Top Ten Tuesday - Twists on Classics

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is...

Twists on Classics!

Happy Tuesday! This week we are talking classics. As a romance reader, I have read a plethora of Jane Austen retellings, but I wanted to see what else I could find on my shelves. As I was searching, I found more variety of retellings with my young adult books. Many of these stories were inspired by folklore, mythology, fairytales, and some classic literature.
  1. Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett - Romeo and Juliet
  2. Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel - Peter Pan
  3. Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston - Beauty and the Beast
  4. The Only Thing Worse Than Me is You by Lily Anderson - Much Ado About Nothing
  5. Grendel's Guide to Love and War by A.E. Kaplan - Beowulf
  1. Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston - A Winter's Tale
  2. Ensnared by A.G. Howard - Alice in Wonderland
  3. The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand- A Christmas Carol
  4. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan - Odyssey
  5. Poison's Kiss by Breeana Shields- Ancient Indian folklore regarding visha kanya

    1. That was a book I sat on and regretted because it was so good. I must admit, Hand's books are always great.

  2. Um...as a rule, I don't like retellings, but my beloved Seanan McGuire has a series (alas, a truncated one, because the publisher lost interest) called Indexing, where fairy tales narratives become reality...often in a dark way, of course 😅. But it's fun! I might try Holly Chase one day.

    1. Well, the original German fairy tales were told to terrify kids, so keeping it dark isn't too out of line there.

  3. I like a good Beauty and the Beast retelling at times.
