What a fun return to Briarhaven! This story picks up about a year after the last book. Lyra had finally come into her magick which was unreliable, but she was determined to get it under control as the sisters continued to deal with the MacGregor curse.
All the things that endeared me to Briarhaven in the previous installment were still a delight. The sisters, the small town, the banter, the celebrations, the familiars, the magick - all still had a strong presence through the story, but we had the added fun of a reality show this time.
The Bewitched Bake-Off was a definite highlight for me. First of all, it was Christmas themed, so I was hooked right there, but we also got to witness some wild magical baking challenges. As if the demands of these challenges were not enough, Lyra and Rabbie had to accomplish them with Lyra's broken magick. Needless to say, this resulted in many hilarious and slapstick moments to enjoy.
And then, there was the romance. I am a fool for second-chance romances, so this was right up my alley. It was a bit frustrating that both Lyra and Rab were missing some vital details of the night that broke BOTH their hearts, but I will say, I enjoyed all the yearning and tension and mucked up magick that resulted in scenes that made me smile, sigh, and uncontrollably giggle.
Overall, this was another successful visit to Briarhaven packed with fun, festivities, family, food, and lots of love.

Absolutely adored celebrating my favorite season by reading this book during the dog days of summer. All the talk of apples, campfires, pumpkins, and corn mazes kept a smile on my face as I imagined the crisp scent of fall in the air. I actually didn't realize how "apple forward" this book was until I read a review in the Toronto Star, and I was tickled pink by all the hidden apples in the story.
I am a big fan of second chance romances and was rooting for this time to be the right time for Becca and Cort. Cort did a lot of growing up since high school. He was a business owner and a father, and he had time to change and grow since high school.
It was great to see Becca coming home. Her best friend and her family were wonderful and gave a lot of support to Becca while she was still adjusting to a world without her grandmother. But Becca was also dealing with feeling stuck. Being home was what she needed to figure out what she was going to do with her life, and I could be heard cheering her on.
Overall: I reveled in this wonderful tribute to fall. It was very Hallmarkie, warm, and cozy. This absolutely left me yearning for fall in all the best ways.
