Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sundays with Sam is a combination of Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

My Week in Review

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is doing well. It was a quiet week here. I actually drove to work on Tuesday. It was 17°F. I walked outside and nose hairs froze. It was too cold to wait outside and hope the train was on time. I realized how much I hate driving to work. I got home only 8 minutes earlier than when I take the train, but I did save $30.

They advertised this app in the parking deck. If you enroll, your license plate is scanned in and out and your card charged without you ever having to get out of your car or use a parking ticket. Well, I must have missed the part that talked about the service charge. It would cost me 75 cents every time I parked. That adds up, and I don't think it's worth it. That was over and done with quick.

I am still using up my PTO and had Wednesday off. It was a great, lazy day. It warmed up when the rain came in too. I love having a midweek day to reset.

Today is my mother's birthday. We were supposed to go out yesterday, but she was not feeling well. She is going out today with her friends, and we weren't invited. LOL! Like a teenager. They want to be with their friends not family.

Stacking the Shelves

Ooops, I did it again! So many freebies. I was thrilled to get approved for O'Leary's new release. I always enjoy her books. I got a few invites. I was surprised to see Katie Shepard genre jumping.

Read Last Week

I have been struggling getting my TBR completed, so I had lowered my books from 5 to 4. I was able to read all my planned books, so I was please. I was also thrilled that the Shalvis book was so good. I really enjoy her work, and I am loving the Colburn family. They are chaotic and wonderful and reading about them makes my face hurt from all the smiling I do.

I am continuing the Maple Hills series by Hannah Grace. I like the characters and am happy to learn more about Henry. I am loving It's Different This Time. Joss Richard is new to me, but she has me hooked on these two. June and Adam are getting a second chance here, and they were reunited under interesting circumstances. The story flashes back to the years they shared this brownstone in NYC and their time there in the present. I am itching to know what happened. Why is June so angry with Adam? I am fully intrigued and invested and cannot wait to get my answers.

  1. Happy birthday to your mom! I also hate driving to work. Sometimes it's more stressful than work. :)

    1. My part of Jersey is really congested too. I wish I could teleport.

LOL! That's brutal. And you have to experience that kind of weather often with your commutes...

"She is going out today with her friends, and we weren't invited. LOL! Like a teenager."
Ha! She deserves that, though. I wish I had friends for me to celebrate that way.

    1. It's going to be another cold one tomorrow. We had some snow which I am sure will freeze over night. I know I won't drive, so here's hoping I am not a Sam-cicle tomorrow. Because of the snow, the party was postponed to next week. Maybe the weather will cooperate.

  3. At least you didn't have to wait in the cold. But I get not liking to go to work with the car. I work in our capital city but live in the countryside so I never feel confident to drive in a big busy city!

    1. My job is not really stressful, but I hate showing up all stressed out from either train drama or driving. I like to start my day in a calm state. I would not like driving in a city. If I go to NYC, I take the train.

  4. It would be awful cold to wait in 17 degree weather! Yes, wind makes the cold so much worse! I hear the winters in Chicago are brutal because of that. I'm happy it's not windy here. Having a day off during the week is awesome. It would be nice to make it a regular thing. Haha about your mom and her birthday outing! I'm looking forward to that new O'Leary, too! You know I enjoy her books as well. They must've just unveiled the cover because when I last looked it still wasn't up yet. I'll probably wait to download it closer to the release date. Stay warm and safe, Sam!

    1. I want that 4 day workweek that I heard they were trying in the UK (Scotland, maybe?), and they didn't have to work extra hours. Awesome! The snow caused mom's outing to be canceled, but people dropped off lots of gifts. They did just reveal the cover last week. It's cute.

  5. So funny that you said your nose hairs froze because my husband said that just yesterday when we walked into church (I believe it was 0 degrees at the time). Hope your mom has a nice birthday celebration (without you?! LOL!).

    1. It's rough in your neck of the woods. I cannot get over how brutal the weather has been in Chicagoland and it's not even winter yet.
