  • A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck: The book! I get really emotional just thinking about it. Wait, gotta dry the tears. There are too many things I loved about this book. I am still trying to write the review, but I am struggling to capture my thoughts properly, while not giving too much away.
  • Approximately Yours by Julie Hammerle: This series has been really cute. I am a fan of North Pole, and this one had a great Christmas gingerbread competition, and the heroine attempting to complete all the plans her late grandmother had in her day planner in order to honor her memory. You know that got me right in the feels. ★ 1/2
  • Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis: I love Shalvis. I love this series. Some great reveals about Spence in this book, and an ending that left my face hurting from the big smile I wore.
  • Remember When 2: The Sequel by T. Torrest (audiobook): The first book stood on its own, but Torrest decided to have Tripp and Layla cross paths again. The ending was quite painful, and I just realize Hoopla only had the first two books. DRAT!
What I Am Currently Reading

I am almost finished with Salvaged. It's sort of bittersweet as this is it for the Marked world. I like how Crownover is bringing all the past characters into the story in some way, and how we get to see Poppy heal and take charge of her life. I just started After All, and the beginning was so dramatic! So far, so good.

What I Plan to Read

I have one more library book to read, and then it is all ARCs. I am excited about Haunting the Deep, because I loved How to Hang a Witch so much (and Kiersten said the book is great too).

Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

So, remember how I thought it was so awesome that I had free lunch twice? Well, this past week we had lunch AND breakfast not once, not twice, but four days in a row. Friday was such a letdown, as we were all mourning the absence of any free food. But tomorrow starts three straight Jeans Weeks!

TV has not been too kind to me. First, Outlander! That was a really difficult episode. I may have cried. I need something a little more hopeful tonight. Then, my daughter messaged me to tell me that Stitchers was canceled. (let's us have a moment of silence) I really liked this show, and OF COURSE! the last episode was a cliffy. THIS is why I am watching less and less TV. You just can't trust that you will get closure. At least this does not tend to happen with books. Though, I am still waiting for the conclusion to the Killer Unicorn series (I'm looking at you Diana Peterfreund). And this tweet (which I saw as a retweet) left me so jealous, because I really want to know what happened after Day and June reunited. ðŸ˜

Ok folks, #Warcross pre-order surprise is here: LIFE AFTER LEGEND short story! Go here for details: https://t.co/ujLnZdY2Td pic.twitter.com/f9BKW0veDc

eARCs

  • Flight Season by Marie Marquardt: I love The Radius of Us so much, so when I saw this on Netgalley, I had to have it.
Purchased
  • Always Summer by Nikki Godwin: I am a fan of the Drenaline Surf books and grabbed this one on sale.
  • Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes: I am a fan of Stokes and have been wanting to read this, so when it hit a good price, I jumped on it.

What I Read Last Week

It was a pretty great week. Best read of the week was Autoboyography. I have no idea how this one got left off my spreadsheet, but when I realized it was coming out, I bumped one of my other books to read it, and it was so good!!!!
  • Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead: I really enjoyed this installment of the Glittering Court and was really impressed with how well Mead handled the concurrent timelines. This by no means felt like a replay of the last book, and Mira and Grant were fabulous together.
  • Flow by Kennedy Ryan: This was a flashback, and filled in some gaps I had from Ryan's Soul books with respect to the hero and the heroine of this series. ★ 1/2
  • Autoboyography by Christina Lauren: This was a beautiful romance and story of being true to who you are, and I really appreciated that the authors were respectful of the LDS church.
  • Fool Me Once by Catherine Bybee: I am such a Bybee fan and was so excited to be back in the world of her Weekday Brides again. Great characters, great romance, and I really enjoyed the suspense element too.
  • Speak Easy, Speak Love by Mckelle George: This was a fabulous retelling of Much Ado About Nothing. George picked some of the best parts of the 20s to highlight and this book was jammed with fantastic characters you can't help but love. ★ 1/2
  • Liars and Losers Like Us by Ami Allen-Vath: This one was fun and featured a sweet romance, which also touched about some serious issues, and I thought Allen-Vath balanced the different parts quite well. ★ 1/2

What I Am Currently Reading

I just started My Not So Perfect Life, and you know I am loving it, because Kinsella always makes me happy. I am listening the the last Gravity book, Shooting for the Stars. I was really happy to see this one new to Hoopla this week, because I love Bowen and am a fan of this series.

What I Plan to Read

Forecast is looking good for me, because I see a lot of romance books in my near future.

Stacking the Shelves [2]

Stacking the Shelves is an event hosted by Tynga's Reviews where bloggers share the books they bought, won, borrowed, or received. These are the books we've gotten throughout the past two weeks.

