Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great week. It was another uneventful one here, though, we learned that mom had NOT pulled a muscle. She broke a bone. The x-ray showed that it is healing on its own. Fingers crossed it keeps going in that direction so no additional surgery is necessary.

My two weeks of working from home has come to an end. Back to the grind. I had so much more time for reading and whatnot. I got through an extra book and three audiobooks. It was a good week. Of course, August is bringing the heat back for my commute. BOO! Hopefully, the heat won't affect the trains. I feel like saying that out loud is asking for trouble.

It was another rains-it-pours week. I had no less than 10 library holds come through. It's amazing how the library-hold space-time continuum works. The books on hold will have wait times that vary by weeks and months, yet, they all come through on the same day. I have three library books on the TBR this week, read 2 last week, and have 2 on deck for next week. I delayed a few, but there were some I really didn't want to sit on. It's all good since I only have 4 September review books to read.

I think I have mentioned that we go, every Friday (more or less), to this local Italian restaurant and eat with our neighbors. The owner had just returned from her vacation, and wow! She had me wanting to head to Montana. It was a neat dude ranch she stayed at. They went glamping, but the little cabins (tents?) looked like covered wagons. It was so neat.

Stacking the Shelves

Got some great ARCs and invites this week. I had my eye on The Second Chance Year, and there it was, Read Now. Obviously, the universe was telling me to download this book. It's been a while since I read something from Graves, and The Trail of Lost Hearts sounds really good. I am also leaning towards downloading Till There Was You. Sounds adorable!

Read Last Week

Last week was an OUTSTANDING week! Look at all those books! Look at all those stars! Love, Holly was my highest rated book. My goodness! The tears I shed. Stone never spares my heart with her stories, but she does repair it by the end.

White's sequel was a great follow up. She closed up one mystery while planting the seeds for the next one and creating a quite a love triangle. Starshine Cove was adorable. Such a fun and feel-good books. Riggs earned that extra half star during that last chapter. It was setting up the Pittsburgh Titians series, and Sawyer really hit me in the feels. Andrews delighted me with her latest holiday book, too.

I have not started Twisted Love, but I am almost halfway through Vacationland. This is quite a tangled web, and I am dying to see where it goes.

  1. I hope your mother's bone will keep healing correctly Sam! And I suspect that there is another library user who has the exact same taste as you and is hijacking all the books you want, releasing them at the same time LOL

    1. Same. I don't know if we can handle another surgery, and she is tired of not being on the go all the time.

  2. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about your mum! I hope she doesn't require extra surgery and recovers quickly. As we stopped getting WFH days in June, I totally get what a bummer it is. I hope the commutes to work as pain free as possible though! It looks like you had a great week overall though—seriously, all those stars for your reads! 😍 Amazing. I hope you have a great week ahead and enjoy all the books too, Sam!

    1. No more WFH at all or just for June? We still get our one day a week, and I am glad for it. I can some doctor's appointments in, my haircut. I only work until 3:30 pm. When I am home, I can still take care of stuff after work hours. It was a banner reading week. I was really happy with the book choices I made

  3. Oh no! A broken bone is not good news. I hope that your mom heals quickly! That cat video was so cute :) Too bad that you will have to commute again. You had a fantastic reading week! I hope that you have a great week, Sam!

    1. We can only hope. It's been tough (for everyone). I don't mind going to the office, I just wish we had more work from home days.

  4. What a great week you have had there. I am happy to see that you figured out what was happening with your mom. Hope she heals fast. I see that you loved that Sawyer Bennett, I really need to get back to that author. Looks like you are getting ready for the Christmas season with those wintery reads! Hope you enjoy your reading this week.

    1. I have mostly only read Bennett's hockey books, which I love, but I read a few others too. They were all good. She's an author I enjoy

  5. Ouch! Sorry about your mom's break and wishing a speedy recovery. LOL, yes, there is something about the vast library universe that makes all the holds come in at the same time!

    1. Thanks, Angela. I would love to know how those estimates for holds work because they are never right.

  6. I love working from home. It's hard to go back to the office! :) And that Montana ranch sounds fun. I could glamp lol.

