Can't-Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for:
Break the Fall
Jennifer Iacopelli
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Date: February 18, 2020
Goodreads
"This book makes you understand exactly what it is like to compete as a woman at the highest level in sport, and it is exhilarating and satisfying indeed." --Holly Sorensen, Television Creator/Showrunner, Make it or Break It, Step Up

Audrey Lee is going to the Olympics.

A year ago, she could barely do a push up as she recovered from a spine surgery, one that could have paralyzed her. And now? She's made the United States' gymnastics team with her best friend, Emma, just like they both dreamed about since they were kids. She's on top of the world.

The pressure for perfection is higher than ever when horrifying news rips the team apart. Audrey is desperate to advocate for her teammate who has been hurt by the one person they trusted most--but not all the gymnasts are as supportive.

With the team on the verge of collapse, the one bright spot in training is Leo, her new coach's ridiculously cute son. And while Audrey probably (okay, definitely) shouldn't date him until after the games, would it really be the end of the world?

Balancing the tenuous relationship between her teammates with unparalleled expectations, Audrey doesn't need any more distractions. No matter what it takes, she's not going to let anyone bring them down. But with painful revelations, incredible odds, and the very real possibility of falling at every turn, will Audrey's determination be enough?
Why I want to read this book

I never shy away from a book featuring elite athletes. I am always so intrigued by them, what drives them and what makes them tick. As if being on the world stage is not enough pressure, teens at this level also have to deal with the ins and outs of being a teen. I am really looking forward to Audrey's story, hearing about how she came back from what could have been a career ending surgery, hearing about her teammate's trouble, and getting to watch her navigate a romance.

The Sound of Us
Julie Hammerle
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Entangled: Teen
Release Date: June 7, 2016
Goodreads
Kiki Nichols might not survive music camp.

She’s put her TV-loving, nerdy self aside for one summer to prove she’s got what it takes: she can be cool enough to make friends, she can earn that music scholarship, and she can get into Krause University’s music program.

Except camp has rigid conduct rules—which means her thrilling late-night jam session with the hot drummer can’t happen again, even though they love all the same TV shows, and fifteen minutes making music with him meant more than every aria she’s ever sung.

But when someone starts snitching on rule breakers and getting them kicked out, music camp turns into survival of the fittest. If Kiki’s going to get that scholarship, her chance to make true friends—and her chance with the drummer guy—might cost her the future she wants more than anything.
Why I want to read this book

I have read three other books by Hammerle (with Knocked-Up Cinderella being my favorite), and that made it easy for me to one-click this book, when I came across it. I love creative people and getting to watch them make their magic. Therefore, the whole music camp thing caught my interest. I am also curious about the someone, who is out to eliminate the competition. The Sound of Us seems to contain great elements, which I hope are combined in a winning way.

What are you waiting on?

    1. I think I love to read about things and places I have never experienced, and I never got to go to camp, though I begged throughout my childhood.

  2. I've never been to camp, so I'm always slightly curious about books set in them. I hope you enjoy these when you get to them!

    1. Same. I think that's why I enjoy camp books so much. I started the book this morning, and it's interesting the way the author seems to be working in a toxic former-friendship and the damage it's done to the MC

  10. The Sound of Us sounds like a book I'd really enjoy as well Sam! I love books with narratives that surround music, as long as its not too technical then I tend to get a little lost in the jargon. Will definitely be checking these out, great picks this week!

    1. I started Sound of Us this morning, and it's an opera training program, which is something different for me. I sort of like, when the author's get a little technical. Usually they give me enough to understand or at least get the gist of it, but other times, they inspire me to google more

  13. I think that these both sound really good. I have spent a lot more time with music teen than those that play sports but I love books that feature young adults that are passionate about whatever their thing is. I can't wait to hear what you think of these!

  15. Two great picks this week. I love books that feature athletes, especially ones that have overcome adversity to achieve their dreams.

    1. I will always root for someone, who fights to overcome something, no matter what the scenario. How can I not want them not to succeed?