Kiersten:

Everyday I tag in to look through the Kindle Daily Deals. Because I was on vacation for a week without internet access, I missed those deals. (A tragedy, I know). So in the past two weeks I've only bought these books through Amazon Kindle daily deals:

Kiss & Make Up - Katie D. Anderson
No Peace for the Damned (The Damned Series, #1) - Megan Powell
Sketchy (Bea Catcher Chronicles, #1) - Olivia Samms

I bought The Immortal Circus: Act One a few months ago, so it seemed appropriate to get book two since it was only $1.99 on Kindle (Act One is only $3.99).

The Immortal Circus: Act Two (Cirque des Immortels, #2) - A.R. Kahler

I've also picked up the habit of frantically buying free ebooks on Amazon (as if I have nothing else to read...) I might have a problem. These are the free Kindle books I got in the past two weeks:

Amethyst (Guardian, #1) - Heather Bowhay
Banished from Grace (Fall from Grace, #1) - Aria Williams
Broken Butterflies (Broken Butterflies, #1) - Shadow Stephens
Cobbogoth (Cobbogoth, #1) - Hannah L. Clark
Crow (Prequel, Episode One, and Episode Two) - Alex Owens
Dark Matter Heart (Cor Griffin Bloodsuckers, #1) - Nathan Wrann
Deadly Kisses - Kerri Cuevas
Deja' Voodoo - Leslie Brown
Dreaming of Beauty - Kristen White
Forgotten - Fay Cunningham
The Game - Shane Scollins
The Glass Wall (Return of the Ancients, #1) - Madison Adler
Goddess Legacy (Goddess Series, #1) - M.W. Muse
Green (Life Force Trilogy, #1) - S. Briones Lim
The Keeper and the Rune Stone (The Black Ledge Series, #1) - Paige W. Pendleton
The Locket (The Locket, #1) - K.J. Bell
Lost (Lost & Found, #1) - Nadia Simonenko
Love is Darkness (Valerie Dearborn, #1) - Caroline Hanson
Love, Lies & Friends - Ellis Maron
Moonlit - Jadie Jones
Once Again (Sky Cove, #1) - Amy Durham
Only Love Survives - Renee Charles
Prank Wars - Stephanie Fowers
Roses and Black Glass: a Dark Cinderella Tale - Lani Lenore
SAVE - Ella Col
The Secret Diary of Adrian Cat - Stuart Macfarlane & Linda Macfarlane
The Seven Devils - Sara Danvers
Shine On - Allison Jewell
Sleepers (The Swarm Trilogy, #1) - Megg Jensen
The Survivors (The Survivors, #1) - Amanda Havard
Sweet Oblivion (Sweet, #1) - Bailey Ardisone
Veiled Eyes (Lake People, #1) - C.L. Bevill

I really need to stop getting so many books when I can't read them that fast... I think I hoard ebooks. But it's only because I don't want to pass over any gems! Or at least I'll just tell myself that. Yeah... Anyway, I also bought The Midnight Heir because I'm a sucker for Magnus Bane as well as Octavian's Undoing and Raksha.

Octavian's Undoing (Sons of Judgment, #1) - Airicka Phoenix
Raksha (Blood and Fire, #1) - Frankie Rose
The Midnight Heir (The Bane Chronicles, #4) - Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan

Noor:

The past few weeks have been oddly busy for me (I usually just bum around all day) and I've barely had a chance to sleep in my own bed, nevermind go out and buy books (I don't go crazy with ebooks like Kiersten does. I tend to go for physical copies), and as a result, my only purchases for the past two weeks have been The Midnight Heir, an eagerly awaited volume of the Bane Chronicles, and Isolation, a mini-book in the Partials sequence that I had to read before starting the next book.

The Midnight Heir (The Bane Chronicles, #4) - Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan
Partials (Partials Sequence #0.5) - Dan Wells

Amrutha:

Like Noor, my last few weeks have been unprecedentedly busy, so I haven't bought much (I'm also a physical copy kind of girl). Although, I'm also not a huge fan of buying books that I'll finish in a few hours and just put on my bookshelf (library kinda girl holla), I do succumb to the occasional impulsive Wegmans buy. I'd read a review of Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple in the Times and recognized it while scanning the shelves for a Danielle Steele novel to flip through while my mom shopped. My impulsive Wegmans buys are not always successful, but this one surely was.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette - Maria Semple

Also, Kiersten sent me a digital copy of Zoo by Tara Elizabeth and the first episode of the Debt Collector by Susan Kaye Quinn.

Zoo (The Enclosure Chronicles, #1) - Tara Elizabeth
Delirium (Debt Collector, #1) - Susan Kaye Quinn

Marlon:

Haha. Books. I've been out of the loop so no books for me. I've been busy reading and attempting to write. So that's why Slaughterhouse Five, Beautiful Darkness, and a whole mess of books are around me that I've had for a while and not read. In lieu of new books:

Here's a poem
About
The books that I haven't bought this week

With their uncracked spines on dustless shelves
Like a thousand planets stuffed in a supermarket aisle
While I'm in bed wasting another day in a heat wave
Half reading six books at once
And it's no excuse
But I'm sorry anyway.

~Swordfish