One Of Us Is Back... I heard an initial lukewarm review, super curious

    1. Glamping is he only way I would go. I did that camping thing to get certified when I was a scout leader. No thank you. I don't mind the office, but you don't realize all the time consumed getting there, prepping food, getting ready to be in public -- it's a lot of time saved when I don't go to the office.

    2. Exactly. It's all the PREP. and travel, honestly. Much better at home. :)

I don't love camping. I like being outside, under the trees, the wood smoke smell... not so much having to trudge to the bathrooms in inclement weather, and if it rains...

    3. It's all good until the weather ruins it.

  7. I'm sorry to hear about your mom, Sam, but glad that it looks like it is healing well. That Montana glamping things sounds like a lot of run. I might be a bit old, but if I can find a friend that wants to go with me, I would definitely do that. I was just approved for Love Holly, so am happy to see you gave it 5 stars. Enjoy all your upcoming reads.

    1. I hope the bone continues to heal on its own. Nobody wants more surgery. You know, the woman was telling us that they met this couple and it's the third time they coordinated their trip to be there at the same time. The couple are almost 80. Seems to be fun for all. Can't wait to hear what you think about Holly

  8. "learned that mom had NOT pulled a muscle. She broke a bone."
😱 At least it's healing by itself! Your family isn't having any luck with bones and stuff lately...

"It's amazing how the library-hold space-time continuum works. The books on hold will have wait times that vary by weeks and months, yet, they all come through on the same day."
    😂 It's a good thing that you're a fast reader!

    1. I cannot read fast enough for my library holds. I had nothing come through for a week or two and then BAM! 12! I hate it! I get all my medical issues from my mother's side. Fingers crossed that bone continues to heal on its own.

  9. I've had the same thing happen to me with my holds this week. Several came through, and I still have a couple review copies to get through. Needless to say, there's lots of reading happening this week.

    1. It's great if you can keep up. I end up delaying some because I don't want to be greedy, and I hate keeping others from reading when I know I won't get to it for a while. I have no shortage of books to read, but it just drives me batty that all the holds come in at once

  10. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom breaking a bone. I hope she's on the mend soon. Wow, you had a pretty amazing reading week, which makes me extra happy since almost all of those titles are on my TBR.

    1. We can only hope. I do think mom is getting better. Moving around more on her own. That's a positive thing. Can't wait to see what you think of our books in common

  11. I'm sorry about your mom's broken bone, but I'm glad it's healing well. 10 LIBRARY HOLDS AT ONCE??? What are they trying to do to you??? Can you do the thing at your library where you can say you don't want them for another week or so? Mine has that option.

    1. I had another 4 holds come through today. It's insane!!! I did read three of the holds I checked out, so I don't feel as guilty. I did delay some, but others I snatched. I know I can get them read before the due dates.

  12. Glad to hear even though you mom ended up having a broken bone that it seems to be healing on its own! I love that you go to a local Italian restaurant every Friday! I had an Italian restaurant that I absolutely loved in Southern California. We went there just about every week and I have yet to find a match since the move.

My library holds seem to come all at once too! I had to press the "deliver later" button on a bunch because I had to finish some review books first.

So happy you enjoyed Prytania and Bright Lights, Big Christmas. I'm looking forward to reading Bright Lights!

Montana is beautiful! The dude ranch sounds fun!

    1. There was a LOT of deliver later going on, but they will all probably be ready at the same time too. LOL. I try to get my parents to support local business, and I am glad we started going there vs. the chain we used to go to every Friday. I have such affection for Andrews' holiday books. They always hit right for me

  13. Ack! That's terrible about the broken bone. Hope it continues to heal well. Library loans coming in all at once is a universal given - like losing socks in the dryer. lol Eventually I am going to start hitting up Sawyer Bennett's back list. You now how much I love the Pittsburgh Titans series. :)

    1. My mother is a mess. So far, so good though. I have six books out right now. I can't keep delaying. I will have them all read in under two weeks. As far as Bennett's backlist, I stand by all the hockey books. I read the Sugar books. They are a bit darker.
